Hello everyone my name is pixel riffs and i’m not going to do an intro for this video it’s going to be a little bit different because this is going to be the last episode of this series the hardcore survival guide is going to end here and The title of this video is probably kind of a clue as to why a hardcore is not for everybody and i’ve sort of decided recently that it’s not for me and this won’t come as a huge surprise to people who’ve been following the series and asking when the next video is going to Come out i haven’t made a video from this series for about a month at this point and it’s for a few reasons which i’ll outline in this video but yeah ultimately i’ve decided that it’s not worth kind of stringing people along with the promise of more videos from This series when at this point my heart’s not really in it and i’ve decided that it’s probably for the best if we just end this series i hate to leave things incomplete but in kind of the same way i’ve discussed previously where i’ve said that there aren’t really Any good deaths in minecraft there is also not really a good way for a minecraft world to end it’s always going to feel like there is something more you can do in that world and that is even part of the reason why i’ve decided to leave the hardcore Survival guide world behind because in the hardcore sense combined with the fact that their you know every death in minecraft is ultimately avoidable it’s always going to feel like you had more stuff you could have done but at this point in the series i don’t Think it is worth me doing that in the hardcore survival guide world and i’ll go into a little bit of why as we do a bit of a world tour and look around some of the landmarks of this series which to be quite honest because of my lack of Overall focus with this series there haven’t been many uh but here is the main one of course this is the village that we found on basically the first day in this world we went exploring we found a village we found a bunch of villagers to take care of and they have all Survived miraculously well throughout this series we built a hobbit hole here in fact we built two hobbit holes one that has the sugarcane farming and this one which ended up being our overall base and i really like the design of this build i thought it came together super well i never quite finished Working on the interior even though we got a nice little sorting system over here and a little bit of storage over there and yeah there was so much again that i could have done with this series but i don’t feel like it really got the time It deserved and it will not have the time it deserved at this point because as far as we know minecraft 1.18 is sort of just around the corner mojang are in the final stages it seems like of putting out snapshots for caves and cliffs update part two and they’ve already Started this twitter almost countdown kind of series of videos where they’re talking about the upcoming release of minecraft 1.18 and like kind of leading up to it they’re kind of building hype for caves and cliffs part two which means i’m gonna have to shift the focus of my channel back onto the minecraft Survival guide which is something i always wanted to do like my focus really for this series has been to take my mind off starting a season two of survival guide because i wanted to wait for the terrain changes and everything that was coming in caves and cliffs part two Before i did that so this series has always felt like a bit of a stop gap and no relatively successful stop gap i guess but overall there were a few things that kind of ended up weighing it down for me it comes down to this first of all this series ended up competing With empire’s smp for both my time my creative energy and also the views of my audience and it was pretty clear it came as kind of a surprise to me actually that the audience was really going to be more into empires in the long term like If you look at the views on some of the videos and i’m not going to do this entirely based on views of course but if you look at empires smp episodes and hardcore survival guide episodes that came out in the same week in the later kind of stages of both series Empires is out doing hardcore by two to one it’s getting twice as many views as the hardcore episodes so it’s pretty clear to me that my audience is more invested in a series like empires than they are in hardcore and for me that made it pretty clear where i wanted to Spend my time because if my audience is twice as interested in one series then i’m gonna spend more of my time and energy making that series as good as it can be and the other thing about empires is that it’s a series with a bunch of Other creators all of whom are moving at a different pace and so i’m trying to keep pace with them more of my time goes into that series and as a result the hardcore survival guide world ends up feeling a little bit neglected by comparison the series just can’t move at The same pace and more and more i found myself devoting my stream time where i do some resource gathering and do a bit of the behind the scenes work that was all going towards empires as well instead of being split evenly between empires and the hardcore series and Ultimately my creative energy ended up more in empires as well because it had a stronger theme i really love the builds we’re doing out there in the desert and while i love the builds that we’ve got around here i do like the hobbit holes and i like the tower idea that we were Getting on with i sort of