Hello everyone my name is pixariffs and welcome back to the minecraft survival guide i hope you guys are having a good day we’re starting off today’s episode outside of the hogland farm that we built in yesterday’s episode and we still have a lot of work to do in this area I have been doing a little bit more buttoning of the surrounding landscape today i’ve done a fair amount of the crimson forest over here there’s still a lot more verticality to be considered there are a lot of floating islands and land masses up here which need a little Bit more attention but i think we are making a little bit of progress on that and we should hopefully see some pretty good results from the farm soon we’ve had a couple of stacks of pork chops coming already which is looking pretty good and today i Feel like taking on a project of a slightly different kind something that’s not gonna just me be me driving myself mad by placing buttons all of the time so i’m gonna fly out and find myself one of the treasure room bastions that we’ve already raided Earlier in the series and i think we are going to take it over and turn it into a kind of nether base because i don’t really have a base as such in the nether right now i have my near the hub of course and a few transport Connections out to other places in the world but if my nether survival experience from earlier in this month has proven anything it is that living in the nether is actually quite sustainable now and i think it’d be kind of fun to set up a place That we can call our own i think it’ll also be quite fun as something to do in this update to renovate some of the bastion structures because they are still after all remnants of a previous civilization and i think it’d be kind of fun to see How a bastion would look if it was fully renovated and all of those crumbling pathways were restored to their former glory so we’re gonna head out to the west i just checked the compass point over there to make sure this was west without having to uh load up my f3 Screen yes i think we’re gonna head out west i think that is where i’ve seen the most close by of the treasure bastions and we are hopefully going to be able to find one in relatively close proximity to the nether hub here so we can make a Nice easy couple of trips back and forth before i do that though i am going to grab myself a few more fireworks and drop off a couple of the supplies that i’ve been shifting around as i’ve been working on the hogland farm so heading out in a westerly direction We’re hitting new terrain here which is very good i have a feeling that one of the treasure room bastions was relatively close to this area around here probably within maybe 500 to a thousand blocks of where i am right now so i’m just flying around a little bit trying to find it And running into gusts aplenty as i do but these large open lava lakes i think are where we ended up finding one of the treasure room bastions so i’m just gonna skim around here and see if i can find it i brought a few supplies with me in a couple of shulker Boxes as well so we can get right to building once we’re there and i have some pretty fun ideas for renovating the interior of the bastion where all of those crumbling and broken down bridges reside here we go this is the one i was looking for what Are the coordinates of this one again it is negative 1640 89 so really not that far out we could make a more direct connection from the nether hub if i felt like building a 1600 block long bridge in the nether but i think we are going to be clearing this thing out Today and that does mean a fair amount of piglen fighting but that should be fine i’m not actually sure although i could probably just look this up on the minecraft wiki but i’m interested in demonstrating it here myself if the piglens that spawn with this structure will respawn i have a feeling That they do because presumably if we ended up flying away and coming back they would have despawned and respawned in different places unless they are tagged to not despawn in the same way that vindicators in woodland mansions are so i’m gonna get some piglets kind of mad at me by uh Throwing a few arrows in their direction here and there and we can kind of watch them watch them all try and struggle to get to me and drop off into the lava which is actually kind of bizarre and fun to watch i do like that the outsides of These bastions have this kind of open staircase feel to them like it feels like a cross section of this building to me but some of the other stuff in these bastions like the the trays of lava down there feel a lot more organized and so what i plan on doing is Probably building up the walls of these so that you can have a closed off interior here and renovating some of the aspects of the bastion which feel a little bit more crumbled and broken down like all of these holes i have a couple of shulker boxes with me one Full of black stone and basalt the other full of crimson and warped stuff and also a little bit of purple as well because i mentioned the other day that black stone and purple actually go pretty well together thanks to some heavily implied purple coloring in the blackstone Texture and so i think it’ll be kind of fun to introduce purple in here it’s also worth noting that the piglins will get mad at you for attacking them but that aggro wears off after about 15 to 30 seconds in the same way it did when we were struggling our way through This stuff in the nether survival series so i think it’s actually pretty safe to attack piglens from a distance and then not expect too many retributions from the other piglets who are nearby so this ramparts section now seems to have been pretty much cleared of piglens We’ve shot a few of them from a distance and i’m not seeing any more spawning up here but it’ll be interesting to see if those respawn once i’ve been back and forth from this structure a couple of times because if they do that means we’ll have To do a little bit more spawn proofing if we want to make this place completely safe from piglens but now i should be able to open up this chest and not aggro any of the piglens in the vicinity because they are all taken care Of we are also right on the edge of a crimson forest and i’m fairly certain yes that we are still technically in a crimson forest biome so regardless of