Jeb Confirms Netflix Minecraft Animated Series Is Still Alive

After over a year of total silence and growing cancellation rumors Minecraft lead designer Jens Bergensten stepped in with a blunt one sentence answer that should calm fans down.

Minecraft fans have been side eyeing the Netflix animated series for months. Announced back in 2024 with WildBrain on board to handle the CG animation the project went radio silent after the creative team reveal at Annecy in 2025. No footage no fresh promo no presence at Netflix’s 2026 showcases. The vacuum filled up fast with cancellation speculation on Reddit and social media.

Is the Netflix Minecraft Series still in the works? The last report I made of anything mentioned of this was after last years Annecy France Animation Festival. Just curious. Yes we are still working on it!

The reply came from Jens Bergensten Minecraft’s lead designer and chief creative officer on August 28. He was answering a question from the Realm News account. It is about as official as it gets without a press release. WhatsOnNetflix followed up by reaching out to Netflix directly and received confirmation that production remains active even if details stay locked down.

This is not vaporware yet but it is moving at the pace of high end CG which means 2027 is the earliest realistic target and 2028 is not impossible. The lack of any visual progress after two years is still a yellow flag for anyone expecting it soon.

Netflix animated projects often take years between announcement and drop especially when they involve original IP like this one. The series could still land after the live action Minecraft movie sequel currently slated for 2027. For now the only real news is that the team has not walked away despite every appearance to the contrary.

Why the rumors got so loud

Radio silence breeds doubt. The project was a big enough get that its total disappearance from the conversation felt like a corporate burial. Fan discussions picked up steam across platforms until the direct question forced a public response. Bergensten’s one liner plus the Netflix statement should kill the cancellation talk for a while but it also highlights how little momentum the show actually has right now.

  • Original announcement: May 2024
  • Creative team reveal: June 2025 at Annecy
  • No updates or footage shared since then
  • Expected window: 2027 or later

Whether this leads to actual trailers or just more quiet development time will decide if the project ever escapes development hell. For today the story is simple. The Minecraft Netflix series is not canceled. That is more than fans had yesterday.
