Hello everyone my name is pixel riffs and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide I hope you guys are having a good day today the sun is going down but my ideas are starting to form today we’re going to do a little bit more work in this marketplace area and We’re gonna make this place actually kind of pop yeah we’re going to have this little row of market stalls built out we’re probably going to start a little bit on the other shops in here as well but I really want to get the city center worked on a little bit we’ve had A lot of action in the last few episodes we’ve had the weather and the Guardian farm and everything like that I feel like today we need to get back to our building games so so let’s do some of that we’re going to need a few different Resources for around here I want to pick out some different wood types to maybe set these market stalls apart because the foundations of these are mostly going to be wood so we’re probably gonna be working with oak instead of the dark oak we’ve got here maybe even mix in a Bit of jungle wood maybe something a little bit more exotic like that we need a different wool type for each of the canopies for these market stalls but I’m gonna put together one barely fairly basic example starting with this one here I think so that we can have a Baseline to work from so that we can figure out a design for the market stalls that we can just kind of repeat and then iterate on we can kind of come up with more variations for it as we go so I’m gonna go and grab some resources And let’s get right to it now you’ll find market stalls popping up in all kinds of people’s Minecraft towns and that is because they’re relatively easy to make all you need to do is set up a kind of squarish stall like the one we’re about to assemble here probably Put some sort of counter at the front here and then usually you’ll have posts on all four corners maybe with fences atop those and that’s where you can start to raise up the fences to have a canopy over the top and that you’ll need some wool for the canopy but that’s Always pretty easy to acquire in the early game and this just adds a pop of color to the area it allows things to come to life just a little bit and there’s a lot of different variation in how you can do market stalls if you want To but I think we’re probably gonna have these sort of three blocks high with the fences like so typically you’ll find bees built with these kind of striped wool canopies so we’re gonna start this one in red we’re gonna do our red and white though it’s kind of the theme for this Area we’re gonna keep using these two colors in combination like this and it’s going to be nice and bright I think we’ll probably do a combination of colors with white and some other kind of color so we could do a blue and white one next door for example and that’s Coming together quite nicely it is starting to nudge up against the room that we’ve reserved for the other market stalls to either side but chances are we can either incorporate that into the roof of the adjoining market stalls or we can just kind of shuffle them around A little bit to make a little bit more room now I’ve made a couple of levers and one things I like to do for details in these market stalls is put levers on the corners like that and have them kind of facing in and this was a little bit a Little bit better to do when they didn’t have the redstone particles but maybe if we place it that way around there we go so it kind of looks like there are ropes coming through here and these are fastenings of some kind the lever actually rests against that block like That and if you place it a certain way around then you don’t have to worry about the red stone particles showing so we’ll build a few of those craft a few of those and put them at each of the corners to look like they are kind of supporting the the fences here so They’re kind of like all strapped in with that another thing I’d like to do considering we have spruce fences down there is add these spruce buttons into the top here to make it look like the pole sort of juts through the top of the canopy over the top of this the awning Of the market store and I like that a lot it is starting to intrude on the space of this little spot up here as well so maybe we will add in some more stone slabs here and there to kind of separate this area the walkway out from The roofs of these stalls because we wouldn’t want people just kind of jumping up on here and although maybe maybe they could be maybe they could make their escape through the city that way if they just robbed one of the shops up here or something like that now Inside the stall of course the shop keeper would want to keep his stall separate from the ones next door so we can add in a similar cut counter around the outside here and at the back here maybe we could have some of his wares so we’ll have at least a crafting table Back here as though to represent a crate of some kind or maybe the guy is crafting stuff we could add in a couple of chests and that kind of stuff around here at the back and we can even move a villager into this space if we want to In the fullness of time and kind of populate it with a villager of course that does rely on us make zombie proof just in case Dom bees come out at night although with this area a little bit better lit up that wouldn’t be as much of a problem I might even put Some trapdoors around the outside of this as well they’re not really attached to the fence but they look like they could be dangling down from the canopy a little bit and it just helps to add that little bit of extra dimension to this speaking of zombie threats though the Fact that this is no longer exposed to the sky it means that it’s not gonna be getting sky at light as much and we will need to light it up in terms of block light in here so for the time being I’m probably just gonna put a torch here at The back and that will allow it to be lit up a little bit but we might think about lighting we might end up putting a light