hit a bit of creative block with the overall theme of this area like we’re not rebuilding hobbiton from lord of the rings but we have these hobbit holes around i’m not really sure what the tower was supposed to look like other than just a way of Disguising these two nether portals for the nether hub and ultimately it didn’t really feel as cohesive as something like pixandria did plus we’ve got these farms out here on the surface which i could decorate but it didn’t really feel like it had the same creative direction that empires does the next problem i Sort of ran into was wanting to keep everything in a tutorial format because of course that’s the kind of content that i think really made this channel what it is in terms of keeping up a series that had the same spirit as the minecraft survival guide that was always sort of The intent with the hardcore survival guide as well it was to provide tutorials in a more permanent world but the problem with that in terms of hardcore is it’s difficult to stick to a tutorial format in a world that i could lose at any time which is why a lot of People’s hardcore series end up taking more of a let’s play kind of format where they just do whatever they work on big projects and they do all kinds of stuff in the world but they don’t have to structure it in the form of tutorials and this is kind of why i was resistant To making any kind of hardcore tutorial series initially was because ultimately if we lost the world we would have to do all of the stuff that we’ve done in the world again in order to get back to the stage where we were progressing the tutorial aspect of the series so my Approach to making a hardcore series kind of shifted towards just making everything as effective as i could first time within reason of course we’re not building like cycraft level world eating farms here but at the very least it made sense to get a whole bunch of effective Farms built first time and in a way that sort of approach didn’t really work for the tutorial format because it building these effective farms right away leaves very little room for improvement you can’t come back to those farms and rebuild them bigger and better than you Did before or you can but it doesn’t feel as satisfying as starting off with something super basic like a zombie spawner and then coming out here to build the giant mob farm in the sky that feeling kind of goes hand in hand with another aspect of this series which was Feeling like the world was temporary from the beginning but still not wanting to die a meaningless death now i’m obviously i’ve got a record saying that i don’t really like any of the ways that it is possible to die in minecraft like none of them feel particularly satisfying we dedicated most of an Episode of hardcore survival guides to that very feeling when we were fighting the dragon and i feel like that kind of mindset just meant i got in my own head a little bit and i thought well what is this series really going to mean ultimately if i Could lose this world at any time like i i’m a careful player and i don’t really want to take risks but i also don’t like the growing feeling that my continued effort in this series is ultimately futile and that is why i feel like kind of like mercy killing this series in a Way like i don’t want to end up punching an iron golem and like forcibly dying in this world or engineering some sort of situation where like i fall in lava and that’s it or something like that like i want to actually keep this world around For a couple of things that i’m going to discuss a little bit later but ultimately it comes down to the fact that i didn’t really feel like this series was worth continuing if my heart wasn’t in it which at this point it wasn’t the fact of the matter is i don’t Like putting all of this time and effort into a world that i could lose any time for some people that’s a thrill and that’s what’s good about hardcore for them but for me i just don’t get my kicks that way it’s not something that gives me an adrenaline rush it’s Something that gives me anxiety and i just want to avoid that really i wanted to get into the series and fall in love with hardcore and actually do some cool stuff with it but as it turned out it just didn’t really ever catch that feeling for me and i mostly ended up Getting into this because people kept asking about it and you know people would ask if i was going to do a hardcore guide around the time that hardcore got popular and i was still making the minecraft survival guide and i think people ask that mainly out of some sort of misconception that hardcore Is significantly different to regular survival and aside from the fact that you only have one life and so you spend a bit more time relying on totems of undying in dangerous situations it’s really no different to playing survival on hards like your mentality changes a little bit and in my case it didn’t Change for the better that’s the only thing that’s really different about hardcore part of it was of course motivated by the fact that hardcore had had a huge rush in popularity over the last year or so and i didn’t want to chase that trend at first but i want to Make my audience happy and people have this weird view that content creators who jump on a trend are somehow like doing it for the views as if that’s a bad thing but i i honestly say from my point of view none of this has been done Cynically like i don’t go into a series thinking oh yeah this will really milk the views out of my audience no i i want to make