Hello buddy came here today with a quick build tutorial type video and today well as you’ve seen from the title this sign and most likely the thumbnail I’m gonna teach you guys how to build rock walls cliff faces whatever you want to call it this was highly requested among the Things that were suggested for me to do a tutorial on and I know people have asked for this in the past so I figured this is how we would start this out so as you can see I’ve kind of saw this area I believe it’s a 32 by 16 block Little plot here and I’ve got our main selection of blocks here that we’re gonna use I am playing in 1.14 not 1.15 mainly because well shaders and I like building with shaders cuz shaders look awesome anyway so I guess this will probably a mixture of light tips and Tricks on how to build the thing so when building a rock wall I don’t know it’s kind of hard to explain how exactly you do I don’t even think I know exactly how it works but one of the easiest ways to start so if you are say working on a Flat area like this or you have I don’t know a K like an area you want to build up to be a cliff like I do in my worlds I build synthetic cliffs all over the place an easy way to do that or to start Off is to figure out how tall the cliff is going to be so say we want ours to get up to this point here and this is gonna be our frame of reference so if we just build something like this along now it doesn’t have to be this exact width And I don’t think it will be but this this here gives us like a like a target to shoot for so once we’ve got our height we aim for I mean it could be as tall as that or you know 150 blocks in the sky I wouldn’t suggest doing that Cliff that talk because that’s gonna be a lot of stone also this is entirely doable and survival it creative just makes it a bit faster because you can kind of fly back and check them what you’re doing much easier anyway so we’re gonna kind of start off here just by Kind of coming around just making a little bit of an outline of what the rock walls gonna look like so we’ve got this little basic shape here we as you can kind of see if you kind of bring it out and in and make like lots of natural curves it generally Makes the cliff face look a lot better so I’m gonna do here actually it’s just since this is a self-contained thing we’re gonna bring it in right there so now what we’re gonna do and this will kind of depend on how sheer you want it To be you can if you want it to be super sheer cliff so you can just kind of go up like this and then kind of come out like that and that would be a really really really steep cliff face but I don’t generally like to do that so let’s see we’ll bring It in like this and as you can see a lot of this I will say if you’re doing this in survival one of the things you will most likely really want for building this kind of stuff is a silk touch pickaxe because it will make your life So much easier unless you want to build this out of cobblestone entirely out of cobble or andesite I guess in which case it’s a bit easier but as you can see we’re slowly just gonna kind of for this first part we’re kinda just gonna bring The cliff in a bit so the idea will be we’re trying to bring it in more towards that original point and we’ll actually do that so it’s not the thing don’t be afraid to change the kind of outline of the cliff as you go just kind of see where where It’s kind of taken you and adjust accordingly so like right here we’ve kind of got layer number three and actually I feel like I want to do that too all right so we’re gonna now come in for the next layer and it’s gonna come in like that And let’s see well maybe we’ll do that instead do this and then kind of just keep going like this and as you can see we’re starting to get this nice nice natural shape going it’s try and avoid areas like here and stuff where it kind of looks too symmetrical I mean you do Want some symmetry you want some symmetry to kind of make it appealing to look at but you also don’t want too many of the same shapes going on in the same place so that actually kind of works a bit better all right so now what we’re Gonna do is a what I this isn’t necessarily required you could and I’ll actually show this right here you could have this kind of just be how your clip goes you get you keep making it get smaller and smaller and smaller as you head towards the top and eventually make It meeting the peak so that’d be a bit more if you want to make a mountain out of it maybe that’s the tutorial I’ll do at some point later but what I start to do now is once I’ve gone in a few blocks I start to like doing this which is to Create overhangs start creating a bit of a lip over our cliff because this will help a lot with terrain later with grass later as it kind of will allow the grass to overhang over the top of the cliff and give it a bit more of an interesting Well look and feel slash story in my opinion and then we kind of just keep doing this and there are a few areas where it isn’t bad to just kind of keep going back if you’re building this in survival every time you build a layer Hop back it down to the ground level and just kind of look at it see what what is there how is this looking how is it feeling what you change what should you add what can you do to make it look a bit better see even small things like That can vastly improve the look of the cliff we’re just gonna kind of come