Potions in minecraft are some of the best and most useful items in the game however the potion brewing process is a bit complicated but no worries because this is the ultimate minecraft 1.18 potion brewing guide let’s check it out also according to youtube not even five percent of people who watch my videos Are subscribed so if you could press that subscribe button or check to make sure you’re still subscribed that would be awesome so to brew a potion in minecraft you need a brewing stand which is made with three cobblestone and one blaze rod now blaze rods are gotten from nether fortresses there’s also another Nether fortress item you need to do this which is a netherward now to actually brew your potion you need to get blaze powder which is crafted from blaze rods which is again also found in another fortress once you put that in there it’ll power your brewing stand for 28 Brews which is quite nice then you take glass bottles up to three right click on some water like this you can also fill these with a cauldron and once you have water bottles put that in the brewing stand and almost every single brewing recipe starts with another word and then A secondary ingredient so that’s basically the very very basic potion brewing process now when you’re brewing potions there’s a lot of different ingredients that you use i’m going to go through all of them right now so of course there’s the initial items you need which is the brewing stand and some Blaze powder for fuel then you can start off potions with either a nether wart or a fermented spider eye now there’s actually only one useful potion that you start off with the spider eye which is a potion of weakness and you put that in the bottles And it’ll actually go right to a potion of weakness with another wart that will make an awkward potion in fact we can see it right here because we just put one in there earlier although this awkward potion has no effects it’s the first step to go to the next brewing Process which is adding a secondary ingredient to make it into an actually useful potion so these are all the secondary ingredient items we have sugar rabbit’s feet glistering melons magma cream puffer fish spider eyes golden carrots we have actually more blaze powder gas tears turtle shell helmets And phantom membranes now when we put these in the brewing stand that’ll make different types of potions depending on which type of item this is once we have that potion so let’s say we’ll make ourselves a speed potion with sugar just like this and we now have Some speed potions like this but what we can do is we can modify this so that it has different features so for instance we could make it go from speed for three minutes to speed for eight minutes or we could make it be a faster amount of Speed but for less time and that’s what this third group of items are used for these are modifying ingredients so most of these don’t change the potion effect itself except for spider eyes but what they do is they’ll modify the amount of time the duration or how they’re used so We’ll start with redstone redstone adds more time to your potion so generally most potions brewed will be about three minutes this will add the duration up to eight minutes glowstone dust will make your potions stronger so generally like for instance with speed it would go from Speed one to speed two so that’s quite useful if you want something that’s maybe stronger but for a very small amount of time we have gunpowder adding that makes our potion into a splash potion so that when we throw it it’ll smash on impact and can affect mobs around it then there’s Dragon’s breath when that’s added to a splash potion so a potion that’s already been modified with gunpowder then that’ll turn that into a lingering potion and a lingering potion will kind of just sit on the ground for a while and then mobs can walk through it and Have the effect be applied to them and lastly we have the fermented spider eye which can be used of course first of all for making the weakness potion but what we can also do is we can use it to corrupt our potion effects that doesn’t work With every potion but it works with some so for instance corrupting a speed potion that would be made with sugar would turn this speed into slowness or corrupting let’s say night vision we’ll turn that actually into invisibility there’s a couple other cool ways of doing that so for some Potion effects which are really useful you’re going to need some fermented spider eyes to do that now getting all these items is also quite simple so here’s all you have to do to get the blaze powder and blaze rods you just have to kill blazes at a blaze spawner Or just that have spawned naturally in another fortress in the nether nether warts generate in small patches in the nether in nether fortresses only what you can do is you can plant that on soul sand and that’ll grow just like a normal crop would but it doesn’t need any water or light The fermented spider eye is a normal spider eye of course gotten from spiders and it’s crafted with a spider eye sugar and a brown mushroom and that makes a fermented spider eye sugar is of course gotten from sugar cane rabbit’s feet gotten from killing rabbits glistering melon slices made by surrounding a melon Slice in gold nuggets which were made by putting a gold ingot in the crafting table of course spider eyes gotten from spiders puffer fishes can be gotten from directly killing them in the water in let’s say a warm ocean or from fishing the magma cream is gotten by killing a Magma cube but you can also craft it with a slime ball and blaze powder a golden carrot is gotten by surrounding a carrot in gold nuggets you can also get these from villagers of course we just mentioned blaze powder gas tears are gotten from killing gasts turtle shell Helmets are gotten from when baby turtles grow up they drop a scoot then those scoots you can craft into a turtle shell helmet like you would a normal helmet so five scoots makes a helmet and the phantom membrane here has gotten from killing phantoms which spawn if you Haven’t slept for three days over here of course you get redstone from mining glowstone dust is gotten by breaking glowstone in the nether those large glowing structures that journeyed on the ceilings gunpowder has gotten from killing creepers or gas or witches now dragon’s breath is gotten from the ender Dragon when you’re fighting it’ll sometimes spit its dragon’s breath at you and if you right click on that with a potion what it’ll do is it will give you some dragon’s breath although that seemed like a very difficult item to get if you completely fill up your inventory With hundreds and hundreds of glass bottles and just kind of spam right click on there for a couple minutes then you should be able to get yourself a basically infinite supply of that which should be enough to last you for quite a while and as i mentioned earlier Fermented spider eyes are obtained by crafting a spider eye with a brown mushroom and sugar so now that you know every single item that is used to brew potions here’s how you brew every single type of potion in minecraft also it’s always a very good idea when brewing Potions to make sure to add a redstone or glow stone