the spawning rules for this structure the crimson forest biome might take over a little bit and start spawning some stuff which is Native to the biome itself with that said i don’t know if we’ve seen hoglands really spawn in these bastion structures all that much unless they are intended to spawn in here by default so maybe the structure has something of an override on the spawning rules for the biome that will be Interesting to observe if we get the opportunity but let’s take a look through these chests and i don’t think i rated these the first time i came to this bastion because i was more concerned about the treasure room on the interior but we got some pretty good stuff here some gilded black stone Bit of gold not bad a snout banner pattern as well and here’s something interesting i have just seen a couple of zombified piglens spawning around here because they will naturally spawn basically anywhere in the nether and bastions do not seem to be an exception to that I wonder now though if i fly away from this and come back if i’m gonna see some more piglets spawning let me fly away a good distance and then we’ll return to check that out and let’s see on my return to the bastion i’m not seeing anything else Spawning in these towers at least not right now which does kind of imply that those are piglens which have spawned with the structure and they will probably not be returning or maybe there is so much other spawnable space around here that the mob cap is already taken up but it does bode Well for us taking over one of these structures that if we end up killing the inhabitants they kind of stay dead i guess and this whole area is feeling a little bit lonesome as is i have a feeling that a lot of the piglets are going to be populating the Lower levels but even so if i fought my way out of here previously it may be that some of the piglets on the lower levels are already dead of course one of the reasons i picked this over the other formation sebastian’s is because of the magma cube spawner which if our Previous experience is anything to go by is probably down underneath this side of the bridge yep there it is okay and we’re within spawning range of it now and it’s generated a few magma cubes they are certainly less dangerous on java edition than they were on bedrock edition initially but i do kind Of think we need to stay out of harm’s way nonetheless don’t want to get pushed into lava by one of these guys and so i’ll be playing it a little bit more cautiously around here but this place already has quite a neat natural flow to it so what i’m thinking Is if we take out the piglen inhabitants inside of here and just leave me the zombie piglens and the magma cube spawner we can actually come up with a pretty fun layout for this interior here so i’m going to go ahead and fight a bunch of piglets off camera we will see How we do but i expect i’ll probably be able to do all right and then we can spend the rest of this episode figuring out what exactly we’re going to do with the layout here so i’ve gone ahead and cleared out all of the piglens from this area the one Remaining problem as you can see is the magma cubes there are so many of these guys and they are spawning in quite large numbers even if it’s just single big magma cubes but then once of course you start breaking them down they start to become lots of little magma cubes and that Presents a bit of a problem the little magma cubes are not all that difficult to take out especially with the sweep attack we have on java edition but they are very very tricky to deal with in larger numbers and i don’t want to just destroy the spawner here because part of My plan for this is of course to do something with that spawner and turn it into an xp farm or a magma cream farm or whatever we want to use it for as you can see lots of xp around here just from dealing with those guys So i think what we’re going to do is we’re going to take the alternate routes with that and we are going to block the entire thing off with some black stone or maybe some basalt or something that we can use to block the entire thing out because if You block the area around the spawner in a nine by nine square centered on the spawner with a block above and a block below so three blocks total in height it should not actually spawn anything because that is the radius in which the mobs will generate it’s not The radius in which the spawner will activate but if it can’t generate them anywhere nearby it’s not going to spawn any magma cubes and from there we can actually start working on the restoration of this bastion without any need to worry about magma cubes jumping on me From behind look at there are so many right now so we’re gonna have to get down there onto the bridge and build out an area around that spawner which is going to prevent them from spawning because magma cubes will spawn in any light level so it’s not Enough to just light up the spawner the way we do with overworld mobs that’s not how the spawner works it is specific to the type of mob it is spawning and it’s a good thing for me that i have an infinity boy because i’m going to spend A little bit of time here just taking out these magma cubes from a distance so that i don’t have to get close enough to the spawner that it starts generating more of them and so that there are a few enough of them around that once i start placing down blocks We’re not going to be interfered with too much as i do but i think the best way to do this aside from that is gonna be to go over to this bridge take out some of the blocks of the bridge so that we expose the spawner and then Place some blocks basically from the top down and that way we will end up with a an area of blocks completely surrounding the spawnable area and nothing will spawn on top of those blocks that is going to then jump up and attack me here we want to go out four blocks in each Direction from the spawner of course and then square those off at the corners so that area of blackstone is now preventing the first two layers of spawns i’m going to take a brief break so that i can take out some of the other magma cubes in the area because The next step is going to be to place in that final nine by nine layer underneath all of that and that’s going to be the lower levels on which magma cubes can spawn and after