Minecraft City/Building Critique – Apr 2022

Hello i’m matt i’m reviewing your builds if you want me to review your build join the discord using the link in the description and add pictures of your builds to the alpine reviews your builds channel so in this series i give you feedback both good and bad but i try and keep it

As constructive as i possibly can so it’s been a little bit since i made the last video so there’s a lot of builds in there so i won’t be able to get to all of them but i’m going to try my best this one’s really cool it’s like a

Triangle shape i think it was i checked it out in game it was pretty cool really good work with the pillars and all your vertical elements here and i like that it’s divided into sections so i believe it’s one two three floors and then it’s divided by these two going all the way

Around here nice top section very good you can have your hvac up here it’s a nice place to hide it here’s a nice layout of this area too this one’s cool this reminds me of oh what’s it called the uh the bay adelaide center in toronto it’s the one that has the kpmg

Logo on top i was in toronto a couple months ago so i think i have a video of it so if i do then i’ll just put it up right now it’s really clean it looks realistic you can see where the floors are which is

Nice but you can’t see too much of it which is really well done i like that you have this part sticking out here so it looks like kind of an older historic building and then down here this is a good sized entrance it looks like a bank tower and it’s really

Well done this one’s interesting i’m not super familiar with the style but i think it looks pretty cool there is a lot going on here i don’t know if that’s a stylistic thing one thing i notice here is this brick is maybe throwing it off a little bit i feel like the red

Clash is a little too much with the rest of it the reason i say this is that the rest of your build it’s lots of white black and a handful of gray right here and then all the way at the bottom and i feel like the red just sticks out a

Little bit too much but that’s just my opinion i’m just a guy on the internet ignore me if you want to you don’t have to listen to me i like your window shapes here i like the amount of depth here you have the pillars coming up and

Then this is just in by one and then you have one and a half with your panes here we have a pair of bridges here that looks really cool it’s been a long time since i built a bridge so even when i’m looking through these builds i’m getting inspiration for

My city as well that’s really nice honestly i don’t think i’d change anything the only things i know about bridges are the structural components so in terms of the style i can’t really comment on it but i do think it looks really cool this is interesting i like

What you do with the textures here how you change it up a little bit i’m not super familiar with default i haven’t used it in quite some time but one little thing that i’m not super sure about is this polished granite right here it has a white edge here and along

This side here so i feel like it sticks out a little bit so maybe if you played around with the texturing of it and just used this regular granite here instead of this one i feel like it would mesh well together i like the detailing down here you have these awnings here little

Places to sit lots of greenery that looks very nice little indents here even though you could have done a flat wall but you didn’t which i appreciate and i like how you’re not going overboard with the details up here on the windows these are nice and simple nice and clean the

Colors work well together and i think it looks really good here’s a picture of the inside as well looks really interesting again i’m not super familiar with default so i can’t comment too much on it but i i like the models here yeah it looks cool All right next up we have some city stuff here this is really cool lots of neat roads i see you have lots of elevation changes which i appreciate you have some stuff going on down here where you can go underneath these roads cool buildings nice curves i appreciate that

This part of this build here is centered around this circle i did that with one of my builds and it turned out really well so i’m glad somebody else is doing it too lots of great color coordination going on here so it’s mostly gray and white and then you have lots of greenery

Here and then you have all your yellow lines and the brown wood of the trees just to compliment it here’s another picture down here looks really cool lots of details i love the cars seating umbrellas you have this walkway up here going over the street it’s a nice detail

Your stairs going up here i think it looks really nice and then there’s this incredible church that’s extremely impressive i don’t know how to do that i have a friend that knows how to do churches very well but i do not i feel like this is a replica of a real life

Church i should probably know which one it is i appreciate that you have your flying buttresses over here these really cool arched windows and then all these little details here this is really good work you have some roads here too that looks really impressive i can tell that

These highway curves were done the right way as well because you have this nice curve coming in here and then there’s an inside radius probably from somewhere around here with your center point radius one radius two and then all the other radio radii radiuses radii with your lines coming around the corner here