underneath this slab down here although that might be blocked by the slab above it but we might want to put One of our piston lights in there so if we can take advantage of the piston transparency like we have done over here because as you can see the one I installed in the episode about hidden lighting is still down there but that’s already adding so much life to this and This is a really basic design for a market stall as well this is the kind of thing that you will see popping up all over the place I reckon we can add a little bit more character to this as we go so let’s grab a few blocks that are a Little bit more detailed bookshelves all right now we’re talking now it looks like this guy has something to sell because he’s got some bookshelves at the back here meaning that there are colorful things back here but you know they don’t necessarily have to be books in the context of this market still they Could be other things just stashed away on the shelves maybe this guy could sell potions or something like that in which case we could maybe have a brewing stand or two around here as well that sounds like a good idea could be selling soft drinks this could be like a refreshment Stand out here in the city especially if people are toiling away in the ravine over there under the hot Sun they could probably be in need of a refreshment or two so in that case why don’t we add maybe a sea pickle and a flower pot on The top here as mugs because that could look like a little glass of some kind it could be a tall glass of green juice and this could be I don’t know some kind of like more root beer style liquid or something like that we could throw Things in there like that we could also if we’ve got the crafting table over here craft up a couple of item frames and put potions in those to make it look like he’s got a few crates full of stuff stashed around here I might even add in a central pole kind of support This entire thing and making it feel like the canopy is supported in the middle there instead of having it sag down at all perhaps we’ll even throw a cobblestone wall down there to make that look a little bit more supported there we go and that’s already added a little Bit more dimension to this place made it feel I don’t know a little bit more 3d I guess because you’re gonna be able to walk around this central pole here if you’re like manning the bar I guess yeah not bad not bad I quite like that my Inventory is getting a little bit full so I’m gonna grab one of my special key boxes from in here and put in some of the stuff we’re building with because I will probably come back to a few of these items a little bit later on so We’ll stash them away for the time being probably don’t either rotten flesh in the string and everything but yeah I think that should do for the moment now up here I’ve actually saved each of the brewing stands that I’ve got from the end cities I’ve raided some of these i Raided on a live stream so if you didn’t if you missed that you can head over to my vo DS channel and catch that stream we did it at the end of one of the Guardian farm prep streams I think but either way we have a few brewing stands That we can put over there which give us a few healing potions from those cities as well so we can always add those into this market store and then this guy will look like he’s selling something to drink alright that’s the stuff this place is coming together now and it’s actually Worth noting that the brewing stand bottles inside of there actually corresponds to the different places that the bottle appears on the brewing stands so in this case we probably want these bottles to be facing inwards so the people on the neighboring stalls don’t accidentally like you know reach over And swipe one of those so it’s kind of cool that you can position those differently to have them facing inwards towards this little stall but okay yeah maybe the bookshelves at the back are actually providing him with potion ingredients or maybe he has to look up a Couple of recipes I think maybe we could even found a couple of sprue slabs in here as little floorboards sort of things for him to walk on because even if these stalls are kind of permanent then he’s probably gonna put down some boards to prevent some of the grass down Here from getting too muddy so yeah that’s that’s not too bad either and maybe we’ll put a mushroom or something in that flowerpot at the back because that feels like an appropriately potion II ingredient maybe one of these blue orchids because if he’s been collecting potion ingredients he’s Probably been out to the swamp right so yeah I think a Blue Orchid would look really great it’ll kind of contrast with the white and of the canopy here yeah not bad I yeah I like that I think that’s nice at the back there gives it a Little bit of interest maybe it’s a plant that he’s just kind of tending to its adding so much character to the area already now let’s figure out what the neighboring market stalls are going to be selling because I don’t want any of these guys to be trading armor or tools Or anything like that because the blacksmith’s guild here is clearly not going to be cool with anybody trading that kind of stuff in their backyard if anybody wants any of the important stuff they go to the blacksmith’s guild so these places are probably going to be trading things like I guess maybe die And stuff like that like the small stuff basically little little drinks and food and things like that obviously like I said we’re gonna have a bakery over here maybe one of these could be a flower stand maybe they’ve sold heat and orchid back there to the guy who runs the drink Stand maybe they’ve traded that to him yeah we could have a flower stand in here I think that seems like a fun idea so we’ll set this one up to be a little bit different from the next door one but the canopy of this one can be a little Bit brighter as well maybe we’ll go with something other than white this time and we’ll break down some of these jungle logs and use jungle fences instead