How To Make A Minecraft 1.17.1 Server (Hosting Your Own Vanilla Server is EASY)

What is going on everybody we’re back again today 1.17 has been released so it is time for me to show you how to make a 1.17 server before we start this off i just want to say thank you uh to all the subscribers everybody that’s supporting the channel

In the future uh it’s called the quarantine the address is tqmc.org trying to keep it on the most updated current version of minecraft alright so let’s hop right into this the first thing that you need to do that i always do is we’re just going to create a new

Folder to store everything in so right click new click folder and i’m just going to call this server 117 for 1.17 right now so net the next thing we have to do is we actually have to go source the server jar from somewhere so we’re going to go

To mojang which is the minecraft.net website and an easy way to get to their downloads page without having to click through a bunch of links and stuff is you can just come right up to the top when you’re on the main page type slash download hit enter and it’ll

Take you right to their downloads page scroll down a little bit until you see where it says java edition server this is what you want we’re going to click on this and this is going to bring you to the download page for the actual uh server jar itself and right here

This is the server jar that we want to download the minecraft server 1.17.jar so you want to click that and let it download so usually when you’re downloading jar files through chrome once it’s finished yep it’ll say this type of file can harm your computer do you want to

Keep the server jar anyway uh this is just chrome saying it doesn’t know what it is so it doesn’t it can’t verify that it’s safe we know that this file came straight from mojang from minecraft so we’re going to click keep we know it’s safe so we’re going to make we’re going to

Click keep we’re going to ignore the warning that chrome just gave us and then we want to take this server jar that we just downloaded and we want to drag that onto our desktop and into this server 117 folder that i just made so now if we open up the server 117 folder

You can see that we just have the server jar inside but we need to create another file called a batch file which is actually a script that is going to launch the server for us okay some people just click on this and then a window pops up and you

Can do that but then you can’t specify arguments and all the extra stuff so we’re gonna be writing a batch file so the way to do that is uh the first thing you need to do before we even get into anything is you need to make sure that you can see your

File extensions all right so if you see if you don’t see server.jar you just see server or if you don’t see like dot txt at the end of text files you need to enable this so that you can actually see the file extension so the way to do that on

Windows 10 is you click this view tab up here in the file explorer you go to options change folder and search options this window will pop up you click the view tab up here at the top and then scroll down and there should be a checkbox here that says hide

Extensions for known file types you want to make sure that this checkbox is unchecked if this checkbox is checked it’s going to hide the file extension so if you have it unchecked click ok and then you should be able to see all the files file extensions no problem

So we’re gonna right click new text document all right we’re gonna call this just start and now you can see we can see the start.txt at the end that’s important so now we want to edit this text document so just right click on it click edit and now we’re going to type

In the actual batch script itself so we’re going to start off with java because that’s the program that we want to open the jar file with and then we’re going to specify the maximum amount of memory that we want java to initialize the jar file with so that’s going to be

Xms and then i’m going to say 2 gigabytes which is 2048 megabytes so 2048 m and then we’re going to specify the maximum memory which is xmx and i’m just going to do the same number i usually always like to set those the same and then we have to tell java what type

Of file it’s going to be interpreting right so we have to tell it it’s a jar file so we type tack jar and then we have to actually specify the file name of the file this is where a lot of people get hung up because they don’t type the right thing here you

Need to make sure that this part of it is this file name right here server.jar it needs to be exactly the same otherwise it won’t be able to open it because you’ll be telling it to open the wrong file so once you have that there add an additional argument at the end

No gui that’s going to prevent the native minecraft server gui from popping up it just uses additional resources and we’re gonna have a console window open anyway so we don’t need that and uh always hit enter and type pause this is gonna give you a little break at the end it’s gonna

It’s gonna stop your command window from closing so that you can actually read any errors that pop up so at the end of this uh that’s it that’s all you need i’ll put i’ll copy this into the description uh and then save this and then we’re done with this

So now we need to rename this right here and we’re just gonna go dot b80 and now it’s a batch file it’s gonna pop up and say if you change a file name extension the file might become unusable are you sure you want to change it

Click yes and now you can see that the text file has now turned into a windows batch file and that is perfect that’s exactly what we want this is the file that we’re going to be clicking on and using to start our server so uh let’s start the server up let’s

Double click on start.bat and see what happens so we got this error here now what this is telling us is that our version of java is out of date if you guys get an error similar to this that says this version of the java runtime only recognizes class

