Minecraft 26.3 RC2 Ships With Final Folder Freeze Fix

Mojang released the second release candidate for the Wilderness Bound drop on September 11. If it holds up, this becomes the version launching on September 15.

If you have been following the road to Minecraft 26.3 then yesterday brought the expected next step. Mojang dropped Release Candidate 2 for Java Edition. The change list is short on purpose. The only fixed bug is MC-311782: clicking a button that opens a folder now freezes the game until the folder is opened.

What this means for the September 15 launch

The post is clear. If no critical issues surface in RC2 this is the build that ships on Monday. That is an aggressive but realistic timeline after the pre-releases cleaned up trading exploits, shield behavior, and the brief x-ray with ender pearls. Mojang is clearly trying to avoid another last-second delay.

Testing versions can and do corrupt worlds. The usual warning applies: use a separate installation and back up anything you care about. The server jar is available for those running dedicated hardware.

This is Mojang in full end-of-cycle mode. One annoying freeze bug left on the board is exactly the kind of thing that generates support tickets on launch day. Shipping RC2 now shows they would rather spend the weekend watching for crashes than explaining why folders break the client.
  • Fixed MC-311782 folder opening freeze
  • No other changes listed
  • Full release targeted for September 15 if stable
  • Available now in the Minecraft Launcher under snapshots

The Wilderness Bound drop adds the Dappled Forest, poplar trees, abandoned camps and a pile of cozy building blocks. RC2 is the last realistic chance for the community to surface a show-stopping bug before it reaches millions of players. So far the list looks clean.