of spruce fences so the whole thing can feel a little bit more cohesive that way I’ll break out some of this other spruce Wood to make more sticks and we should be able to make ourselves a whole bunch of jungle fences maybe for them we can go with a kind of light blue and a yellow theme I think that’ll be good and I’ve just made some we’ll have spider string instead of worrying about dyeing The sheep even though dyeing the sheep is probably going to be a good idea in the long run we don’t need a huge amount of this stuff right now so I’m not gonna waste the die right away let’s have blue yeah that’s her blue and yellow blue and yellow should go quite Well together on top of this so let’s have the yellow one start and then the blue one take over for that second stripe down the middle there we go they’re getting a little bit pushy they’re kind of jostling for space a little bit there but I like that we can Probably put up some shelves of some kind maybe using spruce trapdoors back here and then we can sit the flowerpots on those and they’re gonna have lots of flowers available on display we are gonna need to open we need to make some actual trapdoors there We go we are going to need to make a few more flower pots which probably means a trip out to the swamp for more clay because I think I have out of clay a little while ago plenty of clay out there in the swamp though and we’re not collecting enough right now That we need to trouble our new blacksmith super smelter to smelt some of this for us and however only got my silk touch shovel on me right now so I would actually need to go out there with a different shovel if I wanted to grab More of that because of the silt I shall just harvest it as clay blocks but I don’t think I had any other bricks anywhere stashed in here I think the only ones I have are already made up into brick blocks but in the meantime let’s grab a few flowers we can Obviously grab some oxide daisies and stuff the two high flowers won’t fit in pots so we can probably leave those out of the equation for the minute and just grab a few other things maybe some cacti maybe even saplings as well because they look quite nice as little bonsai trees And now we can fill this entire store up with flowerpots oh this place is gonna look great now let’s see we can put a couple of saplings here at the front they’re not gonna be like the prettiest things to put on display but we’ll put them around here let’s add in the azure Blue it there and oxide Daisy there we probably want to space them out a little bit just so we’re not it’s not feeling like tea repetitive and all kind of clumped together we can have a cactus there let’s go out in search of oak there’s a couple of red flowers growing Up around the place as well we can probably grab a couple of those if we can’t find anything else we’ve got poppies we’ve got tulips I quite like the tulips actually I think they look quite good I kind of wish you could put them together in a bunch in the flower Pot but that’s really not too bad at all now I think we probably need some sort of like I guess kind of cash register looking thing here so how about we make ourselves some cobblestone stairs and we use that as a cash register here at the Front we’ve also got this kind of site hatch with a trapdoor that you can get out there although be careful you don’t want to burn your feet on the magma blocks but like the stall next door it might also be nice to have a little bit Of support here in this fence post and that doesn’t really hamper the view of the merchandise that’s not terrible we could probably throw in a couple more flower pots here and there if we want it to and we’ve got a white tulip hiding inside here that’s gonna be there at the Front nice not too bad not too shabby we could even put some of the too high flowers just placed around in in the in the spaces where there are grass blocks because they’ll grow there quite nicely but those two market stalls are looking pretty good there we go a Few more tweaks and touches a couple of item frames here and there I’ve actually squeezed in a rosebush there at the back and moved that tulip forward a little bit and we’ve got a peony on the cash register here in case you didn’t know this was a florist already it’s looking That pretty nice now let’s move on to these next few market stalls I think at least one of these is going to have to sell fish purely because I have so much of it from the guardian farm now that I really don’t know what to do with it all So I think we’re probably gonna have a fish monger of sorts here in the middle and maybe maybe we could even put some ice in here because I feel like if you’re selling fish out here and if it’s gonna be a hot day outside then you probably aren’t gonna be too popular Unless you manage to put your fish on ice but I think white and lapis blue seems like the ideal sort of color scheme for a fish salesman so that should do we can probably make a a little bit more wool if we wanted to but Yeah it feels to me like this guy could be selling his wares on a kind of platform made out of packed ice and blue ice I grabbed a little bit of both from my stores as well as a few more firework rockets because I’m going back and forth Constantly in this episode and I need to refresh my supply of fireworks every now and again now we’ll probably drop that down back here and that merge is quite nicely with the stall next door so that’s not too bad is it now let’s say this guy has his counter At the back here with some blue ice impact ice well ho there we go let’s put that out in the open the best thing about this is we can put light sources around this and it’s not going to melt so that shouldn’t be too much for a Problem if we want to light this area up in fact I’ll probably pop a torch down there to begin with but the fish you’re going to end up being in item frames which isn’t gonna look all that great but you know the other thing we can do Is just have some fish tossed around like this and they’re eventually going to de-spawn