Ranking the best minecraft building blocks as you can see behind me i’ve got 36 different building blocks split up into four different categories and yes these are my personal favorite building blocks in the entire game got nine here from the wood category and yes i know The trapdoor is not a full block but people use it all the time so i’m counting it anyways got nine here from the stone category my nine favorite like dirt and sand like sedimentary related blocks all right here and the nine like miscellaneous categories we’ve got some Organic blocks in here got some metal blocks got some other weird strange things that you can’t really categorize into one of the other three over here if you’ve seen my previous ranking videos you will know that there’s actually normally an f tier here for uh the blocks that are cringe but because we’re Doing like an all-star best of the best round this time around i just went and removed f-tier entirely none of these blocks are cringe i like all of these on top of that i’ve changed up our categories starting from s tier we’ve got best of the best a tier is amazing b Tier is very good and c tier is still good but i like the other ones more i really really love all of these guys which means it’s gonna be really really difficult to try and figure out which ones of these i like more so yeah this Is gonna be a bit of a tough one first of all we’ve got our wood blocks pretty much everybody will use these textures a whole lot in their builds they’re all really easy to get in survival with the exception of maybe the beehive but i suppose we have to start somewhere so Spruce planks oh boy and this is going to be difficult because in any other ranking video spruce planks would just like instantly shoot up to esteer but then again all of these blocks would pretty much go straight up to s-tier so uh gonna have to figure out something Different gonna have to be a little bit more picky this time around in some situations they do kind of get overshadowed by either the dark oak or the oak planks which admittedly are not on this ranking picking nine out of all the different wood blocks was incredibly Difficult by the way but yeah spruce planks are great they’re a really nice middle ground between oak and dark oak of course they’re very easy to get in survival very very versatile but it’s not always my favorite you know i think it’s gonna lose a couple very very small Points for like originality here because chances are if you’re trying to do some more advanced building and maybe working with some more funky colors you might go for a different plank color other than spruce because that dark brown is so just kind of vanilla you know but it’s Still a fantastic block so it’s going to be going in top of a tear you my friend are amazing and since we just briefly touched upon it we might as well talk about the dark oak planks similar to spruce right like i think they have a little bit more originality and Uniqueness to them maybe just because they haven’t been in the game as long they’re just an all-around really solid block they’re incredibly versatile incredibly easy to get i can’t say that for every single one of these blocks as like a positive because they all are i’m really trying to like switch my mental State here and be really really nitpicky because it’s really not in my nature to be this like nitpicky about textures you know but that’s kind of what i have to do when i’m doing this like best of the best ranking here so dark oak planks i Think are going to be going in a tier as well actually underneath the spruce though okay moving on to the logs here we got the strip dark oak log this thing is so fantastic it’s got some of the darkness issues of the dark oak planks but it’s definitely a bit lower contrast It’s definitely a little bit brighter as well and the texture unlike the planks is definitely a lot smoother and cleaner you know it’s not quite as messy as the plank texture and the plank textures aren’t very messy don’t get me wrong but the stripped wood is generally very clean and just Very very easy to work with and for that i’m gonna put it in a tier as well okay regular dark oak wood i know the dark oak is really taken over this category here with one third of all these blocks just being from dark oak wood this stuff Is fantastic really any build that uses wood which is like basically all of them can use dark oak wood in some way of course it’s not quite as clean as the stripped version but if you want like a dark bark texture dark oak wood really is your go-to if we’re gonna compare it To some similar blocks like the mangrove and the spruce first of all mangrove is definitely a lot harder to find in survival and as for spruce i mean these guys are very common as well but i think that this being desaturated makes it just a little bit more versatile spruce Is really really great don’t get me wrong and it just barely didn’t make the cut for this video but when compared to dark oak i think the little bit more like brownish redness of the spruce just barely keeps it out of the top nine here So that’s all fine and good but to be honest i kind of can’t really put this guy in the higher most tiers something about it just the vibes are off you know the vibes i mean the vibes are on but they’re like ever so slightly not entirely on This is a very hard video to make all of these blocks are really good so when i go ahead and i put the dark oak wooden beet here it’s like i’m not saying