If you fired up the Minecraft launcher today and got stuck on a Microsoft sign in or saw the red screen saying authentication servers are down you are not alone. As of October 13 Mojang profile and session services have been flaky for hours.

This is the recurring Java multiplayer tax. Services that worked fine yesterday start choking the exact moment a few thousand people try to join servers at once. Mojang has never published a postmortem on these spikes.

The minecraft.fr status page which probes Mojang endpoints from France shows five services green overall but explicitly logged slowdowns on Mojang profiles and multiplayer sessions. Three separate incidents today lasted 9 to 11 minutes each.

  • 13/10/2026 19:03 Sessions multijoueur lent 9 min
  • 13/10/2026 18:53 Profils Mojang lent 11 min
  • 13/10/2026 16:33 Profils Mojang lent 10 min

StatusGator aggregated 42 user reports in the past 24 hours with clusters from British Columbia Ontario Maharashtra England and Germany all complaining about authentication errors or connectivity around 17:00 to 18:30 UTC. Other trackers including minecraftserver.buzz and NerdZap recorded brief spikes but ultimately marked services as OK once the slowdowns cleared.

For Java players this means you cannot refresh your skin cannot join any online mode server and sometimes cannot even load the main menu if the launcher cannot reach the Microsoft account endpoint. Single player worlds still work. Realms may be spotty.

The usual fixes still apply: wait it out try a VPN switch networks or check the official Xbox Live status page. If the red banner is up on Mojang services there is nothing your router or antivirus can do except wait for recovery.