that we won’t be seeing many magma cubes here for at least a little while And part of the reason you absolutely do not want to spend too much time down here is because like me you may be pushed into into the lava by these magma cubes oh boy i just had to save myself oh interesting nice loot i hope there weren’t any more piglets left In here that i left unkilled but did i not did i not come here before is this a brand new treasure in bastian that i’m only just raiding i have a feeling it might be maybe i’ve only seen this one from a distance anyway yeah i did just have to Splash myself with my emergency fire resistance potion let’s see how much of that i’ve got okay i managed to activate basically the full length of the time that is not bad but yeah i was crouching on one of those blocks over there and i just got knocked into lava By one of the larger magma cubes spawning behind me so you might want to do something a little bit more sensible than this and make the entire area safe for you to walk on first but i sort of didn’t want to remove the lava because we might end up using that for The design of our magma cube farm in a future episode anyway but i guess we can at least block off this area and get to the other side of the spawner where we can now start to fill in the remainder of this space and that should make the entire area spawn proof Against magma cube spawns okay that should be the magma cube spawner completely disabled i actually built one layer above where i think i needed to but it is a little bit more comfortable knowing that that entire thing is wrapped in black stone and should not spawn any more magma cubes From the spawner we may still occasionally see a couple of magma cube spawns naturally but since we’re in a crimson forest biome here i guess we’re in a near the wastes right now so you might see them spawning occasionally but we shouldn’t see them all that often especially compared to All of the other mobs that are in the area like the zombie piglens which are now popping up everywhere in this bastion i think one of the first things i want to do is give myself a little bit of a walkway around the outside of this so We’re going to turn some of these blackstone blocks into polished blackstone bricks like so and we can give ourselves a little bit of a walkway around the outside here because if anything i need a bit of a safety net if i come down here and This zombie pig man is in the way right now i’m probably not gonna be able to push him out of the way i kind of want to make sure that this area is at least walkable i don’t know why but it seems like zombie pigmen have decided that This is the right day to go for a swim down here so i’m gonna have to leap over a couple of them until they start to move around or end up despawning but circling this entire area in blackstone is certainly going to make me feel a little bit more comfortable about Basically having a huge lava lake here it’s certainly a lot nicer not having to worry about the magma cube spawns being absolutely everywhere at this point and yep it does seem like this is doing its job and making sure that nothing will spawn even when we get into the radius of the Spawner which is very promising indeed i am hearing a couple of piglens spawning elsewhere in the structure and i’m not sure if those are just piglins that i missed out when i was taking care of the rest of them or if the piglens are actually respawning inside this bastion because then Once again if they are then we might have to do something about that let me go and check the ramparts one more time to see if anything has spawned up there in the meantime oh and interestingly enough there’s actually a section of this bastion that is in a soul sand Valley so we could potentially see some skeletons spawning in here like one just did a second ago but that has some interesting prospects in and of itself because if you consider that we could in theory make this area a spawnable space for zombie pigmen we could also make a skeleton spawner on One side and a magma cube spawner down below and this could become quite a powerful area once we converted it into something a little bit more workable like imagine having a magma cube farm and a zombie pigman farm and a skeleton farm all in one place here in the nether that is A pretty interesting prospect now let’s wander up this tower for a second and see if there are still any piglets around there is one surefire way to see if they are here or not and that’s to open up one of these chests within earshot of them or even mine some Gilded black stone if there is any in the area but you know i’m not actually seeing any there may have been some further down in the tower sections of the ramparts because there is a substantial basement to these things where they hide all of their gold blocks but i have a Feeling that the majority of the piglens from here are gone and that may still be because of the amount of other mobs that have spawned in this area but i’ve been working at a distance from this whole bit for a while and it seems like there isn’t too much else spawning up Here on the ramparts but despite that i think we’ve actually done all we can in that tower so i think what we’re gonna do is come back through here and we’ll start to restore some of these walkways basically anywhere i see gaps and patches in the walkway we are going to restore those Using the blackstone bricks that i brought with me i’m going to keep the cracked blackstone bricks in here as part of the decor but i think we are going to remove any of the basalt that we find and replace that with black stone bricks as well because i always get the Impression from basalt like it is meant to be a run-down version like a kind of melted version of all of the blocks around it but i think we’re gonna have this black stone stand the test of time and restore it to its former glory now that may end up meaning that we Have a kind of bland looking structure at the end of this like it’s going to look a little bit mono block as far as the structure goes but we can probably start working in a little bit of the polished the black stone instead of just using the polished black stone bricks Maybe we can put those in patterns around these walkways or at each of the doors and then i think what i’m going to do is start