dark oak wood is bad it’s really really really good but we’ve got so many more Blocks to rank and if i just start putting all of these in a tier and s tier we’re gonna have some problems the stripped oak in a similar vein like it’s once again a very very very very very good texture but it’s like something about it is not perfect and i can’t put My finger on it i’m making like a weird x here i’m not sure what i’m doing i think that the specific shade of beige that the stripped oak wood has i don’t know it just doesn’t always seem like it would be the most practical i feel like If you’re going for a very light stripped color there are definitely a lot of situations in which birch is gonna be more fitting with the color palette than oak so yeah i think the stripped oak is actually gonna go bottom of bead here moving on to the Last four we got the bookshelf beehive spruce trap door and the barrel bookshelves are really really great and colorful and vibrant and just really brighten up basically any build you add them to but they’re definitely a lot less versatile than most other blocks behind me right here so they gotta go in Seat here beehives have a similar fate where i absolutely love the top texture and the side texture is really nice for like covers and stuff but once again all these blocks behind me have like just general minecraft building versatility and even though i love these two like Wood decor blocks they’re some of my favorite wood decor blocks they’re just wood decor blocks you’re not going to fit them in like every single different build style every single different color palette so the beehives unfortunately have to go in sea tier as well spruce trapdoor i think you already know i Wrote a poem about this block this block is beauty this block is grace this block is just perfection even among all these other beautiful fantastic block textures the spruce trap door stands out amongst the rest you my friend rs tier best of the best right there and last but not least in the Woods section the barrel the three different texture faces on this thing are like honestly so so cool we got of course the top texture the side texture and if i like bury myself down here real quick you can see the bottom texture blends in with spruce very well which Makes it incredibly versatile in wood builds but like the bookshelf and the beehive it’s still just a decor block i think it’s a little bit more than just your regular old decor block so i’m not going to put it in c tier thankfully but It is going to go in b tier okay that was difficult you guys know i love my wood blocks if you’re watching my hardcore series basically everything i make is like entirely either wood blocks or mushrooms and i’m having a blast so do go check That out if you get the chance but we have to move on so we’re looking at the stones now and starting with the bottom we’ve got stone literally it’s like one of the most iconic minecraft blocks it’s gonna lose a little bit of points just for its kind of genericness and once Again i hate to you know hate on a block that’s as iconic as the stone block but if you’re building with stone it’s literally just stone it’s just gray it’s not even like andesite which is like the cooler stone in some way it’s like that one meme you know it’s like the daniel The cooler daniel it’s like stone and andesite so i think stone is probably going in bottom of eight here and speaking of anacite i think that one’s gonna go in s tier actually and decided me we’re good buddies look at us polished insight on the other hand it’s A nice block don’t get me wrong i really really wish the textures would connect i find very often that i can’t use a lot of it together because i don’t really like those weird little grooves and how they connect with each other so i think polished andesite’s probably gonna be Our next sea tier good block but it’s got a couple very very minor flaws okay much like the dark oak we’ve got an entire row taken up just by deep slate the reason i’m going with regular deep slate and not polished deep slate is purely just because of the two different Textures first of all i like this kind of more craggly more rough texture more and then on the other hand the top texture of the steep plate is like smoother in a weird way it’s lighter which is nice in my opinion any sort of like old timey stone road would look a Little bit better with the top texture of the deep slate here as opposed to the cobbled but of course requiring silk touch to get it means it’s a little bit less survival friendly than some of these like you know stone and dirt and whatever and wood planks and on top of That it’s a little messy you know and because of that messiness you can’t really sneak it into a lot of builds where you wouldn’t really want to see stone for example like other deep slate blocks like tiles which by the way is going to be going in s tier because i Really really love that block like deep slate tiles even though it’s obviously stone you could use this in like a sci-fi setting where you wouldn’t necessarily want to see stone but you want to see something more like dark and metallic you know regular deep slate doesn’t do that which is why regular Deep slate isn’t b-tier and tiles are an s-tier polished deep slate on the other hand basically all of my same praises for deep slate tiles can apply to polish deep slate but we also get the same problem with the polished andesite where you know it’s got that annoying groove