Yesterday’s Minecraft Live delivered on the hype. After months of teases the studio confirmed The Sift as Minecraft’s first new dimension since The End in 2011. Players will enter it in 2027 on both Java and Bedrock Editions.
What We Know About The Sift
The dimension appeared first in Minecraft Dungeons II, which launches in two days on September 29. That game serves as the proving ground before the full vanilla implementation. Early footage showed rich soul-like environments, new traversal mechanics, and distinct visuals that clearly separate it from existing dimensions.
The next major game drop brings Ice Caves, a rare underground extension of cold biomes. Expect glowing ice crystals, icicles, and a new hostile mob called the frozen zombie. This mob throws ice balls that deal velocity-based damage and apply freezing effects.
Additional reveals included Minecraft launching on Nintendo Switch 2 October 27 with enhanced performance and visuals, a Minecraft World theme park opening at Chessington World of Adventures in London during 2027 featuring a Nether rollercoaster and themed hotel, plus new Marketplace sound effects packs and improved creator tools.

The timing is deliberate. Dungeons II lets players explore The Sift immediately while Mojang finishes the larger vanilla integration. Whether the new dimension delivers lasting replayability or becomes another rarely visited biome like some past additions remains to be seen, but the sheer scale of the announcement has the community buzzing.
The Sift is Minecraft’s first new dimension in more than 14 years.
