2022 Special: Ten Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Minecraft
Hello again! My name’s Marilla, and I’m here to tell you 10 things you probably didn’t know about Minecraft in 2022. Well, about eight of them should be obvious, but don’t let me undersell it!
New Skins
This year, Minecraft announced seven new default skins coming to the game. Which one will you choose?
Steve’s Beard
It’s always fun to start a new creative project. But what is a good creative project to do if you don’t have any talent? That’s right! Growing a beard. Yes, 2022 was the year we finally restored Steve’s beard to how it looked in 2009. That means it took Steve over a decade to grow it back.
Camel Catastrophes
We couldn’t wait to add camels and camel-riding to Minecraft. And that impatience is probably why this happened during development. Oh, and this. Yeah, and this. Honestly, it might have been easier just to put real camels in Minecraft, but negotiations broke down.
Mob Vote Map
We have a few traditions we honor every year here at Minecraft. Traditions like getting a year older, me being unnecessarily sassy about ten things the devs worked *really* hard on, and letting our players vote for a mob to be added to the game. But 2022 was the first year we’d let you vote *in* game. We built a unique map where you could vote for your favorite mob in-game …and then watch it inevitably lose to the Sniffer.
Minecraft Dungeons
Minecraft Dungeons Tower mode got co-op multiplayer this year. But none of the characters you can play as were me, so who cares.
Space-craft!
What’s the most ambitious thing you’ve ever built in Minecraft? Very impressive! But Chrisdacow built something *slightly* more ambitious – the entire universe. I hope this builder knows that the 320 block height limit is not taking this well. It’s currently weeping, and calling its uninterested lawyer. Was it worth it, making this amazing universe anyway? Well yeah, obviously.
Minecraft Block Wizard
This is Minecraft Block Wizard, a new tool that lets you design your own blocks. You’ll soon realize that designing blocks is actually incredibly complicated, and that you should respect Mojang Studios’ artists more. OR you’ll soon realize that designing blocks is actually incredibly easy, and that Minecraft is the most overrated game in human history. I mean, one of the two!
TEN MILLION SUBSCRIBERS!
We passed 10 million YouTube subscribers! What’s a non-smug way of saying that? Whatever it is, I’m not interested in saying it. But there’s no risk of *me* sounding smug, because this year my voice was confirmed as perfect when I won a One Voice Award. No, really!
Minecraft Legends
We announced a new game: Minecraft Legends. Will it be the first Minecraft game I actually like? No. Boy, I can’t wait to say mean things over its trailer in my usual allegedly charming way and, – um, oh wait. I’ve just remembered that this year Mojang Studios made me a list of things I’m not allowed to talk about. Spoilsports.
Conclusion
I really don’t think this is gonna work. I *was* made in Britain. [Triumphant Beeping] Oh! It worked! Okay, here goes. Technoblade never dies.
Thanks to @ChrisDaCow for letting us feature his amazing universe build. If you want to see it in a resolution better than M.A.R.I.L.L.A’s ancient technology can display, check it out here.
