Hi guys today i’m going to teach you how to set up minecraft for speedrunning i’m going to show you how to get the best speed running client that most speedrunners use many popular clients like optifine bad lion and lunar are banned from speedrunning first thing you Want to do is open up your minecraft launcher once your minecraft launcher is open go to installations and check if you have a 1.16.1 installation if you don’t go to new installation scroll down until you find 1.16.1 and then click create now go back to play change it to 1.16.1 Click play and click proceed this will download the base version of 1.16.1 which we will then mod to make it better for speedrunning speedrunners play in 1.16.1 because piglen brutes weren’t added to the game yet and because the drop rates for ender pearls were lowered in the later versions which Means that 1.16.1 is the fastest version of minecraft to speedrun in now that this is downloaded we can download the speedrunning mods the first thing we have to do is download a bunch of stuff i compiled all the stuff into one folder so it’s easier to download but if that Doesn’t work i linked all the individual mod pages and other stuff you need to download in the description so click on the mega link and then wait for it to open now go to the top right corner and click download as zip now that it’s downloaded go down here Right click on it and click show in folder it’s going to bring you to whatever folder it saved it to and now you can right click on this and click extract all and click extract now you have everything downloaded so click on speed running stuff and now double click on the fabric installer Which will allow you to run the other mods scroll down to 1.16.1 and click install and you have live split which is your timer you have all of the mods that we’re going to need for speed running and then we have a script and the thing that runs the script which will allow You to click one button and reset in your world now i’m going to quickly go over what each mod does first we have lazy dfu which makes minecraft open faster here’s a quick demonstration of it it doesn’t make a huge difference on my computer but on slower computers it Might then we have sodium which is the most important mod of all of these and i’ll tell you what that does and how to set it up later then we have lithium which is a general optimization mod these next three mods allow you to reset really quickly in case you don’t know While speed running when you create a world you want to quickly check if it’s good enough to run and if it isn’t then you exit out of the world and create a new one and repeat so that’s where these three mods come in starlight is a mod that speeds up the world generation Process some older tutorials will tell you to use the mod phosphor but phosphor and starlight are incompatible and since starlight is better you should use starlight the auto reset mod allows you to enter resetting mode where it will skip the world screen and lets you go straight into your next world the fast Reset mod allows you to exit the world without saving which can save you several seconds depending on your computer auto reset mod and fast reset require auto hotkey and the script that you downloaded to work and i’ll show you how to set that up now in your speed Running stuff folder double click on auto hotkey and click on yes now click express installation and let it install now click run auto hotkey and that’s all you need to do now you can exit out of this next in your speed running stuff folder right click on ram Underscore 3.0 and click on edit script now this is the script that you’re going to run but you have to change this and put your saves directory here so what you’re going to do is click windows and r and then type in app data click ok click roaming double click minecraft and Then go to saves and now you’re going to click up here ctrl c to copy it and then go back to here get rid of this paste it in there with control v and then put a backslash right at the end of that now you’re going to click save And then if you scroll down here down here is the hotkey that you’re going to use to reset it’s automatically set to u i want to use j so i’m going to change it to j but you can change it to whichever key you like and then you’re going to click save And now you have your script set up when you run the script the script will create this folder called old worlds and it will move all of your old worlds into this folder so that your worlds page doesn’t get cluttered but if you don’t want a world to be moved into that Folder right click on it click rename and put an underscore right in front of the name and then it won’t be moved alright now click windows and r type in app data click ok click on roaming dot minecraft mods and now if there are any other mods in There delete them or move them somewhere else out of the folder because they may interfere with these mods now drag all of your mods into the folder before we open minecraft go back to your dot minecraft and then scroll down and find options.txt right click on options.txt click edit And now find gamma now change the one to a five click save and now we’re ready to open minecraft the official rules of minecraft speedrunning allow you to increase your brightness to 500 percent this will allow you to see caves better and more importantly it makes it easier to see Things like shipwrecks underwater and now we can start up minecraft so open your minecraft launcher go to installations click new installation give it a name i’m going to name it speed running go to version now you’re going to scroll down until you find fabric loader 1.16.1 down here you can Set your resolution i’m going to set mine to 1920 by 1080 and if you click more options you can right here you can adjust your ram so i’m gonna allow eight gigabytes of ram to be used by minecraft so that it runs a little faster and then you can click create So now go back to play click down here open up your speed running and now click play and now double click on your script to start it and it should look like this it’ll have this little icon right here if you click on this it’ll bring you Into a reset session and so it’ll start up worlds and then once those worlds are started all you have to do is check them see if they’re good if it isn’t good click whatever key you set your hotkey to be in my case i set it to j and then It’ll really quickly bring you into the next world if you click save and quit to title it’ll start you into another world so what you have to do to get out of it is you go to options stop resets and quit now that we’re in minecraft go to Options video settings quality and turn entity distance all the way up to five hundred percent then go to advanced and turn entity culling off both of those will allow us to erade later now go to unofficial and turn planar fog on this will allow us to see further in the nether and Click apply planar fog is allowed in speedrunning because some graphics cards have planar fog built into them so to make it fair for everyone the speedrun mods allow you to use a client that has planar fog built in that client is sodium also go into options music and Sounds and turn subtitles on this will help you find lava and other stuff using sound while speedrunning you should use quake pro because it lets you see further around you next let’s set up the timer double click on live split and scroll down to livesplit.exe double click on that and Then click yes the timer should pop up right click on the timer and click settings and change the start and reset buttons to whatever you want them to be then check the global hotkeys button and click ok right click on it again and click edit splits type minecraft into the game name click Java edition and click activate and then click ok now right click again and click edit layout now we’re going to add a second timer by clicking on the plus clicking timer and going to timer and clicking that and now we’re going to double click on the top one and change it from Current timing method to real time and click ok and then double click on the bottom one and change it from current timing method to game time now we’re going to add text by going plus information text and we’re going to move that up to the top and We’re going to make it say real time and click ok and then we’re going to go information text put it in between the two and make it say game time and click ok and now when we click ok here this is what your timer will look like finally You need something to record your speed runs i use streamlabs obs to record my runs but you can use any recording software that you want and that’s how you set