Files our class class file versions up to 52 when you and if you see that the current version or whatever is 60 or whatever it’s trying to use it’s just basically out of date so you need to update your java okay so we need to update to

Java 16. so in order to do that i’m pretty sure we need to grab the development kit all right so i’ll link this page right here so we’re gonna yeah it’s called the java uh yeah the java jdk which is java development kit we want to grab the windows installer here

So we’re going to download this i guess you have to check check box that right there we’re going to download this file okay so once it’s finished downloading we’re gonna take this and we’re just gonna run it just double click it Okay so it’s going to pop up and say uh java sc development kit and the version 16 is what we’re on we’re going to allow this app so yes we want to install it i don’t think we need to be on this web page anymore we can minimize that for now

Okay so once this pops up was going to want to go through this and install it i’m just going to leave all the default settings okay so the java development kit was successfully installed so uh we should be good we’re gonna click close okay so after you install java 16

What you need to do is you need to make sure that that’s the one that you’re running so open up a command prompt now you have to make sure you open up a new one uh if you had one open before because your path variable might have changed

And you have to reload that so we’re just going to type in java tech version and there we go java version 16. that’s what you want to see if you have that you have the correct version of java and you should be able to run the minecraft server okay so after you have

Java 16 installed you should be able to come over here and click the start.bat file and it should not give you that error this time and it should launch the actual server up well what it’s going to do is create a couple files for us if we look back over here

It created the eula the server properties and the logs so we’re going to hit enter to continue that’s going to close that window out and then we need to edit this eula.txt file here we need to change this to true so after you change that save the file and

Now you can rerun the start.bat file and you should be good it should load up the server so if this pops up you want to make sure you allow this through your network otherwise no one’s going to be able to connect to you so make sure you allow that

Alright so look it is done our minecraft server uh is up and if you see this that just means that the hardware you’re running it on might not be good enough for the minecraft server if it continues to print this message over and over again that means that the server is running behind

I’m running this in a vm right now so probably not the best environment for a minecraft server but uh yeah that’s why i’m seeing this message but it’s up it’s running and we should be able to connect to it now so let’s hop over on our 1.17 client and

See if we can get into this server okay so now that we have our 1.17 client up and running uh we’re going to join the server so there’s a couple different ways to join a minecraft server if you guys haven’t watched any of my previous videos i’d really recommend watching the one

That i made that explains the three main ways to do it because depending on where you’re connecting from uh the ip address you’re going to type in here be different if you’re inside the network versus outside things like that so i know for a fact that the ip address of the

Computer hosting the server i’m trying to connect to is 10.0.0.204 on my local network so i know that that’s the address i need to use to join uh if you were gonna port forward on your router let’s say to get your friend to join which is what

You’re going to have to do and i have a whole separate video explaining what port forwarding is and i’ll link that and talk about it more at the end as well but um then you would be using the external or public ip address of your router for them to join

And then you would be joining using the internal ip so it’s a little bit different i have a whole video explaining that like i said i’ll link that so i know for a fact that mine is 10.0.0.204. so if i click join it should connect to my server and i should join

Here we are we’re on the 1.17 server push f3 up top left you can see it says 1.17 i’m getting an amazing 16 fps right now with all this crap running on my computer so if you’re going to want to get your friends to join on the server

You’re going to have to port forward on your network okay so you’re going to have to open port 25565 or whatever port you’re using if you didn’t change it that’s the default one and you’re going to have to open that port up by setting up a port forward so

You’re going to have to port forward that port to the ip address of the computer the internal ip remember and you’re gonna have to basically allow people through the firewall to that computer i have a whole video explaining how to do that and uh it’s too complicated for this tutorial

So yeah just know that if you want other people outside of your home network to join there’s going to be an extra step you have to do um but yeah and then there’s one more thing that i want to show you guys and it’s the it’s that a lot of people

Are asking me now that i have my server set up how do i go to creative mode how do i get cheats well you have to opt yourself on your server so the way to do that is if we go back over to where our server is actually being

Running in the console of the server we’re gonna hop over there for a second okay so now that we’re over here you can see that i joined the game and i logged in and uh if i type a command down here and i type op

And i type voice dev made voiced have a server operator so that’s how you do console commands you type them right in there and you hit enter and you can type help and you can see all the different commands that there are you can scroll through them all

But if we go back to uh if we go back to the minecraft server now you can see that i was made a server operator and now i have game mode commands so i can turn myself into creative mode and i can fly around i can change the time