Texture on it which i understand that’s just an artistic design choice but sometimes i find myself fighting with it so it’s actually gonna go in a tier bottom of a tier though okay last three in the stone category we’ve got blackstone basalt and calcite blackstone is definitely a very very nice texture Of course you have to go to the nether to get it so it’s just a tiny bit less survival friendly than some other blocks in this video it’s definitely very nice as like a tire tread or an asphalt texture which is pretty cool i gotta say But i find that it’s just a tiny bit less versatile than some other blocks here outside of like another themed builds or maybe more industrial like machine focused builds you won’t really see it too too often you know it’s not quite dark enough to be like a black Background like black concrete is but it’s still a little bit too dark to be more versatile than that hopefully i’m making sense here it’s kind of hard to describe a lot of these things but all that you need to know is that black stone is top of meteor basalt on the Other hand this this block is very cool the side texture can be rotated and then you’ve got of course a different texture on the side than on the top i think it’s great in a lot of pathways and streets mainly the top texture because this goes very well with this and this It’s definitely got like a soft spot in my heart for whatever reason something in bottom of a tier 4 basalt calcite on the other hand is a very very cool definitely like upgraded version of diorite thyroid’s fine it’s definitely not my least favorite block in the game But i’m sure we can agree it’s got some issues the main of which being that it’s a very messy very high contrast texture calcite is almost like if you took diorite and just took like a spoon and just smoothed over all the roughness with like the butt end of a spoon and Then it became like this lovely little softer very much cleaner texture it’s got a lot of the same colors but of course it’s a little bit lighter and smoother and everything is just very very nice but unfortunately because it’s a white texture it’s not going to fit Into every color palette i mean of course white is a neutral color is going to blend in with a lot of things but not necessarily every single build style out there so i’m thinking actually seat here as well for calcite all right that is all of our stone textures taken care of We’re on to our third category which is our sedimentary things so starting with the top three we’ve got coarse dirt we’ve got podzol and we’ve got grass coarse dirt is fantastic it blends very well with dirt of course and i find putting foliage on it can actually look Really really nice as well it’s very easy to make basically any time you’re working with like normal grassy dirty ground which is basically every minecraft build unless you’re building like the nether or in the end or underwater or something actually no even underwater you could use coarse turd who Am i kidding this block is fantastic bestier podzill i really like this block and i and in the past i’ve showered this block with unnecessary amount of praise for being funny i guess it’s kind of like the meme block and you know it landed a spot on Here just for being positive really and being surprisingly useful i think using puzzle in a build is definitely unexpected enough or i’d go like oh wow interesting choice there buddy but let’s be honest this block doesn’t quite hold a candle to most of the other blocks in This video i’m thinking c tier as well unfortunately i’m sorry puzzle i really am i love you so much but you got some tough competition here let’s be real and last but definitely not least we’ve got our grass block which is kind of already everywhere so uh putting it down feels a Little bit redundant the face of minecraft it is a staple of every minecraft world everywhere you look you cannot help but touch grass which is a little bit terrifying let’s be honest here of course it’s definitely by no means an original pick i mean this is probably the least original block you Could use in your builds with the exception of maybe stone and of course it’s usually locked behind so touch unless you like spread it manually or get very lucky with an enderman kill but it’s still pretty dang great top of a tier now brown concrete powder might Be a bit of an unusual pick you might be wondering how that possibly could have ended up on my list of the best of the best building blocks but hear me out you can mix this brown concrete powder with like coarse dirt path blocks rooted dirt Even like moss and grass and i think it’s a very nice compliment and combine that with the fact that brown dye is very easy to get a lot of as long as you just find a jungle biome but of course it’s very much limited to like dirty earthy black palettes and whatever it Doesn’t have this like grand sweeping versatility that some of these other textures have so it is going in beetier the light gray and the gray concrete powder are very similar personally i like gray more i think it’s very nice as like a city road street asphalty kind of thing you know What i’m talking about the light gray concrete powder can blend with like stone and light gray wool and andesite pretty well which is pretty cool i’ll give it points for that and they’re both going to be going in a tier oh well that one’s already there I placed that one a tier okay bottom three starting off with white terracotta once again like with