so it’s not going to look all that great either way but I think we can make it work we could probably have a couple of chests down here let’s make a couple of those out of spruce wood and We could even fill the chest part way with ice to complete the illusion if you were to look in the chest you would see a bunch of fish just resting down on ice so how about that will put these Cod in there I mean these are all cooked So it’s not gonna make much of a difference anyway but the fact that we’ve got the ice kind of piled up in here like that yeah it kind of kind of gives the impression that there’s this fish being being kept in here preserved a little bit and if we put an item frame Down flat on the floor like so then yeah maybe we could have the occasional fish just kind of resting on there like that a variety of fish would look good here too so we can add in some some salmon and stuff around maybe even lay a couple Of them out as though they are drying to make kind of a jerky sort of thing perhaps we could do something like that I tell you what to make a good drying rack actually if we put some trap doors kind of on the outside of the stall like That we could attach item frames to the sides here and that had double up as a nice little display it would also kind of create a partition so that if this guy wasn’t too popular with his neighbors then he could just ignore them let’s pop that like that yeah perfect That looks good I’ll need a couple more item frames I keep having to go back and get some leather but thankfully I’ve brought enough with me this time yeah there we go that’s not too bad that’s not too shabby I’m wondering if we can get like yeah a nice sort of seaside Lookin painting there wouldn’t be too bad either and I’ve got another item frame stashed in here so that we could maybe have an empty space on the drying rack or maybe even put one of the fish out on the counter for people to sample if they dare maybe something like that There isn’t a huge amount else we could put around here to my reckoning but I don’t know we’ll think of a couple of other ideas we could think of something maybe if we put some iron bars back here we could sort of imply that he’s got Like Nets hung up around it is that something I mean it’s not nothing I think I think the head could actually look pretty good yeah I don’t think of this quite enough room to get the net idea across with those iron bars but it looks better than nothing I was thinking About doing that with cobwebs but then it would just look like cobwebs to me and nobody really wants to go to a cobweb II fish still do they look like the place hasn’t been touched in years I think maybe if we could we fit a couple more paintings around the outside here Because I quite like that painting at the back I want to do more stuff like that and then maybe if we throw in a couple more of those here and there does at least add a little bit of color and a little bit of life to the place And maybe these are pictures that the fisherman has taken while he’s been off on his travels or something like that I don’t know we can come up with some kind of lore excuse for it or we can just move on color scheme for the last one I’m thinking purple and gray just to Change things up a bit and to inject something in here that we don’t have already which is that really nice kind of dark purple color and I think we’ll start that here yeah that’s not too bad this one’s got to be kind of a corner stall just because of the paths Traveling around here but that’s gonna even things out quite nicely I reckon in fact I might even have this one come down a block shorter than the others because that will kind of it’ll give it a slightly different vibe to these and it’ll allow us to kind of fit the canopy Of the shop underneath here so yeah it’s that gonna feel too low if we have blocks there at the front maybe we could do something with carpets because carpets can be placed on top of string and we don’t have like wool slabs or anything like that but we have wool Things that aren’t a full block you know what yeah I’ll allow it I think it looks pretty good I think it’s it’s nice to have a shorter one on the corner here it kind of means that it’s not super high when you come out through here and it’s gonna Be selling books this one actually because I broke a bookshelf earlier without using silk touch and I just had a bunch of books in my inventory so I thought hey why not bookstores are a thing that happened out in the world so why not have it this particular stall Selling a few books to the people gotta buy a literature as you’re wandering through the city streets get a bit of culture on your way past I quite like that and I quite like this little row of market stalls in general I think that turned out pretty well we’ve got a nice Variety of stuff going on here it feels like the place is alive we’re cramming tons of detail into tiny spaces just by using little tricks like thee of the item frames being everywhere kind of trapdoors and flowerpots and all of these like sub block details that’s really the key to building stuff like This and making the place feel a little bit more alive is to stop working on the level of big blocks and start thinking about the items and entities and different kind of things that you can place in the game that are smaller than the area of a block and that really are Gonna make the place feel a lot more detailed and alive well this has been a bit of a different episode I keep saying that every time I say that these are different episodes of course they are I’m trying to cover a whole range of topics here so I hope you guys have Enjoyed a little bit more of a detail building focused episode that was kind of the goal with this and I feel like I’ve rushed through a little bit but I feel like we have learned something along the way I hope you guys have it if You did don’t forget to leave a like on the episode if you enjoyed it subscribe if you want to see more and I’ll see you guys soon take care bye for now Video Information
