In 2016 and 2017 4J Studios released a series of three unique minigames for the console editions of Minecraft being battled tumble and glide they were received well by the community who both played and created content surrounding the minigames as they were the closest thing to servers which console editions Lacked at the time however as of today these mini games are completely desolate as they are now part of the discontinued Legacy console edition of the game so what happened why didn’t Microsoft add these mini games to bedrock and what made them so unique let’s go into little more depth shall we On the 10th of June 2016 Mojang announced the release of a minigame specifically for console editions and after just 11 days the battle was released although similar to the wildly popular Survival games by Nature battle offered a plethora of unique differences such as the fifth and second grace Period refilling chests the ability to remove all items from a chest at once and several others battle hosts could also choose between several other settings that could change the game such as chess loot as there were various presets for available loot Fountain chests such presets include normal which Was the standard loot Food Central where foods and Potions could only be found in central chests and high power where armor and weapons released iron there were also settings for Hunger round length lives per round and map sides which led to players having a fresh experience each time they played as of March 2017 21 Maps were available to play with 5 unique battle map packs including festive Halloween and Fallout Maps out of the three mini games battle was the most popular with the player base and received the most amount of attention on YouTube with various console creators such as Stampy posting Videos in the mini game with friends Tamil was released on August 30th 2016 and his 4J Studios unique take on spliff with the core concept the same although with different game modes as the minigame progressed tumble received updates allowing players to completely customize the game to their liking with The available game modes to be chosen between the regular shovel snowballs fireworks and even splash potions of levitation a player’s number of lives as well as the number of layers on the map and the layer size were also settings for those hosting the mini game Clyde was the third and final Installment from 4J Studios and although they hinted towards the fourth minigame surrounding building it never happened Glide was a completely unique minigame and utilized the newly added Elijah players would race each other to the Finish Line with a lengthy track with various checkpoints throughout the minigame came with two different game Modes time attack scored players based on the fastest time to complete the track where a score attack scored players as they flew through various Hoops found throughout the track with green Rings awarding three points yellow rings giving Five Points and blue rings with seven points Glide matches a split Between three rounds with the winner being the player with the fastest or highest score from any of the three rounds each player has three hearts of Health with one being lost when hitting any wall and all three loss when hitting the ground however after dying players simply respawned at the last checkpoint They crossed a notable thing about Glide is that it’s the only minigame that can be played solo with a ghost of the player’s best time or score racing alongside beside them which encourages players to improve on their time and offers a challenge when playing alone in Terms of dlc’s Glide off at four packs as three Maps were available for anyone to play whereas nine maps are unlocked for DLCs okay okay enough about the mini games themselves why were the console versions discontinued on September the 20th 2017 Mojang released the Better Together update bringing together Pocket Edition Windows 10 Edition as well as the Xbox One PS4 and Nintendo switch to one version of the game that will come to be known as Bedrock Edition allowing cross-platform play across all of these devices Bedrock Edition was free for Xbox One and Nintendo players and it was Distributed as an update to PlayStation 4 players unfortunately this left the old gen consoles being the Xbox 360 and PS3 as well as the PS Vita and Wii U version of the game in the dust no longer receiving updates past the Aquatic update as of the end of 2020. This is due to several reasons although the most prominent being the fact that the old gen consoles and devices were based on older versions of the game and could not keep up with the constant updates and Hardware on new consoles possibly leading to difficulty in running the game smoothly furthermore as Time goes on more and more players will shift to newer consoles thus maintaining and constantly updating older versions of the game on the smaller player bases would not be as profitable as it once was a statement from 4J Studios on the 3rd of May 2018 regarding the final Update of the Legacy console editions being the Aquatic update reads as follows this will Mark the last big effort to keep those additions up to date with our newer versions of the game although we’d love to keep bringing new content to all our players forever the older generation of consoles now make up Less than five percent of our active plays so we’ve made the difficult decision to focus our efforts to support players where they play Minecraft the most all this being said players on the PS4 version of the game can still access the Legacy edition of the game mini games included why then despite the Success of 4j’s mini-games did Mojang refuse to carry them over to bedrock Edition well there’s a few answers the most obvious being that Bedrock Edition has servers which were not available on Legacy console editions of the game Mojang must have figured the players would prefer the many more mini-games Found on servers such as the hive and Mineplex to the only three mini-games offered by console auditions furthermore the console minigames were specifically developed for the console versions of the game thus would not be fully compatible with the bad rank production code and porting the minigames over Would take a lot of resources and time All Things Considered 4J Studios and minigames for a special unique and most importantly incredibly fun addition just for consoles they were one of the factors that made the console versions what they were different from the rest if you’ve watched this video through the End thank you so much let me know your thoughts on this in the comments and expect a new video soon ish Video Information

Minigames were a huge part of 4J Studio’s Console Editions of Minecraft, but today they receive almost no attention as they are a part of the now “discontinued” Legacy versions of the game, only available to play on specific consoles.
So what happened? Why were the console editions discontinued and why didn’t Mojang forward these minigames to Bedrock Edition?
In this video I answer these questions and break down the three minigames created by 4J Studios.
Editing is a little different in different sections of the video, I’m experimenting with different styles since it’s my first video.
Microphone also sounds a little eh but I’ll try out some settings in premiere pro and audacity that should make the voiceover sound a bit better.