sure my audience is satisfied with the kind of videos i make and if you look at it another way you know i Don’t see the harm in making videos that an audience has shown a strong interest in especially if you’re having a good time doing it the flip side of that was that my audience was clearly having a better time with empire’s snp and in a way so was i empires ended up being the More popular series but it also ended up being the series that i felt the most enthusiastic about when i got up at the beginning of each day and sat down to record a video i was thinking about empires more than i was thinking about hardcore it’s also part of a problem I’ve run into in the past where i have a real difficulty keeping two vanilla survival series going side by side and while empires obviously has a couple of interesting quirks to it it’s not like doing a modded series next to a vanilla series where the two are providing significantly different content what i Thought i would end up doing with the hardcore survival guide was doing some stuff that empire’s snp wasn’t doing because the other empires have a monopoly on like amethyst shards for example and so i would leave all of the stuff i was doing with copper for that Series and focus on the stuff in this series that my fellow empires server members were like kind of taking as their own kingdom’s resource this felt a lot more like a world i could control and do whatever i wanted with but i actually really enjoy playing with the Sort of restrictions that we have about what people can farm and what people can trade on empires and that just ended up being a more compelling idea for me the last reason i ended up doing this series was really to bridge the gap between caves and cliffs part one and part two And with part two on the way i really don’t feel like it’s now worth putting any effort into a series like hardcore survival guide when i’m not really going to be able to start any big projects or make any significant progress before caves and cliffs part 2 Comes out at this point or if i did i would have to put all my effort into this series to make that happen compared to stuff like empires which people are clearly having a better time with and once again i wasn’t expecting empires to eclipse this series but it led to my Priorities changing and i really feel like in terms of a series that i want to feel like it has a good send off empires is that series for me at this point and so like i said much as i hate to give this series kind of a quiet goodbye it Sort of feels like that’s what it needs at this point and in much the same way as it’s not possible to have a good death in minecraft there isn’t really a good way to say goodbye to a minecraft world so that is why i’m not going to Say goodbye to this series permanently i am going to keep the world around i’ll put it in a special folder so it’s never going to get deleted if i end up purging my list of worlds in minecraft i’ll keep backups of it and while we’re ending this series we could Potentially return to this world in future if we want to do more stuff in hardcore and i still plan to dip into hardcore in other forms as well i think i find hardcore the most fun when it’s a short challenge like a stream where we just create a burner world and we Explore the snapshots looking for new features or you know short form snp projects like don’t die december that i’ve been involved with in the past have been really fun but i don’t think having like a mid to long term hardcore world is really where i want my energy to be And i’m gonna refocus my time on empire’s snp and doing a little bit more work on the survival guide season one world download which is still coming at some point i am still working on the museum and that’s yet another thing that’s been a drain on my time when it’s Come to dividing my time between making all of this different content but mostly i’m just really looking forward to 1.18 to caves and cliffs part two because that’s when the survival guide season two is going to be arriving and that will be the only world i work on for a Long time i’m hoping to get a series that lasts as long if not longer than the original season of survival guide and we’re gonna do even more wacky stuff in that series it’s gonna be a lot of fun and it’s gonna have a similar pace to survival guide with a few of the Things that we’ve learned from the hardcore survival guide in the process so i hope you guys will look forward to that and be along for the ride when that happens and in the meantime i hope you’re okay with this series ending where it has and not ending on a death i Gotta say like i don’t think it was gonna end on the death either way but ultimately i’m happy that we made the progress that we did this little group of villagers has been fantastic but the hobbit hole just hasn’t felt like home the way pixandria on empire’s smp has And that’s a project that i’m really happy i can put my name to and say that we really gave it all we had and so with the sun setting in the background i think that is where we are going to leave the hardcore survival guide folks Thank you so much for all the support you showed on this series i cannot wait to start some new adventures with you and i hope you’ll enjoy empire’s smp in the meantime thank you so much for watching my name has been pixel riffs please don’t forget to leave a like on This video if you enjoyed the series subscribe if you want to see more in future and i’ll see you guys soon take care bye for now You Video Information