working in things like pillars and other details made out of the wood types that we have here in the nether so the Warped and crimson wood that i’ve already brought with me can be used to maybe trim the outside of some of these rooms like around the ceiling around the floor we can maybe put in a few pillars here and there i think we can make this place look pretty cool If you look around at this area you can definitely see hints about how things are supposed to look for example this pillar over here and that pillar there should be symmetrical but of course with this peeler having been decayed a little bit more it’s got some of the polished Uh basalt in there and that’s actually what’s making it look a little bit more run down but we can replace that with the black stone that we see mirrored on the opposite side and around the outside here we do see examples of some fully realized structures which just have One or two blocks missing here and there and those we can actually renovate properly same goes for these pillars with the walls in there those are echoed elsewhere around the structure some of them with basaltine some of them not and so all we need to do is go Around replacing all of the decayed looking stuff with some fresh new black stone and this place is going to be looking good as new hey folks welcome back so i have spent a whole bunch of time today renovating this structure and i’m not quite done yet With all of these pock marks in the ceiling and the occasional pieces of bath salt in the walls and i kind of wasn’t sure what to do about this section here which just has a column of lava providing some kind of interesting lighting and an interesting i guess Feature wall if we want to talk about this in interior design terms but now if you look down through this structure you will find the whole thing looks a lot more put together it still looks a little bit like the scene from labyrinth where david bowie is walking On the ceiling a little bit there are a lot of staircases that feel like they are upside down and things but there is actually a through line for where you can walk throughout the entire structure with a couple of connections i have made from anywhere that looked like a bridge Originally i’ve kind of extended that outward and connected it to something nearby whether something is across the room or something just around the corner from itself and what i’ve ended up with is a pretty coherent structure all things considered there are actually a few areas around Here where you’d have to take some odd like routes around the place to get where you want to go like down here for example to cross this bridge to get down to this next level but then from here there’s a nice handy set of stairs that takes you Down to the next bit there are a couple of bridges to cross this section here which still needs a couple of stairs added to it so that you can hop up onto this bridge from below but this takes you down to the next section here and this is one of the only Areas of basalt i have left in the structure because it seemed a little bit more intentional to me to have this entire pad of basalt here flanked by more blackstone stairs forming a staircase and as we go around the corner here you’ll notice that there Are a couple of places where we can hop down onto the central bridge that takes us across to where the magma cube spawner is we can hop back over here and then around the outside there’s a little bit of a guard rail here to make sure i don’t drop down this Bit because there’s actually quite a drop down there but a couple of switchback stairs take you down to this area where if you head over that way you should be able to make your way out to the main treasure room and i had to knock through that wall there and Probably this one on this side as well actually to get a nice easy pathway to the treasure room but then once we’re there of course we can check out what we’ve got in the loot chest we have a couple of unenchanted diamond things here a couple of loose diamonds and a mending Chest plate actually really really good loot i didn’t even look at that super closely earlier no ancient debris sadly but we don’t need to worry too much about that i’m getting enough of that just from mining right now and yeah i’ve managed to get the rest of this Lava sink over here kind of cordoned off aside from those blocks where the piglen was taking a bath earlier and i’m really happy with the way this came together actually a lot of the basalt has been removed it really gives the place a bit of a cleaner feel if a little bit Samey and that is what i am now trying to rectify with some of my additions further up in the bastion so let me quickly grab my fireworks i have to be a little bit sparing with these because i only have a couple left and i make it back up to the top Here where i’ve started to put in a little bit of crimson wood and i really think crimson stuff is going to be a really nice accent color up here i’m thinking about putting in some nether wart blocks in the floor there simply because they work really nicely as a carpet Without having to add actual carpets into the place and risking them getting set on fire or exploded by gusts or something like that i want to make these walkways a little bit deeper so that we can have them covered by blackstone from below and then just lay the netherwart out here on top But there are a few places where i really feel like having this red carpet running throughout the place makes it feel kind of grand and with the gilded black stone in the walls and everything this place could actually start to feel quite opulent now i’m thinking about swapping out some Of these lanterns first soul lanterns just so that we can deal with the piglet problem piglet as you know will run away from soul lanterns and since they’re also running away from the zombie pig men it’s not really going to make a huge amount of difference whether we decorate with soul lanterns Or not but those could give a nice cool glow to the area the light color doesn’t actually change but they can look a little bit different or we could stick with the current decor of lanterns which goes a little bit better with the crimson stuff i think it already depends On whether we want to use warped or crimson for each area and it kind of depends