the brown concrete powder you might be wondering why i picked white terracotta and i don’t know something about this block i think just works very well with bricks like mainly The grout color here can look really well with white terracotta it’s just a very unique color cyan terracotta is nice but of course it’s very dull and we already have plenty of gray blocks on this list so i kind of didn’t want to include one more so i went with white Sometimes you gotta have a couple picks out of left field you know and this block is gonna be going in sea tier i know i just said a lot of cool things about it but let’s be honest it’s not the most versatile thing in the world bricks i mean very strange texture to Have in this best of the best rankings because of course it’s a very messy texture bricks look like bricks and they don’t really look like anything else but i love using bricks they’re so so nice really lovely warm earthy vibes these are actually going to be going in b-tier Packed mud i think this is actually the only block in this entire video which is from 1.19 as of the time of recording this is the newest minecraft update i have like seriously rapidly fallen in love with this block it’s great with the brown mushroom block which is also one Of my favorites as you can see right here it’s behind me not very hard to make just one mud and one wheat it’s an all-around fantastic block top of atia right there and that my friends is all of our sedimentary blocks which means we’re moving on to the fourth and final Category which is our miscellaneous oddities starting off with our two shades of copper down in the bottom we’ve got the regular kind and the oxidized kind now real quick of course first things off the bat the oxidized version definitely loses a couple points for taking a very long time to actually You know obtain the texture is really really really cool by itself but that bluish green hue is not always the most useful thing so i’m actually going to be putting it in b-tier regular copper on the other hand is much more useful in machinery builds in my opinion and the Orange works well with acacia wood it works well with red sandstone works very well with terracotta and shroom lights there is just a lot of really really good like reddish orange rust-colored hues in this game the regular copper is a really great addition to that this is actually going in s-tier finishing off This bottom row with the quartz specifically the smooth quartz i mean you know regular quartz is fine but like i was explaining before with the polished blocks it’s got that annoying groove texture that i just don’t always want to deal with of course it’s a little bit harder to obtain because you Gotta go to the nether then you gotta actually craft up the quartz then you gotta smell the quartz but it’s worth it because this block is great i would probably put it in beetier who doesn’t love moss this block is great it goes well with grass as i Showed off earlier it goes well with really any kind of like pathway foot trail kind of earthy ground block palette you got going on so easy to get so easy to break you can farm it it makes bone meal this block is an instant s tear let’s be honest here moss you are Best of the best the mushroom blocks on the other hand well specifically the stem block and the brown mushroom block you know it’s not something you always necessarily gravitate to in survival you know they’re a little bit hard to get without so touch you can’t get them and You have to go to a dark oak forest or manually grow up your mushrooms which is always a little annoying so i get why people don’t really use them or kind of sleep on these blocks but they’re so underrated first of all the stem block is a really cool Smooth muted off-white hue of course it looks great as a mushroom stem and you can use it with other white blocks like calcite and diorite and white concrete powder maybe it’s also really nice as a wall that’s an atr block right there the brown mushroom block is also very nice Once again very muted very de-saturated brown very smooth goes well with the packed mud and with the brown concrete powder and whatnot but because it’s brown definitely is ever so slightly less versatile so i’m gonna put it in top of b-tier okay last three blocks of the video we’re almost done guys thank You for sticking around this far and i really really appreciate that let’s finish this up real quick shroom light amazing favorite light block in the game very hard to farm unfortunately but look at this thing it’s so nice bottom of s tier for sure azalea leaves my personal Favorite leaf block they don’t change color depending on the biome which is fantastic the flowering version is really nice they blend well with moss they blend well with grass usually these guys are great they’re actually going to go in s tier as well and last but not Least tinted glass a little bit hard to get in survival but i love the look and i love the effects you can create by putting stuff behind it or below it or whatever but sometimes you just don’t want to be tinty so it’s going in bottom of b tier look at that cool Little fog effect that is why you are on the list my dude even if you’re only a b tier alrighty guys that is my finished best of the best tier list for all of my favorite building blocks in minecraft i’ll give you guys like an f1 view right Here so you can see the entire thing spruce trap door up at the top looking fantastic as per usual i love to hear
