Foreign good morning we’re back for another stream there today I’ve been a little bit busy this week so I haven’t really had much of a chance to pay attention to uh to my little dwarves here so anyway let’s fade in and we’ll get started I’m not sure how long I’m gonna Be on today but um we’ll try for at least two hours here so a quick tour before I get started this is my fort this is the top layer uh just gradually building it up there and putting down the rest of the floor some water sources uh lever to keep Things closed in then we go down there’s an elk bird hanging out for some reason not really sure why hey scary hen all right where are we at here just lost my window all right so we got an elk Bird right here we’ll go down a level this was my Initial base so we have to trade Depot which will eventually be moved up um we’ll go down a few levels we have our little Plum palette farm and our still is still up here we’ll just shoot right down to the deepest step we’ll see we found some magma And we’ll get over to where my main base is being built so underneath here we’ve got what are we a stone worker we got a little Stone stockpile got a craftworks workshop a wood stock pile there’s our Carpenter we’ve got a little dormitory set up here and definitely not enough Beds we’ll probably create another one before we start working on the rooms uh down here we have our magma forges so we have a magma Forge a magma smelter we have our Jewelers Workshop who is cutting gems and finally a mechanic all right let’s get back up to the top and unpause I don’t really have any Rhyme or Reason for my base layout 12 is this going to be up here again I can’t remember I’ll come back to that I want to build a butcher’s shop maybe that’s where I’ll put it yeah we’ll go for that butcher shop no there’s not enough room not enough room there All right we’ll make this our coffee and we’re Crypt or whatever you want to call I’m pretty sure I got some burial containers diorite and I gotta set that and use closest material and we’ll set the tombs down except and do we have any doors left around I think we do boom Thank you all right so I’m gonna make this an even bigger dormitory all right come on and dig dig I believe we got lots of beds still paint the stone a little bit bigger we’ll also drop some more doors there down just saw a warning pop up we’ll Worry about that in a second okay good they’re being put to rest that’s what we want so we won’t be haunted we do not want to be haunted it is a very annoying thing so this entire room right here I’m going to put a butcher shop uh Tanner I guess I’ll probably drop my kitchen in here as well and we’re also going to move um are still downstairs and probably this little purple area right here I think that’ll be a perfect spot to have another plump helmet firm I want to get basically everything on one level oh what do we got here All right we’ll start on that Guild Hall in a minute and like I said we’re going to drop a butcher shop in here we’re gonna drop what else did I say we’ll see a Tanner I guess would be good and I guess we’ll put our kitchen in here too put a door We don’t have a door all right and then we’ll just put a very simple stockpile man why did they stop doing I’ll come back and put the stock and we did have a turtle Massacre if you notice a lot of turtles laying around I’m not sure why they’re not bending them but Such is life all right stoneworker’s still doing craft dwarf Carpenter’s doing okay oh yeah let’s see how my metal bar stockpiles are going horse armor weapon we got a few things there we got enough guys we can make another military too and I was just remembering why nobody Seems to be doing anything and it’s this big construction up here foreign everyone got some meat oh and I just noticed we got no drinks because we got no plants I’m assuming they’re eating them I’ll just do all plump helmets all the time well except for that now we’ll go Back to plump Donuts foreign I wish they do this in a way that they did like the middle section first because I feel like it’d be a lot more efficient for him running around but it is what it is foreign yeah I forgot favorites do you play any other rts’s there as well Yeah ergonomics there weird like that eh honestly I don’t know how I haven’t developed some kind of problem with my back or neck just uh my posture is terrible I’m a sloucher and I’ve been slouching for literally 25 years in a chair so oh DotA never actually played that game It’s uh what it start as a Starcraft mod or something right all right so let me see what I’m doing we got that built so they must be done up top pretty much let’s find out oh yeah there we go and those elk Birds just like skulking around They haven’t been doing anything so I’m not going to kill them as yet all right I’m just gonna wait till this is done and then we’ll start back down in the depths I got lots of food but I am out of drink so that that’s something I’m going to Take care of in the immediate so immediately let’s go down to my drink layer do we have yep make that a high priority too Oh yes I love it when a construction is complete actually that that should be a fortification fortification man oh man Warcraft 3 mod okay yeah no I haven’t