[Applause] Hello everyone and welcome back to another exciting episode of craftology the series will play every single version of minecraft from start to finish this is a very special episode as it will be our introduction into the multiplayer test versions multiplayer has been widely hyped up by Both notch and the community at the time notch’s original plan was to add multiplayer functionality to the game as early as 0.0.12a but we all know what how that ended notch pushed multiplayer back to 0.0.13 a then 0.0.14a and had promised that 14a would come with working multiplayer but the last it Did not now we are almost ready to move on to version 0.0.15a however there are some things that i forgot to mention last episode i apologize for that but the episode was already getting very long and i’m a bit more busy these days since the second year of university started this week all Right so the first thing i completely forgot to gloss over is an unused texture in the terrain.png file it is this weird looking white texture which some players think it could be for clouds others think it’s for woo and i personally think it might be for snow Because notch had an idea for snow tiles as early as 0.0.11 a and what i’ve done here is that i’ve essentially swapped the cobblestone texture with this weird texture so we can see how it would potentially look like in game yeah i don’t know about you but this Kind of looks like snow to me it could also be cloth you know let’s try to build something with this and see what it might have been like all right so i’ve built some really basic stuff here just to get a feel as to what this block might even be I’ve placed some in random patterns here on the ground to see if they fit to be snow and honestly they do kind of look like the grass texture so maybe it is supposed to be like snowy grass but if that’s the case then why is there No like side texture maybe that was just removed or never really implemented yet but to me at least this kind of looks like snowy grass uh let me know what you guys think in the comments down below do you think this is supposed to be snow or Wool or even clouds and speaking of clouds i’ve made one up there and from so far away it’s actually really difficult to make out the texture so obviously it does kind of look like a cloud even though the shape is kind of weird but let’s ignore that for now uh but Yeah it does kind of look like a cloud from far away but if i pilot up so that i get closer let’s see how it looks like in that way um yeah i don’t know like it doesn’t really do it for me i don’t really think it Looks like a cloud like up close the texture it would have been a lot more like it would have had a lot less noise if it was supposed to be a cloud i don’t know i don’t know what this texture is nobody really knows for sure We can’t really confirm it we can only theorize and in my theory it’s supposed to be snow and uh this texture was added on may 26th so a day before uh 0.0.4 tna was actually released uh it so that means that the developer builds did not have this texture so Notch was testing something in probably a developer build that we don’t really know much about so unfortunately when we may never know what this texture was supposed to be the other thing that i forgot to mention is that you can actually build inside of yourself in this version however it’s Not in the traditional sense you can’t really like automatically build inside of yourself with any block other than saplings of course because they’re not solid but what you can do is you can use sand or gravel and you can like stand at the edge of a wall and just put sand above yourself And you can just bury yourself in sand like this and of course it also works for gravel as well because gravel also falls and uh now that i’m inside here it also brings me to another change that was made and that’s in the way uh block texture of block face textures render In previous versions the only block faces that used to render were the ones that the player could see so any face that the player cannot see would not render however in this version for some reason all block faces render from all sides and i have no idea how This doesn’t kill performance it might be only that the ones that are inside of the player render but that doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense if that’s the case then that’s a very weird design choice again the renderer changed a lot in this version in particular and This is one of the changes that i completely forgot to mention last time all right are you all ready to update to our first multiplayer version well not yet as before we get to the real 0.0.15a there is a developer build we must quickly go over first This is the only known developer build of 0.0.15a which was made on the same day as 0.0.14a underscore 08 just a mere 20 or so minutes after the release of that version in fact and right off the bat you can see the first major change and that is to do with the trees Trees not only have a new texture but they also have a brand new shape which much more closely resembles that of modern oak trees in fact it might even be the exact same shape as modern trees and to be honest i’m gonna miss the silly old trees Even though these obviously look a lot more realistic and nicer the old trees just got a nice charm to them now the tree shape wasn’t the only thing that changed in this version as in front of me you can see four different texture changes let’s start off with the logs which Might not be very noticeable at first but they have a couple of extra pixels in the top right corner of the side texture which adds a layer of detail the leaf texture is completely different and it’s not as in your face with the green anymore i think it looks a lot nicer The sand is basically the same texture but it’s slightly brighter and the gravel texture has also been completely changed and it looks a lot more like actual gravel and not just some weird blob thing oh man gravel beaches look so much better with this new texture seriously All right that’s pretty much it for this developer build it was quite a quick one so let’s move on to the main