Hello i’m fbx toy cat and welcome back start minecraft update news video yesterday a brand new snapshot released it’s called 21w48 and yes it did come out on a thursday very interesting stuff also very interesting is the fact that it updated copper ore so now instead of Dropping two to three coppers you’ll get two to five and also they made another interesting change to copper which is that when you put a block of copper into a stone cutter you can get four cut copper from it this is all very interesting loving the changes they’re Making to copper in general also loving the changes they’re making the underground not just in terms of increasing the number of dungeons yes that’s an official change also in terms of changing the all distribution this is the new chart but finally they decided to make an interesting semi-secret Change in this update which is that while making all of those underground changes they decided to also rename some biomes and so take this biome for instance uh you probably call this the jungle i mean the thing of the big trees that are made from jungle wood is Definitely called the jungle but this is called the jungle edge officially or at least this is what most people call it but if you look in the game code now using f3 you’ll see that it’s actually called minecraft colon sparse underscore jungle in other words this is actually The sparse jungle biome and it’s far from being the only buyer minecraft is renamed and so i wanted to talk about the interesting philosophy of like what is a biome really named is it named what the f3 menu calls it or is it what the community calls it um but let’s dive Into that right after we mention the fact that hello i’m ebx toy cat and you can subscribe if you want to see more of these videos and i would like it if you did that wow that’s my subscription pitch i would like it if you subscribed anyway that said now let’s talk about The fact that as you can see new biome names are here not just for the sparse jungle but also for this biome you know the the spruce tiger biome with the very big tiger trees the mega tiger is what it was initially called many years ago Of course it’s had quite a few name changes since then but the current name that is officially in the code just to prove this right now we’ll show you right there we are 45 blocks away from an old growth pine tiger and ignoring the fact that this is a very interesting Tiger or sorry this is an interesting old growth pine tiger biome that goes right for a village it’s interesting that they’ve changed the name of this one as well and it’s not just two biomes they’ve renamed in this update apparently by the way old growth spruce Tiger is a different biome to old spruce pine tiger this this used to be the giant spruce tiger and this used to be the giant tree tiger they’re both made from spruce wood but i i don’t actually understand the differences beyond that you’re not i i’m guessing it’s the fact That these don’t have leafs growing down from them whereas these ones do have leafs growing down from them it’s all very interesting stuff you not learn about minecraft biomes every day next stop is probably minecraft’s saddest biome to look at in the current update this is the former extreme hills biome You know before we had mountains this is the closest thing we had it’s again genuinely tragic to look at after you’ve seen caves and cliffs however it’s no longer called the extreme hills probably because it’s not very extreme instead it’s called the windswept hills i mean Where is the wind that is sweeping over these hills i would like to see it personally but it doesn’t exist here anymore there’s also the shattered savanna biome which has been renamed the windswept savannah in fact if you look through this you can see there’s windswept gravelly hills windswept forest windswept everything basically It’s all very ludicrous when you think about it um but basically they’ve added a whole new category of biome instead of being edged or shattered or weird variants instead it’s called windswept which um you know like a part of me wants to say okay this is the last uh You know major snapshot before minecon live maybe wind will be a feature they actually uh talk about or consider adding in some way because right now calling this windswept is just a lie right i mean what wind is sweeping up here there is no difference in wind from Top to bottom of world because there is no such concept as that in minecraft and i don’t even know how you would go about adding it i mean in real life there is more wind at higher elevations but is that a good enough justification to call this the windswept forest by the way Alongside renaming all of these biomes that you might know and love or rather you don’t know and love them anymore because it’s the windswept hills and also no one would love extreme hills off this update so i guess that’s fine um but also they’ve decided to just Eliminate a whole ton of biomes from minecraft and when i say that i mean when you look at this list you’re like wait they’re eliminating the tiger hills the badlands plateau the jungle hills the wooded hills etc again it’s a very big list and i understand that it seems Like a lot of farms are going away no they’re just merging them into the default biome type so obviously the snowy tiger hills will just become a part of the snowy tiger etc etc etc and so they’re simplifying the biome naming system by adding our new set of biome Names to it and i want to use this as an opportunity to talk about the whole uh you know like is it about uh you know original intent no author’s intent or is there something called death of the author because this is a biome that i am Still probably going to call the extreme hills until the end of time uh correct me if you disagree with me on that one but i i don’t think i can call this the windswept hills it’ll take me a long time to learn to say that i don’t know That i can ever start calling this the old growth birch forest as opposed to either the birch forest m biom which it used to be officially known by and then the tool birch forest which is a much better