played League that’s funny I didn’t really get into a lot of those games I did play like I said earlier warcrafts and stuff and age Empire so I don’t know why I never got into any of them all right so right there we’ll build another wall I just want to finish off making this look a little bit Purdy hmm nice animal inaccessible is that because he’s been slotted all right we got our drinks coming back This is pretty much done all right and some smooth ends happening we like smoothing smooth rooms well just make everybody sleep in one room too because that’s how we roll do we have does got some dough excellent foreign That out I know dwarves have a habit of falling into things I think they’re clumsy foreign all right I’m gonna take a quick break to top up my coffee actually let me I’m gonna finish this little area off here first wow they complete that pretty quick foreign I forgot about these guys but now that we have like a relatively big Workforce that we got 45 dwarfs which is awesome um what we’re gonna do is put our Squad back in this little room right here and that should anything that’s in grassy grass into our Fortress should be met by Them and in turn be smashed by them so I’m just trying to figure out I should have wrote down what I wanted to accomplish this stream so let’s put another cheer and if we have more tables we’ll drop them into and we should have more tables because I’ve had buddy constantly constructing them And we do good Furniture So if you’re just wondering why this looks different right here I’ve got a smooth order laid down so that’s they smooth the walls where they can if it’s smooth full stone and the floors dwarves like it you would like it to trust me pyrite nice uh another hour potentially I’m actually waiting for a phone call there so it might stop I am gonna be back tomorrow at a regular time like early in the morning I had some this time Randall tells you so a lot of the stuff like that today it’s getting done which is awesome that uh yeah I was like 30 there right Oh nice yeah okay and I want to put my archers up here I think hmm okay let me put a ramp up first we’ll go around bramp because I believe we need to have um thank you foreign we still look sealed in here that’s good Thank you Foreign Yeah I try to get right to the bottom okay so we got the squads I should probably uh once those ramps are built they build that ramp yep okay you should probably put a roof over these guys heads here and once again another massive construction here That’s true lately it’s been really deep before I find my quote-unquote perfect spot what’s that there vomit oh troll blood nice and I’m thinking I hope that doesn’t mean it’s gonna crash there I hate when that happens and spear honestly I don’t care a lot of the times about whether they’re competent with Something I’ll check that out in a second so I’m just putting another Squad right here to catch anybody that comes in all right let’s see what we got Fisheries Guild I don’t even have any goddamn fish man I’m running low on drinks again all right so I think I’m gonna move my Stell downstairs or have a second one hmm I’m gonna put it right there farming and still that’s true why about the training let’s make a barrel stockpile right here so oh yeah I forgot about this spot foreign I have and I can’t remember how I resolved it I think the last time I ran into that it was with uh classic and I ended up forcing it with a dwarf therapist somehow it could be a bug though so this is and what do I have for armor dresses are armor I don’t think so what about weapons what about birds I got lots of iron okay iron cap did I do Gauntlet no Ah that’s not back again armor iron grapes armor iron Helm okay so we’ll get some armor going oh I love it looks so nice in there all right uh we gotta put a chair do some beds hmm thank you foreign my drinks ah drakar it is called Dwarf Fortress and it’s the steam Edition oh yeah smooth it out there boys smooth it out we want it smooth as a baby’s bottom smooth it out guys I haven’t played The Escapist but um Terraria is not a bad description for this game actually If you look at it that this is top down versus uh side view or whatever you call it do kind of the same things you dig build tell your dwarves to do things act like God all right so we got ah gotta smooth this out all right so we got a forgotten Beast An Uninvited Guest where’s that guy how close is he to me let’s just follow him for a minute and see where he’s going whoa okay all right let’s see what happens we’ll zoom in oh we’re gonna see what happens here everything just kind of slowed to a crawl I think it’s because they said everything yeah I think it might be everything’s on fire and if you notice oh all right we’ll find out anyway I don’t know where my squads are they might not even be able to get up I don’t know if uh staircases they’re fireproof I can’t Remember something to oh man wow yeah foreign dog problem and uh the Elks there so there’s some positives I guess to being destroyed yeah there goes the cat no dead why are these guys hanging out there G like let’s get off this floor for one second See what’s happening down in our uh Fortress level see things are gone like crazy unresponsive and that