meat of the episode the full release of 0.0.15a after 10 whole episodes we are finally here in the first ever multiplayer version of minecraft This is a major milestone for us as this is the first version in the multiplayer test sub phase of classic which in turn is of course the second technically third sub phase of classic if you want to count the private test builds and at first glance it might not seem Like much has changed we still have the new uh tree shape and textures and all that and of course the biggest addition made in this version is fully functioning multiplayer however before we move on to that i want to quickly go over some single player only changes Now the first change has to do with gravel and how it generates notice how in this entire world there is absolutely no exposed gravel anywhere there’s just a bunch of sand here and there but no gravel inside that is because starting from this version gravel will only generate under Water so right there in the distance you can probably make out how there’s a bunch of gravel there there’s gravel there as well but it’s always under water i’m down here in the caves because i wanted to find some lava since there’s a couple of changes made to the lava that I want to show off uh firstly you might notice right away that lava is now fully bright so it no longer gets the shadows applied to it um and it looks you know a lot more realistic now the dark lava from the previous couple of versions was really Strange and the other thing is to do with the way lava spreads if you remember all the way back in 0.0.148 developer built to when the water spreading mechanics were changed um so were the mechanics for lava and it used to spread with the exact same speed As water but now it spreads a lot slower than water does which makes more sense you know because lava is a heavier liquid a heavier material so yeah remember that pesky bug where if you would place a block directly above water or lava the liquid underneath it would completely turn invisible Well that buck has finally been fixed it existed as far back as 0.0.128 developer build 2 which i covered back in episode 5 and it only took notch 3 major versions to fix it so hooray for that this version changed the particle code now particles have a new value which Determines their weight and depending on that value the spread and the speed with which they fall is different and currently the only particles in the game that have a different um weight to them are the leak particles so now whenever you break leaves the particles spread out a lot more and they Fall a lot slower because they are essentially the game things that they are lighter than the other particles the last change that affects us in single player is the human animation which has been changed so that humans no longer move their head when running and with that we are finally ready to Cover all of the new stuff multiplayer you see that that it’s actually not what you may think it is it is not a glitched mob it’s in fact another player well in reality it’s just my alternate account but this is running on a local server and the server software for this Version is lost unfortunately it was uh never even released to the public so i’m using a recreation from a very talented individual from the omni archive called mr lord sith so kudos to him without him this wouldn’t be possible uh but yeah this is actual multiplayer Now we’re currently in a as i said local server and this is another player and you can see that other players use the human mob model and texture so every single player is going to look like this there’s no custom skins yet so everybody is chief and the animation The movement animation plays even when you’re standing still and that’s again true for all of the other players as well and it looks really really silly now one bug with multiplayer is that you can actually spawn steve’s your self and it can get really confusing because there’s absolutely no indication that This is a player other than the fact that he’s standing still of course but if he were to start moving it would look almost like he was just a human mop because there’s no nameplate uh there’s no custom skin there’s nothing like that so now that i spun these humans it’s gonna Get kind of difficult to know and uh these humans that i spawned are only client-side so they’re only on my end uh and other people will not be able to see them all right now expectedly this is the earliest multiplayer version so it’s bound to have some books and right here I’m gonna show off two of them uh the first book is that players can actually build inside of themselves in this version with any block so of course we can still just use the centric from before but we can also just build inside of ourselves with solid blocks like we could All the way back in classic 0.0.3 in earlier if you remember and you can also build inside of other players like that so i just covered my ultimate account in cobblestone which is pretty silly and the other thing is that for some reason block particles don’t actually Work in multiplayer uh that’s why i wanted to show them off in single player because in multiplayer there’s absolutely no block particles so when i break blocks it’s again like in uh all the way back in pre-classic before block particles were added another very cool multiplayer only book Is that while you’re connected to a server you can actually load an existing level or generate a brand new level and if you choose to do so you are going to be in a brand new world you’ll no longer be able to see any other players But you can see the changes they make and if you make any changes to this world it will be applied to the main server world which is very kind of creepy actually just seeing a random pillar for example being built uh speaking of which if i build a pillar Up to the height limit in this world it should carry over to um the server world so once i’m done doing this i’m going to reconnect to the server and we should be able to find our pillar of planks here i have reconnected to the server here’s The other player with his own pillar and surely enough there’s our wooden