descriptor than old growth old growth birch forest what does that mean I don’t understand why what makes this old growth is it that it’s been here so long the trees grow taller actually that does make sense doesn’t it but the interesting thing is that i don’t i i just feel like it’s an unintuitive bio biome name uh for new players and i’ve Said this you know like um whenever there’s things that are in development obviously you need to know that they’ll change for instance the new biomes that they’re adding to the mountains i genuinely am not even gonna both remembering their names until they finish changing because they did change A few of those in those update that like the ones on screen right now you know can you point out what those biomes look like i can’t until the update comes out because they might change their names before then and so that’s fine i feel like getting attached to names of things Is kind of silly i mean the warden even though we haven’t seen it yet right which is interesting that like the update is coming out in a couple of months or so and we haven’t seen one of the bigger features but um the warden is Coming out in a couple of months and it would be fine and even though we’ve known about it for a full year it wouldn’t be a big problem if they changed it to being the you know the big man cave but dude or you know something like that because it’s a development Feature however what this is doing when the birch forest um the big birch forest the tool birch forest becomes the uh old growth birch forest when the jungle edge biome something which people have this like strong attachment too for its rarity and everything else becomes the Sparse jungle um it’s uh it’s it’s a really interesting name change because the community as a whole isn’t probably going to adopt it in fact the fact that it was made such a small footnote on this week’s snapshot means that even people who follow the snapshot closely might not know about this particular Change and might not uh you know even care about it very much because sure it’s just technical biome name ring and that’s where the interesting debate from this whole thing comes in because what does matter does it matter what minecraft themselves both technically in the game and outside the game in their Official communications does it matter what they call a biome or doesn’t matter what the community calls the blame this is the whole um you know authorial intent versus death of the offer or whatever uh this is the debate about should it matter what the people who Make a piece of art a media uh care about or should it matter what people get from it and here’s an interesting example of that right so we’ll ignore the stony beach which no longer is called the stoney beach by the way it’s called the stony shore which actually is A pretty small name for this thing right here um but let’s also show you this biome right here this is a biome that changed its name so long ago um that i i genuinely can’t point out when it was 2017 18 it was it’s been years since This has been called the badlands biome as you can see what’s that i’m in the wooded badlands right now i mean it’s not very wooded in it it’s also not very bad it’s a very small example of a bad landslide so as you can see um this is An example of a mesa biome in my head i call this a mesa biome because it looks like a mesa and it’s a uh you know that’s what i’ve always known it as when i was first introduced to this biome in 2013 or whatever the update that changed The world was i was like whoa that’s a mesa fireman when i first got my hands on it in 2015 when it came out the console edition i again i i had the same amount of erection of like whoa that is a crazy cool thing and so when they Changed it to the badlands it’s like well you can change the name internally but it doesn’t change what everyone calls it and again i did a twitter poll as you can see 80 of people call it the mesa biome and not the badlands biome and so there’s the interesting debate is It does it matter what people call this biome or does it matter what this biome is you know there’s an interesting thing there and um you know there’s a there’s a whole wider debate about this we have in the world at large right that like Does it matter what you are and what you believe to be you or does it matter what everyone else calls you you know if you if you it’s it’s you know almost like that phrase of like you know he who has to tell other people to call him king is Not a king but it’s also like yeah well i mean if if no one does call you a king you’re not gonna feel like one if people call you great all the time you might start to feel like you’re better than if people say yeah you suck that you know There is a small element of the fact that what people call something does change it to some extent that’s why there are big movements where people are very um on board with having uh you know like trying to you know like change what the world will call them because they Feel like that will change their own perception of themselves and although there’s a whole interesting thing about should you care about what people think the fact is that to some extent humans do and always have and should that apply to biomes in minecraft i don’t know i Feel like only you can answer that question you can call this biome the orange desert if you want to and if you and all your friends call up the orange desert are you incorrect for doing so in fact if every single person you know you Live in a small country you know you you live in in north macedonia and every single north macedonia knows this as the orange forest even you know it doesn’t even make sense of the orange forest you’re the one person there that’s like actually it’s the wooded badlands or you Know even if you say it’s the mesa bind which is the wider minecraft multi-term are you correct or are you just being technically correct and oh is there a difference between those two things is a really interesting debate i’d love to have but instead i would like to quickly Talk to you about the new or distribution for minecraft 1.18 still not final