Hello my name is green and today i’m back with another episode of build school this time i’m going to be focusing on walls and a little bit of windows thrown in there as well because they come hand in hand so today i’ve got four naked walls in which i’m going to Try and demonstrate or show you different styles that you might incorporate into walls to make them less bland let’s get right into it and start with the first one which is a completely wooden wall and i’m going to use this one to demonstrate what we can do with a Completely flat wall so straight away i’m gonna frame it up with two bits of log along the bottom i’m then going to create these sort of support beams and set the base of the wall normally in houses would go all the way around i’m also laying out where a doorway would be Because i feel like that is a good thing to demonstrate when doing a wall so now i’ve laid out the frame of the bottom half and the doorway so now i’m just going to make some quick stairs and i’m going to decorate either side of them a Block above it so it gives it a nice frame itself once i’ve done that and i’m going to add a couple of doors on the other side so it has a little bit of depth to it and now i’m going to decorate that frame a little bit by adding some half slabs Underneath the frame what this does is create a nice arch over the doorway and really highlights it as an entrance while this bit has a bit more of a 3d element to it the rest of the build stays relatively flat at the top here i create a beam But i decide you know that could do with a curve because when detailing a wall adding curvature and other sort of details to it really help get it some definition so just adding a few layers of log integrated with these half slabs that sort of create more of a smooth curve to It really help your build but when detailing a wall there’s no point in having just a frame you don’t want large holes like i have so i need to start detailing the walls themselves and i do that just by adding a frame as i normally would i use sort of beams and Columns to decorate this style because when you have a large segment of wool like i’m trying to demonstrate with you have to break it up so it’s more digestible to detail adding simple holes in the wall work really well as windows and you can decorate those windows and Give it a really nice color contrast by adding grass blocks which you use as flower pots after that i then go back up to the top of the build and this is a very common detail trick that you just knock in a shape into the wall and then Behind it put a color or you know whatever block you want once you’ve done that fill in the windows and this style is kind of finished now as you can see it’s remained very flat but still has a depth to it just because i’ve added a Block behind and a block in front that’s very key to this style the second design here is what i’m going to be demonstrating with my clay wall and the point i want to get across with this one is how we’re going to use an overhang as A detail feature so when i’ve created my frame i’ve made the top half one block out compared to the last one which was almost completely flat so this one sort of resembles an old style english house and i create some support beams which also act as details themselves so i’m Going to be using a similar detail system just segmenting up the build into small digestible things to detail once i’ve done that i can then knock in some holes and arch some windows in using stairs and slabs are a great way to detail as long as they fit in with your Build spamming them all over the place can make your build look really busy and you really don’t want that or sometimes you do it’s just not my preferred style using stairs as little archways is a really nice way just to make it look like it has something to it and you can Put them in the corners or arch them over windows and again using grass as flower pots is a really nice way to give your build a bit of contrast again i’m using the same techniques from the last one but this time i’m showing you that by Adding that extra layer of depth you can improve your build even further just by creating a small overhang of even just one block so now that this clay wall’s done and i must admit it is very similar to the first one but again that overhang Is a very good tip when you want to do that kind of style next this one will seem very familiar to those of you that have watched some of my previous videos i’m going to demonstrate how you can detail a wall without giving it too much Depth this time i’m going to use my desert wall style for this because it demonstrates it quite nicely i create the beams that go across which you know any of my desert builds have but what’s key about this build is that i’m using different kinds of sandstone Block to give it an air of detail but the texture it gives isn’t one that’s reliant on depth you can add windows here just as you would in any other build but again you can keep them relatively flat as you can see everything here doesn’t have too much Depth but what you can do is still create those overhangs or you know the archways over windows or anything like that and that’s very very simple and that was the main point i wanted to give you on this ball so we’re now going to move on to the Final wall which is how we can use shape to detail so again we’re going to give those frames either side of the build but this time we’re going to give it a shape and i’m just going to add a very simple square into the middle and make Sure it’s centered that shape is what gives this wall detail it segments it up for us and as you can see i’m adding the similar detail system that i used in walls one and two so this time because i’ve given it some shape it already has a highlight the walls actually funnel Towards you so you have somewhere to focus so i’m again adding windows like i would before detailing it in a very similar fashion to what you’ve already seen the difference being that this bit in the middle is where the doorway will be and the shape itself contributes to the Detail of the wall i know this is a bit cheaty because i don’t think that detailing and shaping should be used in the same video but at the same time it’s so vital to get a good shape that complements your detail that i thought i had to include It so i’m gonna just show a quick window that you could do that is very good for detailing and that would be the start and that there would be the start of a very good victorian house and again i’m demonstrating how you could detail the front of it and add Some lights and lighting is very important in a build don’t get me wrong and once you’ve done that you can kind of get the idea that this build here this style of wall really needs that shape to complement the whole system so i’m now going to Quickly go back over all of the four that we’ve done on this one here what i could have done is integrated the one from the desert wall and added sort of cobblestone brick into the stone itself just to give it that fake texture again and we’re back At the sandstone again where a flat wall doesn’t need to have loads of depth to look good and back to the second one where an overhang is a really good way to detail again that’s kind of using shape but in a different way and then We’re back to the first one which is the fundamentals of detailing you need to segment your build up and add details along with windows and give it a nice color contrast once you’ve done that you could integrate all of these different walls together to create one really fine house I usually use all of the systems i’ve told you to make a good house once you’ve mastered all four elements of the things i’ve just taught you you can make one really fine looking house i really hope this has helped you thank you very much for watching and if you have any More suggestions please let me know in the comments below this was a suggestion from a previous build school episode where people wanted to find out how to make walls i hope this has helped you thank you very much for watching goodbye Video Information