pillar and you can see that it’s floating above the air because uh in the world that we generated there was a uh sort of a cliff there so we started building from the Top of the cliff and of course in the actual real silver world there is no cliff here it’s just water so it appears to be floating so yeah that’s kind of cool how you can generate a level without any other level but it’s only client-side and yet it Still interacts with the server that’s just an oversight from notch because this was a very early version of multiplayer test and in fact it wasn’t even public at the time it was used for private testing so think of these versions uh these early multiplayer versions as if they are the um Private test builds of multiplayer essentially so only some people had access to them the way respawning works in multiplayer is quite interesting whenever the server makes a new level it gets set a random spawn position which whenever people connect to that server they will spawn in that always in that One position and in this level it’s somewhere around here and it’s always at the height limit so when you connect your server you spawn at the height limit and you fall down and afterwards you can set your own spawn point in the level so for example right here if i want to Set my spawn point here i press enter and then when i press r i’m going to be brought back to my own respawn location so there’s essentially two respawn locations there’s one that’s set by the server which uh whenever people connect and reconnect your server they will spawn there and then they can Set a new location for themselves locally um and another thing is that you can actually save any server vote in your own like world slots because level saving has not been disabled so we can just save this world uh for example let’s save it right here Test mp world let’s say and i’m going to save it and now of course i’m still connected to the server but i can load let’s say i want to load craft to grad even though i’m connected to the server and if i load this level i’m now back here and The players are once again visible because it’s the exact same world as the server one an interesting fact about this version is that it was re-uploaded a total of seven times in a series of so-called multiplayer tests the initial upload was made on may 31st which is the one that we’re playing Right now as it is the only one that has been archived the first re-upload happened on june 3rd at 1816 utc which changed the animation for human mobs and players but the animation played way too quickly the second rear plot was made on the same day at 1828 utc It added better client interpolation fixed the player animations and also introduced a new bug where a lot of players appear to just be standing about the third reupload happened at 19 utc which added visible usernames above players heads and re-added particles to multiplayer building and destroying was also made less laggy The photo upload happened at 1950 utc which added chat which was accessed by pressing t chat could be used in single player although sending a message would cause the game to crash the screen also goes to black when the server is shut down now the fifth reupload was made on june 4th At 1651 utc which changed the level sending code to pulse whenever a new player logs in this version didn’t launch at all the sixth reupload was made on the same day at 1658 utc it fixed the crash book from the previous version but players got stuck at spawn The seventh and final reupload was made at 1703 and it fixed the bug where players did not appear to move however it also introduced a new bug where players disappeared after using the chat alright so i’m back here in single player in craft grad you can tell that I’m in single player because we have block particles and that is because unfortunately this particular version the silver software for it cannot load words that were already saved in single player so i came here in single player instead of multiplayer because i wanted to clear out this entire area here if you Remember from last time there was this huge mountain here that i completely dug out you can tell where the mountain was and how high it was from the wall there uh because i kept that intact because right here i want to put a big old church like pretty much a cathedral Um and i’m gonna build it after we upgrade because i first want to show off all of the features from the re-uploads in the next version oh and by the way this is what the town hall looks like with the new textures it’s a lot lighter isn’t it I think it looks better like this man those trees look so cursed with the new textures and everything all right enough messing around time to upgrade the first patch of 0.0.15a fixed the bug where players would vanish after using the chat but it was very prone to crashing And speaking of crashes i’m here in single player and here’s what happens when you use the chat in single player client error wow all right then we’re back in multiplayer because i want to show off all the stuff added in g15a re-uploads so here is the names the player tags which appear above Players heads they are 2g and they follow the player essentially so they’re always visible you can no longer build inside of other players or yourself when the player is standing still they no longer play the animation so they now just either in the t pose like that uh They’ll only animate when they start moving uh block particles have been re-added in multiplayer so they now work again and here’s the chat this is a chat message there we go and it’s it will be visible to all other players connected to the server of course and you know what since we’re already Here in multiplayer i figured why not use this to my advantage and make a time lapse of me building the church using my alternate account here let’s do it [Applause] [Applause] So [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] And here it is in all of its glory the church of saint beleza yeah that’s the name i decided to go for uh some of you who already know me might not even be surprised uh but yeah this took a long time as the um uh time lapse would