Hello and welcome to another Minecraft video. Today, we’re going to show you how to set up and install Shader Packs and even Resource Packs on your Minecraft instance. To do this, we’ll be using Iris Shaders, which is part of the Fabulously Optimized modpack. First, you’ll need to make sure to have Prism Launcher installed. If you don’t have it installed or you don’t know how to do this, we have a YouTube video in the description below that shows you how to set up and configure Prism Launcher. Let’s get into the video. If you haven’t already, then you’ll need to install Fabulously Optimized, which is a modpack. To do this, you’ll need to add an instance by clicking on Add Instance, click on Modrinth and select Fabulously Optimized. Here, you can select the Minecraft version you want to run with And if you want to run in beta or unstable. I want to show this off in 1.20.1, and the stable edition, but the beta or even a few older versions should work without any issues. But here I’ll be choosing 5.2.8 for 1.20.1. Beware, the beta version might be a bit inconsistent, But should generally work. After you’ve selected your desired version, hit OK, and this will install the modpack for you. And now you can see Fabulously Optimized, right here, has been installed. Now to download the Resource Packs or Shader Packs you want to run. You hit edit, and then this nice window appears. From here, you can customize a bunch of things, but we’ll go down to Shader Packs for now. Here you can download shaders. This will show you that Modrinth has a bunch of shaders available that you can choose from. This way you don’t need to worry about going to some sketchy sites That might or might not give you a virus because here you can be very confident that all of these files are completely safe. So here you can download a couple of shaders. I’ll be downloading BSL. So you click on the shader you want and then hit “Select shader pack for download”. And if you then don’t want to download or try anything else, you could just hit on “Review and confirm”. But I want to show multiple shaders. So I’ll also grab Complementary Reimagined. Just grab the latest version, “Select shader pack for download” and “Complementary Shaders v4” and also select this for download. When we now hit “Review and confirm”, we’ll get a list of the shader packs we want to download. For me, it is the three I just selected. Yours obviously will have different names if you want different shaders. Then you’ll hit OK and it will download all the shaders and they’re now available to me. For resource packs, the process is very similar. Just head over here, click on resource packs, and then you can see that Fabulously Optimized already comes with a few resource packs. You don’t need to worry about this because these are just some resource packs that some of the optimization mods need to run properly. Anyways, just hit on Download Packs. And here you actually have two options. You can either choose CurseForge or Modrinth. I’ll just stick with Modrinth for now. Here you can select a resource pack for download. I will be going with Default Dark Mode, which just darkens the UI a little bit. Just hit “Select resource pack for download” and then “Review and confirm”. Sometimes your resource packs or shader packs don’t work on the latest version or on whatever version you have selected. And in that case, you just have bad luck and you’ll need to find an alternative or something else. Here we can see that the default Dark Mode resource pack has been installed. Now we could just go down here and hit Launch, or we can close this menu and double click on our Minecraft instance. And if you double click on it a second time, the log will open. Here you can see when errors or crashes happen, and it will usually tell you exactly what’s wrong. If you don’t understand it, you can ask family or friends or even join our Discord community for help. Now that Minecraft started up, you’ll be able to see down in the corner here That Fabulously Optimized has launched successfully. If you don’t see this in the corner, you might have clicked the wrong instance or you did something wrong. If that’s the case, we suggest you try again from the beginning. Anyways, now you can just load into the Multiplayer or Singleplayer world you want to play on. I will just be choosing Singleplayer for the tutorial here and you can see I’m fully loaded in. So to enable your resource pack… Right now, you can tell that my Dark Mode resource pack is not working properly because I haven’t enabled it yet. To do this, you hit on Options, click on Resource Packs right here, and you can see that there are a few available. This is again just the resource packs that Fabulously Optimized configures and sets up for you for better optimization and looks. But you can see here that in the “Available” section that the default But you can see here that in the available section that the default Dark Mode resource pack is here. This means that it is not loaded and is not being shown to you. To make sure that it’s loaded, you just hit on this Run button right here. And after you click it, it will be moved over to the “Selected” page. This means that as soon as we hit Done, it will load this resource pack Into the game, as you can see by the indication of the loading bar right here. And if I now go to my Inventory, you can tell that my UI is a lot darker. If you want to unload a resource pack again, either because you don’t want to use it, Or it might be a bit buggy, you go back to the Resource Pack section and click the same Run button that is now pointing in the other direction. This will move it back to the “Available” section, which means it will unload it as soon as we hit Done. Here we can see the loading bar again to unload the resource pack. And if I go back to my Inventory, you can tell the UI is a lot lighter than when we had it enabled. For shaders, it is a little similar. We go back to Options, but instead of Resource Packs, we go to Video Settings. We know this UI looks a bit scary. This is because Fabulously Optimized gives you a bunch of granular control over different aspects of the game for either performance sake or just tweaking around. But we will ignore all of this and only click on the Shader Packs button in the top right corner. After you’ve clicked that button, you can see the shaders that you downloaded. For me, it’s BSL and the two complementary versions. To load this shader, I just click on the shader I want loaded and then hit Apply. This may take a few seconds because some shader packs are actually quite large and it heavily depends on your hardware. But if I now go out and look around, you can see that the shader is running and working. To switch shader packs, or disable them fully, you go back to the Video Settings and click the Shader Packs button again And you can disable them by clicking the Shaders button right here and hit Apply. Now let’s quickly do a comparison between shaders-on and shaders-off performance impact. A lot of computers will not be able to run shader packs because they are quite heavy on your computer. So if we look right now, my FPS is around 500, 400, depending on if I look around or not, even down to 300. But standing still, it is around the 500 mark. Now, if you go to Options, Video Settings and Shader Packs again, And we then just enable the default complementary shaders, shader pack. We just hit Apply. This will again load that specific shader and unload the other one. If you now hit Done and go out of this menu, we can see that my FPS drops down to around 140. This means that having shader packs disabled gains me around three to four times more FPS. If your computer cannot handle this, then you might need to configure these shader packs to work properly. But some computers will just not be able to run shaders. Make sure to check the computer spec requirements of your shader pack or just trying them out and seeing how it works. If you’re having FPS issues, we will not really be able to help you, as you will need to upgrade your computer. And there you have it. Now you know how to set up and install Resource Packs and the Shader Packs on your computer. Have fun and have a nice day. Video Information
