Which minecraft update do you think was the most controversial probably the 1.9 combat update or maybe even the introduction of phantoms in 1.13 but neither of these even comes close to the update released in september of 2011. the beta 1.8 adventure update this update compared to the others that came Prior was massive changes were made to almost every aspect of the gameplay which included a complete overhaul to the terrain generation a new title screen sprinting new bow mechanics the addition of experience points and of course the player hunger system and this right here the hunger bar was where a Lot of the controversy was in every previous version of minecraft food and hunger worked a lot differently by simply right clicking on a piece of food it would instantly recover your health no hunger bar to worry about it was very straightforward and many minecraft players at the time got used To this system very quickly but once beta 1.8 was released a new hunger system came with it food no longer healed hearts directly but instead filled your hunger bar which then slowly regenerated your health you would lose hunger by sprinting jumping and getting hurt and if your hunger bar went to zero You’d slowly start taking damage but to many the hunger bar seemed like more of an annoyance than a challenge in previous versions of minecraft you were rewarded for not taking damage by permanently keeping your health regardless of what you did in the game but in beta 1.8 doing really anything Would require you to constantly eat but it wasn’t all that bad as it seemed for a few reasons alongside the new hunger system food started to become stackable which wasn’t possible in earlier releases but the biggest and most favorable change was the introduction of sprinting if you Wanted to sprint it would consume your hunger simple as that so players did kind of actually have a choice with this new system but of course jumping would also make you lose a bit of hunger too now of course this hunger system wasn’t perfect in fact it took multiple years To fine tune some of the issues that the hunger system had but today we do have a pretty solid hunger system now for the other part of the beta 1.8 update that made it so controversial the new terrain generation to many when the beta 1.8 terrain was compared to beta 1.7 it Seemed a lot more boring everything just looks smoother and more polished at first this may seem like a good thing but the issue is that if the terrain looks too smooth and too polished it starts to lack character this minecraft forum post sums it up pretty well you Can see how for example these cliffs look a lot more impressive when compared to the new extreme hills biome introduced in beta 1.8 and that’s the other thing you could only find extreme hills in extreme hills biomes in previous versions terrain like this could generate in really any biome which Made the old school terrain that much more interesting and don’t even get me started about the endless oceans in this new version as you get farther from the spawn point the likelihood of the biome being ocean will only increase up until a point when finding normal flat terrain became insanely rare some People actually enjoyed this change as it sparked a sense of adventure but for others not so much you see oceans were sometimes so large that they would span as much as a hundred thousand blocks one could spend multiple hours holding down the w key just to find a new landmass And of course this was very frustrating for many something had to be done so a few years later in 2013 minecraft 1.7 was released which overhauled the terrain generation yet again this fixed many issues that the old world generation had along with adding lots of new features First of all many new biomes were added and most importantly every biome now had something called an m variant which stands for modified or mountains just like the old beta 1.7.3 terrain all biomes can now have a taller and more extreme variant that can create really interesting structures oceans were also Reduced in size finally dropping the concept of continental terrain this new world generator of course isn’t the same as the old beta versions but is certainly a fantastic improvement that is arguably much better than any terrain generator minecraft has ever had some call beta 1.8 the cutoff point Between old and new minecraft and i can certainly see the reasoning behind that so much about the game and just one update had changed that’s also probably why the old school minecraft community prefers beta 1.7.3 as the version to play if you want the true old school minecraft experience So what do you think was the beta 1.8 update really all that bad how would you compare it to the controversy that the 1.9 combat update brought let me know what you think in the comments now don’t mind me i’m just crossing this ocean to look for an ice plains biome it Shouldn’t take too long maybe i should have at least brought some popcorn you Video Information