suggest and a couple Of things actually noticed uh while i was doing that is that uh first of all you can no longer spawn human mobs when you’re a multiplayer so pressing g doesn’t do anything and the other thing is that um you may notice it during the time lapse but the block particles are completely client-side So other players will not be able to see your particles and vice versa which makes sense because they’re just entities and entities are always client-side but yeah anyway this is the church um i haven’t done the interior design yet i’m gonna leave that for when we upgrade but the Plan is to use the towers on the sides to have a staircase going up and then right here i’m gonna have a platform um where i’m gonna put an organ uh of course here we’re gonna have just some seats um for player uh over here is gonna be The um priest so i’m gonna do like a little uh platform for the priest here and if i have enough space i might also do some confession boots at the front here uh but we’ll see how that goes i might have to change this window up here because uh The platform is going to be directly above the tall windows uh the platform for the organ so it’s gonna kind of cut off the window so i think i’m gonna convert it from this cross to uh another one like that window over there but a bit smaller so expect that to change And of course around the perimeter i added some saplings some leaves and a couple of benches as well just to make things a little bit nicer these leg things here i am not really sure where i got the inspiration for this from uh definitely like some other Churches that i’ve seen in the past um but i think they look quite nice they really add to the build and make it look a lot less flat uh and i also really like the uh of course the two towers uh and maybe uh i know last episode i said that I want to keep the builds as they are but maybe i’m thinking that i will in the future replace the tops of the towers with gold blocks once we get access to them and maybe even add glass for the windows but again i haven’t decided yet but i might do that And around here the perimeter i’ve added a gravel pathway some more saplings and of course the benches and at the back here uh is where the pathway meets with the main one which leads from all the way over there the garden behind the uh town hall so it like connects now and It’s gonna continue over there in that flat area and in hindsight i should have put the church there and not here because it’s right up against the town hall so it feels a little bit crowded in there and you won’t really get to see the church in its full glory as clearly From far away because the town hall blocks the view but oh well too late for that now so there’s nothing much i can do about that uh and i still haven’t decided what i want to put here so if you have any ideas any suggestions on What i can put here then don’t hesitate to leave them in the comments down below anyway with all of that let’s quickly upgrade to the next patch and i will start working on the interior of the church we don’t really know what changed in this version all we know is that it was Very prone to crashing at the church the church of saint palesa i have done the interior and as i expected i had to redesign the front windows so instead of that cross we now just have those two um because of the platform and uh when you come inside i utilize This space to its fullest potential so i’ve added these massive things here which are supposed to represent chandeliers even though they’re a little bit too fat um because the middle section is two blocks instead of one block it would have been much better if it was one but Um oh well that’s just how the design went uh otherwise the like the roof the ceiling was way too flat we bought these so i decided to add them there’s two of them uh of course i’ve added all of these benches here so that the visitors you know can sit down and have A prayer or listen to the preacher who is all the way over there um there’s a small platform for him so that he can like come over here step on the platform and begin reading the bible or whatever uh these are supposed to be like uh candlesticks like Those um candlesticks where you can light a candle where every church has them um so there’s two up front here and two at the back uh and that right there i’m really pleased with how it went is the platform for the organ and the dirt stuff there Is the actual organ itself so we can actually go up there by using either of the two towers they’re both identical when we climb up we can uh come over here and here’s the actual organ so this is like the pipes this is supposed to be the keyboard and this is Obviously the seat and i have another window here it’s a much smaller one uh actually you know what i’m thinking i might just extend it um oops there we go that’s a bit better yeah i like that uh so that’s the organ and in both of These towers you can go at to the very top where i i’m supposed to have like bells but since i don’t have any you know actual bell blocks or even gold blocks i just did this i i don’t really know how to do a bell i’m sorry Um eventually i’ll put gold up there and uh but it’s such a cramped space that it’s kind of hard to really shape a bell uh but yeah that’s how the interior went i think it turned out pretty well um all things considered um and yeah now we’re ready to move on to Our last update let’s do it this last patch doesn’t really do much it added an error message for an invalid protocol and it fixed a crash bug from the previous version so it was now kick players immediately when the server has full as well since this episode is getting quite long And i have already finished the church i’m not really going to build anything in this version so we have come to the end of the episode if you enjoyed it be sure to drop me a like and a sub if you want to see more i will also be running a 15a Multiplayer server this weekend so drop by my discord if you want to play with me and some others without that being said i’d like to thank you very much for watching and i’ll see you in the next video have a good one bye bye you Video Information