along here now and do this and now we’re about where we wanted the clift and so as you can see we’ve got this nice-looking shape we might actually curve that out a bit Mainly because I keep forgetting we have all these other blocks in here that we’ll use later um and even though this is where the grass levels that I’m actually going to need to extend it one more up to kind of just give it a bit More of a lip and then we will go to working with grass and seeing how that looks and we’re gonna get rid of that all right so now we have the basis of the cliff now what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna take this grass block over Here and just start kind of guiding it along the top of every single block here just kind of like that’s basically doing a second outline now from here what you can do is in a few places do what I’m gonna do which is just kind of lay down Some overhanging grass don’t put it everywhere but in a few areas particularly in corners it starts to look really good and now you’ve kind of got your basic cliff shape and now obviously you can do things like create the grass back layer the grass itself Kind of make this a bit more of like a hill things like that and as you can see we kind of got this nice really cut out shape and it would look quite nice and natural in your basic world so now we’re gonna take it up another level so this In itself would fit in quite well with default minecraft I think that’s pretty easy to see but if we then come in with andesite cobblestone and since these have not been added into the game stone blocks and stair or stairs they’re stone stairs and slabs we come up with all of These we’re gonna do it what it’s called texture variation we’re gonna come in and basically replace some of the blocks to break up this basic like block of stone make it look a bit more interesting now don’t go to well you how have you you want to go with this it just depends On the style you’re going for some people you’ll see basically it just make a bottom layer entirely out of it and a site then another layer out of stone then another layer out of say great concrete powder to kind of give a bit of like an eroded weathered look Like that would work well or that would work really really well along a riverbed making it look like the stones at the bottom are super wet and the higher you get the drier the stones are but as you see here if we just throw in a few more We’re not gonna go too heavy with the weathering / texturing here just cuz it’s a tutorial at the end of the day this doesn’t need to be the highest quality if this were in one of my survival world I would probably spend a lot more time carefully placing each Block to give it like optimal you know spacing and all that I probably put a lot more of all this in but that takes it can take quite a while to do this and I’m gonna make sure we’re getting a bit of this everywhere you don’t want too Many spots where it isn’t or like if it’s all at the bottom it’ll be really noticeable but if it’s not at the top you kind of get what I mean I think but uh it’s also throw some and all right that’s already got one so actually throw In another andesite there kind of build up the inside a little and now this would be a step up from the basic one it already looks even better now and now if we come in with some slabs and stairs of both andesite cobble or Vanda site Cobble and smooth stone we start to get this much more smoothed out appearance to the cliff it’ll start to look a lot more like something you could potentially see in real life and bits like this do that this andesite slab And that’s another thing especially with stairs trying to do stuff like this where you place them in different directions will give them a bit more of a interesting look do like this and we can throw one down there throw it one here here there there there there here Here and now we don’t want ooh the same stair right next to each other and then this this this and just like that our cliff face is looking ok I I would say noticeably better and just kind of chuck some more down don’t to get rid of too Much of the texturing we’ll get that back and then it’s done so all right and I would say that’s a good place to end this tutorial here so hopefully following this you guys couldn’t have a better idea of how to make these rock walls I’ve made in my series you might Not need to go as crazy as I’ve gone with this I mean I put a lot of stuff into this one um but I think this should give you a basic general idea of how the concept works how you can get these really nice looking natural cliffs in Your world and how you can really just improve them I guess actually I’ll make one final improvement and that is we take some leaves a fun thing you can do is say you had like a big like garden patch or something up there or you had been using leaves elsewhere around the Terrain you can kind of drape these around cliff faces to make them look a bit overgrown typically this isn’t the best vine stuff I’ve ever done before typically it looks a lot nicer but you can kind of see the proof of concept right there so yeah anyway thank you Guys for watching hope you’ve all enjoyed this tutorial and let me know down below anything else you’d like to see be it more terrain buildings stuff like that and I think you’re good for watching we’ve all enjoyed and until next time guys see ya Video Information