that generally happens when a ton of things are on fire I don’t have any sort of hospitals the problem that was my next thing I was going to set up I just wanna it’s frail so I think if we uh if we can actually get to kill it I don’t know what happens if that’ll help any uh the the classic version is the steam version they’re actually charging for but in my opinion it’s worth it wait to see when it goes On sale if you want to do and buy it just a lot better all around in interface oh my God yeah like this is I’ve only ever seen it this bad one time before and it was for essentially the same thing my entire Overworld had gotten set on fire and Basically I weighed it and it went back to normal I don’t know how long I’m gonna wait here today is it 35 bucks Canadian there you know I don’t it’s not a bad price considering how much gameplay I’ve gotten out of this over the years foreign guys I think I’m gonna call the stream there I have no idea like they’re not doing that’s scary yet like basically I can’t do all right now it’s like ground to a halt basically I don’t want the crash so I’m going to let it sit here but I’m not going to Subject you out to this so I’m gonna call the stream there uh schedule one again for tomorrow morning I’ll let this run anyway and uh we’ll see what happens like I said that’s the only really thing I can think right now is uh basically an FBS death from the fire I just turned on multi-thry and see if that would make a difference again that probably makes no sense but I did it anyway the annoying thing is that this interface seems to work yeah it is really unfortunate oh hold on here hold on yeah see like I don’t know if you can hear me hit my keyboard it’s nothing’s working yeah anyway guys listen thanks for the chat there this Dwarf Fortress (officially called Slaves to Armok: God of Blood Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress) is a construction and management simulation and roguelike indie video game created by Bay 12 Games. Available as freeware and in development since 2002, its first alpha version was released in 2006 and received attention for being a two-member project surviving solely on donations. The primary game mode is set in a procedurally generated fantasy world in which the player indirectly controls a group of dwarves, and attempts to construct a successful and wealthy fortress. Critics praised its complex and emergent gameplay but had mixed reactions to its difficulty. The game influenced Minecraft, Rimworld, and others, and was selected among other games to be featured in the Museum of Modern Art to show the history of video gaming in 2012.
The game has text-based graphics (using the CP437 character set) and is open-ended with no main objectives. Before playing, the player has to set in motion a process which generates a fantasy world with continents, oceans, and islands, produced via generative geology and hydrogeology, meteorology, and biogeography, and then fully simulates the evolution of all civilizations down to the lives of their inhabitants in order to yield a coherent world with internally consistent lore and history. The main game mode, Dwarf Fortress mode, is a colony management game that starts with selecting a suitable site from the generated world, establishing a successful colony or fortress, combating threats like goblin invasions, monster sieges, or undead hordes, generating economic wealth and taking care of the dwarves. Each creature, from animal to dwarf, is modeled down to its body parts, bodily fluids, organs, bones, teeth, hair, and tissues (which, depending on the creature, can be made of more unusual fantastic materials such as metal or stone, or even mist, fire, or moss) each of which can be injured or lost. Each creature has a discrete mind and individual personality, including likes and dislikes, and possesses specific trainable or innate skills in various labors and abilities, as well as short and long term memories to facilitate all this, as well as influencing its current emotional state. The second main game mode, Adventurer mode, is a turn-based, open-ended, open world roguelike where the player starts off as a player made adventurer in the world and is free to explore, complete quests, or visit old abandoned fortresses. The combat system in both modes is anatomically detailed with combat logs describing events like organs getting pierced, fat getting bruised and limbs getting severed. Creatures have no hit points, and instead death occurs as a result of the impairment or disruption of vital functions.
Prior to Dwarf Fortress, Tarn Adams was working on a project called Slaves to Armok: God of Blood which was a role-playing game. By 2004, Adams decided to shift from the original Armok to Dwarf Fortress after the former became difficult to maintain. Adams calls it his life’s work and said in 2011 that version 1.0 will not be ready for at least another 20 years, and even after that he would continue to work on it. The game has a cult following and an active online community. As there are no win conditions, every fortress or adventurer that isn’t “retired”, no matter how successful, is usually destroyed or defeated somehow. This prompted the community motto: “Losing is Fun!”
