Mojang pushes forward on the Third Drop of 2026 with the dappled forest biome, wool stairs and slabs, abandoned camps and a new order independent transparency system that finally fixes translucent rendering issues.

If you have been waiting for something fresh in Minecraft beyond the usual mob or block drops, the current snapshots for the third game drop of 2026 deliver. Mojang is testing the dappled forest, a new surface biome that looks like an autumn explosion of warm tones thanks to poplar trees with randomized leaf colors.
Alongside the biome come wool stairs and slabs in all 16 colors, the abandoned camp structure with variant loot, new poplar wood blocks for building, red shrubs, shelf mushrooms and updated loot tables. These features were first shown at Minecraft Live in May but the snapshots make them playable now in experimental form.
The rendering fix everyone wanted
The real headline is the switch to a new order-independent transparency algorithm. Previously translucent blocks and particles could break rendering order causing ugly visual glitches with slimes, water, glass and leaf particles. The OIT system cleans this up significantly and Mojang even added shader defines and a debug toggle for testing.
Other changes include data driven pottery sherds, shields taking priority over hoe and shovel attacks, wandering traders selling poplar saplings and shelf mushrooms, plus dozens of bug fixes. The snapshots also bump the data pack and resource pack versions.
Bedrock players already have access to some of these features through the 26.40 experimental toggle. Full release is expected in Q3 2026, likely September, following the quarterly drop schedule established after Chaos Cubed.
- Dappled forest biome with poplar trees, red shrubs and shelf mushrooms
- Wool stairs and slabs in every color
- Abandoned camp structures with randomized chests
- New order independent transparency rendering system
- Poplar wood set including boats and all variants
- 69 bug fixes including long standing transparency and item drop issues
The community is already building with the new blocks and testing the improved visuals. One X user noted today that snapshot 3 could drop as soon as tomorrow with further polishing.
