Hello everyone, Meri here, I need your help with a pack that’s a matter of my heart, a pack aid for people with colour vision deficiency, better known under the term “colour-blindness”, which is not a correct term for the majority of people with colour vision deficiency, but everyone knows rightaway What is meant, so I’ll be using it on titles and thumbnails. Last year in 2018, I started to work on the concept of a colour vision deficiency utility pack, I’ve made a couple of hundreds of screenshots and colour-vision-deficiency-simulations, But real life was so busy and it still continues to be busy, so I had to postpone a release of the first WiP pack. But just a week ago I again read posts by Minecrafters with how their colour vision deficiencies cause them difficulties in Minecraft gameplay, and someone even wrote that… […] It was for me the factor where I said, scratch high video editing quality, scratch perfectionism, just get those first pack versions out as fast as you can. Those addon packs will be released under the name iSIGHT, basically “i” for indicators, information, related to the eyesight of people. Just a real quick, simplified and rushed background info, as there seem to be many people who got a misconception of so-called “colour-blindness”, and I also want to give other creators some more at least basic info, more may follow in future videos: Our eyes usually have currently 3 known different photoreceptor cells. One type of them are called “cones”, which respond to different wavelengths of light, light of short, medium, and long wavelengths. Three-colour-view, called trichromacy. Some people’s cones can perceive only a more or less weaker colour information, one cone type is malfunctioning, which is an anomalous trichromacy, and some people are solely two-colour-perceiving, Because they got a missing cone type, dichromacy. Few people got one of several forms of monochromacy, which is a bit too complex for this video. The effects of anomalous trichromacy can range from almost normal colour perception to almost total absence of perception of the “faulty” colour. About half of people with anomalous trichromacy will see the world similarly like those with dichromacy, but their ability to perceive colours will improve in good light and deteriorate in poor light. Often their colour perception can be as poor as it is for those with dichromacy, only 2 cones. This means colour-vision-deficiency is, like so many human conditions, on a *spectrum*. And on top of that, it can depend on brightness, how well lit the scenery is. If one cone type is affected, it affects the perception of *all* colours though, as the majority of colours are mixed. But if a person is an anomalous Trichromat, that does *not* necessarily mean, that they can’t perceive a certain wavelength of light at all, just not as strong as in regular Trichromacy. Majorly males of Northern European heritage got a more or less severe form of red- or Green-colour deficiency, up to about currently 8% of males. That type of deficiency is usually inherited, so those numbers may rather rise over time, and I’d like to help with a few issues they and people with other types of colour vision Deficiency run into in Minecraft with a utility pack for some essential basic gameplay. Personally, I don’t have a colour vision deficiency, so I have to rely on tools with which I can simulate the various forms of colour vision deficiency, and I know about the scientifical Background, the effect of those conditions, but I definitely need *your* help, if you are affected by any form of colour vision deficiency, as I can only simulate those deficiencies and try to imagine in my mind what may help, but each condition is individual, I sadly Can’t look through your eyes, so your feedback is vital, it’s your utility pack after all. I’d like the first addon packs to work for everyone with a red- or green-vision deficiency, as those are with 99% the most common amongst the color-vision-deficiencies. Addon packs for the rarer cases of blue-deficiency, as well as total colour-blindness will follow as well. Some of those packs may be also suited for people who don’t have any form of colour-vision-deficiency, but an impaired low vision, but that definitely requires feedback from affected people, and If needed, I may create an own addon pack for them, if enough affected tell me their requirements, and in case I can solve it by texture pack means. While I’m talking, you saw colour-vision-deficiency simulations, comparison pictures of the eyesight of colour-vision-deficient people, how some of them see colours, also in Minecraft, for Those of you who are normal-sighted, to get a bit of a first impression about the challenges of colour-vision-deficient people as well as myself as a pack creator, here in this case related to Minecraft ores, there are of course many more challenges regarding colours in Minecraft, which I’ll show in future videos. As the majority of people play with the Default pack, I base off the iSIGHT addon packs on the new 1.14+ Vanilla Default textures, for some packs I will add some higher resolution overlays or indicators on top of them though, similarly as I do in my iRedstone utility packs. I plan iSIGHT addon packs for at least: Ores, Armour, Tools & Weapons, Mobs, some specific items, for example ingots and emerald/diamond item, the latter for blue-deficiency, Redstone, GUI, some other blocks as one of the last addons, I will have to discuss the block types I have to change here with colour-vision-deficient people beforehand, but I also already got a prototype ready for specific blocks, which I will show you sometime, as a separate addon pack. For red-green-deficiency, I offer 2 different sets of addon packs with different textures, So depending on the severity of your individual colour vision deficiency, you can pick a pack which is more or less close to the Vanilla Default textures. Pack Type 1 I consider being suited for the less severe forms of Protanomaly and Deuteranomaly, Pack Type 2 for the more severe red-green colour vision deficiencies of Protanomaly and Deuteranomaly, and of course Protanopia and Deuteranopia, or maybe also for low vision. On top of that, there is a luminance option for each pack type, if you run Minecraft with Optifine. What does luminance in this pack mean: If you run Minecraft with Optifine and got a pack with emissive textures, you will see that some blocks emit light in the dark, for example ores, and some specific items that people with certain colour vision deficiencies have a problem with to differentiate. Emissive textures don’t give off real light, they don’t affect the light level, but you are able to clearly see specific blocks and items. You may know that “glow in the dark” possibility already from my Elytra Reality Angel wings and halo model pack. It’s of course up to you whether or not you want to or have to use the luminance-Optifine-option, you can, at any time, simply disable emissive textures in Optifine. I’ll show you that in a bit. Some people will see luminance blocks as cheating, but in my personal opinion it’s the circumstances In which something is used that makes it cheating or not. Anything that can help people with any form of deficiency is – for me – fair game, even more so if you consider that some blocks or items are hard or not distinguishable at all For some people, sometimes also dependant on the light conditions. It must be really tough to not only play PvP, but also simple PvE, Survival, with some forms of colour vision deficiency. I’ve read that some people with red-green-deficiency can mistake 2 dirt blocks stacked on top of Each other with a creeper, I mean, c’mon, that’s pretty.. evil! You can find the links to the 2 different WiP versions in this video’s description, and keep in mind that you will need Optifine for emissive textures. A link to the Optifine download site is also in this video’s description. To turn emissive textures off or on in Optifine, go to “Video Settings”, there you click “Quality”, and here you can find “Emissive Textures”, simply click to turn it off or on. Also be aware that this is a work in progress pack, it’s not done yet. You can find the current table of contents on the download site as well as inside the pack in a changelog textfile, and as soon as I add more textures to it or change previous textures, it’ll be noted on the download site and in the changelog-file as well. Version 0.01 for people with red-green-deficiency which I release with this video, is the 2 different ore versions which you saw. For now I will wait for a little while to collect some feedback of you, before I continue To release additions to the iSIGHT packs, and I also have to at first release the iSIGHT ore packs for blue-deficiency and monochromacy. Take care, have fun, bye bye Video Information