which biome we’re standing in what kind of biome fog we get as well because out here in this direction it’s very much that crimson forest look whereas on the opposite side over here i Think we’re actually standing in a soul sand valley and by looking out towards the door the color completely changes to blue and i get skeletons spawning all around me but aside from the occasional hogland incursion this has been a pretty smooth process and it’s amazing how easy it is To just go around and tidy up all of the areas that feel broken down you need a lot of blackstone for this i’ve been through probably three or four shulker boxes of the stuff at this point but the piglens will leave you well enough alone as long as you’re wearing Gold armor and as long as you don’t break any of the gilded black stone and the whole process has gone pretty smoothly up till this point and then of course the hoglins come out to play and i have to hunt them down myself well it’s probably I’ve you know i’ve got a few pork chops under my belt at this point i think i can handle a hoglin or two especially when they’re just coming in from the outside but it does seem like the piglins do respawn in here after some time or after the mob cap is cleared and Refreshed because i’ve noticed some piglets spawning out on the battlements out there as well and they definitely weren’t there when we ended up taking care of the ones who were here initially so we are going to have to deal with piglet spawning no matter what and there are some ways That we could deal with that and make sure that they don’t spawn on the interior of the structure but it involves even more black stone in the form of making sure all of these areas are covered in slabs maybe even putting some actual carpet on the netherwork blocks here Or lighting the place adequately which will be a heck of a job with a structure this large i think just in terms of the sheer volume we are working with here this out does an ocean monument and it may even be a bigger area than a woodland mansion although those are Pretty large i have a feeling though if we took the volume of this structure and the ramparts at the site it definitely gives the woodland mansion a run for its money which means a lot of resources have to be put into decorating a building like this but I think it could be pretty good fun and given the size of this place you could actually totally take one of these over and turn it into a bit of a nether farming operation and not just thanks to the fact that we have a magma cube spawner down there We’re clearly getting some hoglands and piglets spawning outside and the zombie piglens are everywhere not to mention the fact that we’re in a soul sand valley on this side and spawning skeletons occasionally we could set up a bartering hall in here if we wanted to to make sure that the piglens Had something to do while they were roaming around these halls you’d have to name tag some of them of course so a few of them would be running free but you could definitely give it a try now with a more creative approach to storage you could even set up something Like a storage system in here using maybe minecart chests or anything else that didn’t have an opening and closing animation even using you know redstone setups with dispensers and droppers in to make sure that you could get the resources that way without having to worry about Angering the locals i think it could be a very very neat place to set up a base and i’m preserving the look of this bastion just by connecting up the walkways and adding a few details of my own but if you wanted to you could turn this into a mansion just Splitting up some of these rooms creating floors where there aren’t currently floors areas like this where you could just fill out this space with something else and as long as you’re sticking to farm designs that you can build in the nether without access to water and stuff like that The options here are truly spectacular one thing i was thinking about doing actually is having a blast furnace set up at the bottom of here because down here further down in the structure there is actually this kind of fire area which doesn’t have any real purpose other than just being An aesthetic detail but you’ve got four blocks of netherrack here that are burning in this room that previously was just this kind of i guess gazebo type of thing for it and all i did with that was just build a giant chimney above it but what i thought you could maybe do Is have a set of blast furnaces down here which maybe with a little bit more stuff built up around it you could have a comparator hooked up to some of the blast furnaces and that would detect when the blast furnaces were smelting something retract some blocks up there in the Ceiling using pistons and then allow the smoke for some campfires to rise up so you could always tell when your blast furnace was still cooking something and then once all of the stuff came out of it it could close off again indicating that whatever was smelting in There was done and if you didn’t want to go that direction you could maybe turn this into a giant pizza oven and make this the kitchen area you know some of these rooms in these bastions kind of have themes around them already and all you need to do is just bring Them to life a little bit with some stuff you’ve made in the overworld but i’ve spent enough time on this project today that i actually really really like it now and i think i might end up doing more with this in a future episode so instead of rushing through this Today and trying to get a few more details done i think that’s where we’re going to call it for this episode and in future if you guys are up for that i’m thinking we might turn this into a longer term project where we completely retrofit this bastion with all of the Cool stuff that we could throw in here as far as the nether update goes it’s not necessarily going to be this like multi-farm extravaganza especially now we’re starting to build a hogland farm somewhere else but i think we could really make this into a special project For the series so let me know what you think about that idea in the comments for now that’s gonna be it for this episode of the minecraft survival guide my name is ben pixariffs don’t forget to leave a like on this episode if you enjoyed it