Very well planned and very well done here’s another view of it lots of elevation changes i really appreciate that lots of greenery yeah no i think it looks awesome another view of the church nice apartment building here i love the texturing on it it’s really well done if

You’re really good at texturing i want to know how you do it because i’m genuinely curious the one thing that i do notice about texturing is that if it’s done well enough your eyes kind of skim over it and it looks a lot more realistic so i noticed you have it here

And then i just noticed you have it down here and on this face here as well i like the height of this tree too it’s not too short it’s not too tall but it gives a good sense of scale to the build and then here’s a couple more pictures

Here your highways and buildings and then this really cool picture i love that there’s so many details you have all the little people down here it really makes your build come alive all right so here’s some interior it looks like a restaurant you have the little

Dividers here and then my guess is right behind these trapdoors on the floor here there’s likely a walkway so if you lined up these lights with your walkway i think it would work a little bit better for the distribution of light the colors look good though mostly gray

And then you have your i think it’s what is that prismarine and then your dark wood here and it works well with the color of the lights around the edges so the colors all work well together here’s another picture of the same builds i like these light fixtures a little bit

Better so maybe if you wanted to use these over on this one it might add a little bit more detail i like the artwork i like this spot back here this nice little green wall i think it looks pretty cool and then this part looks like a clothing shop i like your

Lighting here this is really cool i should do more stuff like this you have your clothing down on here and then up against the wall yeah i think this looks really cool all right we have a city i like that i see that you put a lot of

Work into this it looks really good your building heights are all very consistent which is nice i see you have a pedestrian walkway down here i appreciate that you have all your hvac on top you have this textured over here all your little details on the roofs

Yeah it looks great so i have two things i want to point out to you one of them is going to be pretty hard to change since you already have your city in place uh but maybe for next time i can’t tell how wide these lanes are down here

But i would recommend having them at least four or five wide i think right now they’re three but if you have them a little bit wider i think it’s gonna help it look a little bit better actually never mind i have three things your dotted yellow lines i might try and make

Those three long and then a gap of five or six instead of having two one two or maybe it’s three one three it’s kinda hard to tell but just a small detail so the third thing i see you have lots of trees here but i would recommend adding

Even more trees so maybe if you wanted to right here along this edge maybe add some trees and then all the way down here i know there’s a lot of european cities that don’t really have a whole lot of trees in the city center but if you’d like to that’s something that i

Would add we have some nice-looking shops here i like these so i don’t have any comments about the actual builds themselves i think they look pretty good uh one thing though this sidewalk it’s it’s nothing bad but this is something that i don’t really see too often anymore it’s these

Sidewalks that are half slabs rather than a full block the advantage to using half slabs instead of full blocks for your sidewalks is that you get this little lip right here that goes up into your buildings rather than having to put an entire stair to go up into the

Buildings if you use a full block i think they look great i think your colors are fantastic and honestly i wouldn’t change anything about the builds alright they also posted some houses they look really nice i like them nice cozy little houses tucked up in the trees yeah they look great and then

There’s a couple more down here i’m curious what texture pack this is this looks really cool okay next we have a person with an interesting discord username and they built this skyscraper i really like it their proportions work very well together you have these cool

Roof lines up here and you can tell that there was a lot of thought put into this build rather than just being thrown together i like how they lined up these windows with the top of this build here i don’t know if it’s the same build or

If it’s a separate building but either way it’s very well done and i like that at the very top they have this tiny little arch here and then they have another layer of windows and then they have their top section okay next we have these here i believe it’s using the same

Texture pack as the one two builds ago i really like this pack it’s really cool i love that you guys made the dormers here that looks awesome i like to use this trick with my windows 2. so essentially what you do is you indent your windows

By one and then you have trap doors lining this side and this side but none on the bottom and none on the top and then you have your glass behind it so it makes it look like there’s window trim when there’s really not see they used the same trick here so trapdoors here

Trapdoors here and then you have i’m assuming this is a fence gate here and here and then another one in the middle and then at least in cubepack you have to power them to push them up against the side otherwise they’re going to be in the

Middle of the block but i don’t know this texture pack so i can’t speak for it some other pictures here up close it looks really cool i like it little duplex yeah it looks nice and then you have these shops here if you guys have a