but then it now has this little text saying almost so that’s you know that’s pretty good we’re almost at the final or distribution and the reason this one’s so interesting i mean besides The fact that if we look at iron iron now generates super well really high up and then it stops about 80 to 64. so regular height you’re at is where you’ll find the least iron or at least not too much then you find another huge variation of it at y16 and it’s very Interesting to look at this and be like huh so you go up to y 256 or you go down to y 16 for iron again it’s always interesting stuff but the interesting changes they made this week that are so so interesting we have to talk about Them is as you can see emerald will still generate super commonly the higher up you go if you want to mine emerald which again you probably shouldn’t want to mine emerald but if you want to mine emerald go super high up except actually now look at this if you look at the very Very very bottom of emerald it still does generate all the way down here at y minus 16. just in case you don’t believe me look at that this is y16 and uh you know although i could ask why 16 uh this does mean that as you can see where the Deep state led generates deep slate emerald is officially becoming really mineable in minecraft i i think i theorized this for a while based on developer responses the deep slate emerald uh currently exists in minecraft one point um you know seven scene but it was not going to exist in 1.18 it looks Like they’ve got this here just for continuity reasons so you can still find deep slate emerald easier in 1.17 chunks than after but you can find it after which is a huge change and then also as you can see copper has the exact same thing the peak copper layer is y48 where You can now get two to five copper wow big change uh but also as you can interestingly see right here copper will also generate in very small amounts below the deep slate layer meaning deep slate copper and deep slate emerald now exist in survival for 1.18 again it’s Not final but it is almost so expect these two odds to exist in the final version however deep slate coal is still going to be one of those blocks you can only pick up in 1.17 i think this one might stay because again if they were Going to update it this would have been the logical time but if you want to get a block that is only available on the current update get yourself some deep slate coal and if you want to i don’t know find biome names and know that your your description of this is a jungle Edge is correct then you’ve got to make sure you do that right now because because time is running out until it changes its name and everything about this biome alongside it and whether that’s good or bad is your your your take i personally do think the sparse jungle is one of the few New biome names that actually prefer the old ones but should it matter about whether you prefer the names or not that’s a whole nother issue of like you know should information shouldn’t be contingent on whether we want to believe information information should exist in the binary state of being or not but yet One of the things you learn more and more about humans as i at least i’ve been learning as i go through life is that actually as much as you don’t want it to be true the information you know like the propagation of information depends on how much people want to Spread it and want to uh believe it the truth is it always has think about every weird piece of advice regarding this last year or so people don’t spread the advice of like oh yeah what you should just do is uh you know cut down uh in Directions by a third people evil say no i’m not gonna see a single human being for the next uh three weeks because that’s that’s how long it was it was three weeks and then we we uh we got rid of the pandemic good job boys but um Also as you can see uh also as you might have noticed some people were just like nah nah nah just do everything exactly the same as before people still stuck with the idea that surfaces were this terrifying thing because you know if we believe that surfaces where germs and Bacteria come from that allows us to thin to our existing world view that like oh as long as you don’t touch the side rail on an escalator then you won’t you won’t get sick and you know dumb things like that you know even when we learned that it was all About uh you know like transmission from air and all these other things it’s like why would that spread why would you tell people to fear something in a different way when they’re already very fearful why would you tell some people something that doesn’t let them feel superior and So i i will say we can name it the sparse jungle because that allows me to feel superior was this even a video at this point i hope you’ll enjoy this minecraft video it combined with a little bit of what do names even mean video i feel like maybe it’d be easier If i just had a fixed opinion that like yeah so new biome names are awesome if you call it the gravelly hill or the extreme hill then you’re just a nerd but i mean uh yeah sorry you’re just uh you’re dumb but again it’s so much more Complex and minecraft is one of the very few games i can think of where there are so many names within the community for the same thing that’s just increasing as they continuously rename uh biomes and uh yeah i think it’s cool they’ve reduced the number of biomes by Merging some together and i also feel like it’s really interesting they’ve increased the size of the biomes to make the game feel more like a real world in some ways i feel like it makes things less interesting when you’re in a biome you don’t want to be like look how long The savannah biome goes on for like give me another buy on minecraft please i’m i’m dying out here no you get more savannah savannah savannah until the end of your day and um or should i say oh this is a savannah by the way look at This i mentioned it before but this is a savannah hill except actually no it’s just minecraft savannah still again interesting changes they made to all the biome names maybe you find it interesting maybe
