Mojang Studios officially revealed the sandbox game will hit Nintendo next-gen hardware with Vibrant Visuals enabled by default including better lighting volumetric fog and dynamic shadows plus an upgrade path for current Switch owners.
Minecraft is officially heading to the Nintendo Switch 2. The launch date is October 27 2026 and the version will ship with Vibrant Visuals turned on by default. That means improved directional lighting, volumetric fog, and dynamic shadows right out of the box on the new hardware.
Nintendo Switch 2 owners will also get a Super Mario Mash-Up pack updated with the same visual treatment though split-screen play and some Marketplace worlds will not support the full upgrade. Mojang has promised more details on the upgrade path for people who already own the game on the original Switch in the coming weeks.
The timing lines up with other recent Minecraft ecosystem moves including the impending Minecraft Dungeons II release later this month. Players have been waiting for concrete news on the Switch 2 version since the console itself was revealed and Mojang has now delivered the basics.