Server or something then drop an ip and maybe i’ll check it out sometime yeah yeah yeah i’m working on it i had midterms leave me alone okay we have a skyscraper here nice tiered skyscraper one here one here one here one here then you have the top here i think that looks

Great cool little design at the top here and then you have a spire okay i just realized it this is a miniature build so it’s not actually a full scale so this is one block that’s another one that’s another one right there and i didn’t clue in until just now we have some

Builders and specialists on cube that built a miniature city as well which also fooled me so you got me a second time oh wow oh that looks really cool oh you have the blur and everything you have some awesome texturing back here lots of really awesome shapes lots of

Cool texturing up here and i like how you transition from a double pattern down to more of a randomized pattern down here i think that looks really cool and then you have this more yellow and brown color in sets here and down here i think that looks really nice and then

Paste them use them however you want another view down here lots of water i like that i love this urban space down here too if i lived around here i would spend so much time here you know walk down here grab a book bring a coffee and

Just enjoy the waterfront yeah this is awesome All right we’re jumping into the shader picks here wow this is impressive these buildings all look like they’re based on something from real life like the amount of detail especially like this one here to even get to this level of building especially in default this takes years of practice to do i

Love the small details back here you have your windows you have your air conditioners stuff like that very animated at street level even more details up here you have your windows more air conditioners this cool building back here in the distance i like that i love this building back here the bricks

The sandstone and then this green up here the colors work really well together and then the trees just tie it all together and then we have a second picture down here with another angle this is great i love this is this one on a server too if it is can you guys drop

An ip in the description i’d like to check it out at some point it kind of feels a little bit familiar and i don’t know why we have a nice clean tower here i like that it’s a cool logo the design is simple but it works really well

Together builds like this they they look relatively easy to make but then when you try and build them you’ll notice that there’s a lot of problems that you didn’t realize that you ever would have had and then it slowly becomes pretty difficult to actually figure out how

They’re designed but i like it you have your vertical elements you have these patterns here and you can tell where the floors intersect we have a nice build here i like that you have the vertical elements you have your arm reaching out here then you have your telecommunication equipment up on top

Here so one recommendation right off the bat is i can see right into here i can see where your floors are divided you want to be able to see where your floors are divided but preferably that division is made on the glass facade rather than looking through the glass and inside so

There’s two little recommendations that i can make so i believe here and here it’s two blocks in between floors which is good so maybe on the stone here between here and here for each one maybe on the bottom one you could do an upside down stair so that instead of having two

Blocks here it looks like it’s one and a half and then my second suggestion is maybe on the glass you can make it look like there’s a line going here and here maybe with a different type of glass so if this is dark gray glass maybe you

Could use a light gray there but if you think that looks weird you could also change these vertical fins to maybe a different color so either a lighter or darker color i like the base it looks nice it looks like all your supports from your tower go straight down here

And then don’t disappear which is nice i like the logo here up top i like your hvac equipment i love that you have your elevator and stair overrun that’s really good and then your interior looks really nice as well i like your computers here i like that you have a mouse the details

Make it look really nice all right we have an aircraft carrier up next this is insane i love how you did this rendered looks really cool i love the planes too what are these f-15s i think there’s so many little details really really well done i like the radar you have all your

Ladders going up here and right here as well i’m not super familiar with how an aircraft carrier works but as far as i can tell it looks like you nailed it nice view from the inside looking out then another view here this is impressive i like this all right we have

This bit of a city here i like the park back here greenery and water are a nice addition to any city i see you’ve got some houses down here that looks really cool and then you have this neat road pattern down here a little store over

Here yeah it looks awesome so i have a couple recommendations for you i would recommend maybe adding some lines on your street and added some street lights and if you’d like along the side of your road on your sidewalk or beside your sidewalk you can start adding some trees

As well here’s another picture of it i like that you have a river coming through here this is awesome and it looks like you’re building all of this by hand too which is really impressive i’m excited to see how this downtown over here starts progressing as well so

