Mojang Responds to 2026 Minecraft Ban Wave

An exploit letting anyone mass-report accounts with hate speech to trigger automatic bans has hit creators hard. Mojang says it is investigating while players demand fixes to a clearly broken system.

For weeks a group of players has been using a flaw in Minecraft’s reporting and moderation pipeline to get accounts banned en masse. The method reportedly involves filling a target Gamertag with slurs then reporting it through the system which automatically issues bans without sufficient human review.

Creators Caught in the Crossfire

High-profile targets have included Phoenix SC, IBXToyCat, AntVenom, Tubbo and others. Some lost access to entire Xbox accounts not just their Minecraft profiles. The perpetrators documented their actions and openly stated the bans were designed to force Mojang to acknowledge the moderation hole.

  • Exploit uses automated Xbox enforcement against fabricated reports
  • Works on both Java and Bedrock accounts linked to Microsoft IDs
  • Attackers say they are highlighting real moderation failures
  • Bans block multiplayer Realms and servers even for single-player users
  • Appeals process exists but is slow and inconsistent according to victims
This is not a bug in some obscure mod. It is a fundamental failure in the official reporting tools that lets a handful of trolls nuke any account they dislike. The fact it took a wave hitting visible creators before Mojang publicly responded says everything about priorities.

In a statement circulated on social media Mojang said it is actively looking into what happened and that support teams are handling affected accounts. Critics point out this is the same response given to similar exploits in the past with little visible change to the underlying systems.

We’re actively looking into what happened. Our support teams are working through the affected accounts.

The incident has renewed calls for better rate limiting on reports better detection of coordinated abuse and actual consequences for those filing false reports. In the meantime players are advised to avoid drawing attention from known bad actors and to document everything if banned.