Yeah just a couple details for you but you’re well on your way Next up we have this build here this is really impressive i always forget how detailed you can make things in default probably because i haven’t used default in a while but this is great you have nice depth here you have a depth of one coming in here and all of your columns

Little arches here that’s very nice your window overhangs provide a nice detail i like that you split them up here and i like that you have the consistent vertical elements with your end rods coming all the way down here lots of glass on your first floor so it feels

Very inviting and then i like this section up top that’s awesome here’s a view of the back of it that’s very nice a view of the side i like this house here this feels like it would be the perfect survival world that’s kind of the feeling i’m getting from it and then

A picture of down in the courtyard it’s very cozy i like this i’m not super familiar with the style but if you wanted to you might be able to add a tree in here but again that’s up to you and then a couple more views from the

Side and then one at night okay we have some condos and apartment buildings looks really cool i love the balconies that’s nice it’s a nice complex shape i’m assuming your roof here is not done yet i love that as you go up you get different units you’ve probably noticed

In my builds i’m guilty of this i make one floor and then i stack it and then maybe i’ll change a couple up top but i really appreciate when people have the patience to do stuff like this where you have tears going up and every floor on

The top is different as you go and then here’s some more pictures of it here’s it from another side one thing i might recommend is down here on your first floor i like that you have glass but i’d probably change this from glass blocks to glass panes and then i know this

Affects your doors here so if you wanted to you could take out the doors completely and just have an open gap and then maybe change the two blocks right up here to something else to signify that it is a doorway that’s just my personal preference i typically don’t

Build with doors nice view from the courtyard in the center here a view from the side here i think that looks really good and then another one here yeah great job okay i see their message here so it’s an almost perfect one-to-one representation of a residential building

Called truck trachea sorry i don’t know how to say that sky in bulgaria yeah replicas are hard to do so i think you know this looks really good Okay next up wow okay that looks crazy how do you even render this you have to have some like crazy lighting software do this every time i try and render something it doesn’t look nearly as good you might have to give me a crash course look at the fabric wow even just looking

At the detail on this fabric i don’t know how you do this this is crazy you have the little candles lots of flowers and vases this is awesome i’m curious if there’s people that know how to build like this how do you get started because i know how to make buildings from start

To finish but i don’t know how to make stuff like this okay next build here this looks really cool i like the corners here the use of stairs that’s really nice good depth you have your window overhangs and then you have your depth in here and you can see that

They’re using the trick where they put trap doors here and then they indent it and then they put the glass i love the arch that’s really nice and i love what you did with the doorway too so you step up by one you walk in here and then your

Door is set back a little bit and then you have these trapdoors here over top to protect you from the rain i love the detailing up here with the wall that looks really cool and then the roof is really cool as well i like the dormer

Here too okay next we have a city on bedrock this looks really cool i like this nice depth here i like that you can visually separate the floors here that’s nice you have your windows i love that it changes up top here that’s really cool i like the corner windows this

Would be a nice condo right here especially if this was your living room down here i’m not sure how i feel about the blue glass i feel like it clashes a little bit too much maybe try experimenting with either some regular glass or some gray glass since you have

Sort of a gray theme going on here same thing with these ones here otherwise i think it looks really good i see you have some cool car models back here too and a stop sign oh that’s interesting here’s another picture of the city that looks really cool i like that lots of

Places on your street front here for people to stop in and maybe go to a restaurant or check out the stores i see a little truck here i see your roads down here if you wanted i have a video about curved roads if you’d like to work

On that a little bit more just for these down here and then maybe this one i like that you changed up the color of the sidewalk here too it makes it a little bit more interesting lots of elevation changes which is really nice it adds so

Much to a city when you can do this so you have this area down here and then it goes up the hill right until here the buildings look great i see you have some fire escapes here and i really appreciate that they’re not identical

Going all the way up i think it adds a lot i like this roofline here too i think that looks really nice great easy space down here instead of just having a concrete block down here i love that you made use out of it and made it into a

Building and then here’s the last picture i like that you have your air conditioning units here or maybe they’re bushes i i can’t tell but either way i like it and you have this sort of diagonal building it’s nice to add a diagonal building in your city every