dust so that the effect will either last longer or it’ll be more effective also it’s very important to remember to bring milk buckets with you if you’re dealing with potions because if you drink one it’ll remove all status Effects you had so i could drink tons of different potions have all kinds of status effects and i could clear them all just by drinking some milk so first we have a potion of swiftness made with brewing an awkward potion from another wort then putting in a piece of sugar And that gives you a stiffness potion a swiftness potion is really cool and we’ll try out the effect right here if you drink it you can actually run faster it also increases your fov a little bit it may be hard to tell but i am walking A little bit faster now than i would be normally next we have a potion of slowness which is made with a netherwort a piece of sugar then it’s corrupted with a fermented spider eye to make a potion of slowness and we’ll try out what that’s like right here a potion of Slowness well makes you slower so it’s the exact opposite of the other effect and you can see here this is kind of the speed i would be if i was crouching so this could be quite useful if you turn it into a splash potion you could throw It maybe some enemies or maybe during pvp to make your opponent slower and harder for them to run away next we have a potion of leaping made with a netherwort a rabbit’s foot and we’re gonna put that in the brewing stand and the netherwart would turn this into an Awkward potion this would turn this into a leaping potion and once we have a leaping potion we can try that out and the leafing potion is really cool it makes it so that i can jump higher so you can see here i’m jumping quite high maybe it’s hard to see the effect here But it is quite cool and if i let’s say get myself a fence right here and i could surround myself in this well normally you can’t jump over a fence so if i surround myself in the fence like this and jump over i can actually do That quite easily so this is a really cool potion if let’s say you want to maybe scale some of the crazy 1.18 mountains or just want to be able to jump over your fences and i think of all the potions it has the coolest looking bottle with that amazing green color Next we have the potion of strength brewed with a netherwart and blaze powder just like this again putting the netherwart in there first to make the awkward potion and the blaze powder will then convert that into a strength potion let’s try that out right here here is the potion of strength when we’re Drinking this it’ll give us better attack damage so let’s say we have ourselves an axe or something then we could attack very very well with this it’s a bit hard to show but we can have a lot of attack damage like that it’s especially useful for things like pvp or Maybe fighting some boss mobs because it gives you that amazing increased attack damage next we have the potion of healing made with a nether wart and a glistering melon which is again crafted with a melon slice and nine gold nuggets of course we’ll put that in there turn This into an awkward potion and we’ll use this to convert the potion into a potion of healing and i’ll try that out right here a potion of healing is really cool because what it actually does is it gives you instant health so if i just go into survival here i may be hurting Myself a little bit by jumping off a cliff here just like this and now i drink the potion you’ll see my heart’s there just instantly replenished when i drink that unlike the slow regeneration and you can also use glowstone dust to make this way more overpowered and make This a potion of healing too which will give you even more health replenishing which is perfect for things like pvp especially if you turn that into a splash potion potions of harming are crafted with a netherwort a glistering melon of course that makes us the healing potion and then we’ll corrupt it With a fermented spider eye so we’ll put in the netherwork that’ll give us the awkward potion this will give us the healing potion and then the fermented spider eye will corrupt that into a potion of harmon and we can try out potions of harming they work exactly the Same as potions of healing except for they harm so that gives you instant damage we can try that out right here when we drink it it’ll instantly take away about three hearts of health and of course you can use glowstone dust to make this harming too which is even more Powerful and put that on a splash potion as an amazing weapon next we have a potion of poison which is different from a potion of instant herming that’s made with a netherwart and a spider eye and what we do is we just put that in the brewing stand nether wart to make Awkward potion spider eye converts that into a potion of poison and we can try out potions of poison right here what happens when we drink one is we get the poison status effect which makes our hearts green and slowly kills us until we’re at one half heart and it’ll never Kill us past one half heart but of course in pvp if you can give your opponent poison or maybe even when fighting a boss mob and their health goes down all the way to half a heart then of course all you need to do is just inflict a little bit of damage like Let’s say even falling a couple blocks to finish off that one last half heart and to kill the player also as a side note you can corrupt a potion of poison into a potion of harming just like we corrupted the health potion into a potion of harming with a fermented Spider eye next we have potions of regeneration which are made with a netherwart and a gas tier and of course we brew this put this in here make it an awkward potion put this in here and that gives us the potion of regeneration now regeneration is a really good potion to Add glowstone dust or redstone dust to because what this potion does is it basically slowly regenerates the health it’s almost like the opposite of poison where the instant healing potion will immediately give you more health and the instant harming potion will immediately take away health poison will slowly take Away health and regeneration will slowly give you health so we’ll try that right here only on half a heart we’ll drink the regeneration and you’ll see in the bottom corner that we’re not getting that from saturation from food we’re actually just slowly getting more health from the potion effect itself and of Course if this was a regeneration 2 potion we would heal a lot quicker or if it was a regeneration plus potion then we would just heal for longer a fire resistance potion is made with a netherwart and a magma cream now putting this in the brewing stand of course Gives us the awkward potion then this converts it into a fire resistance potion and we’ll try that out right here now fire resistance potions are certainly among the most used potions in the game along with water breathing just because they have so many uses i would Say for instance that anytime you go to the nether it’s probably a good idea to bring several fire resistance potions here’s how they work once they’ve been drunk we just go into the lava like this and we treat it just like water which is really cool now of course we can kind of Swim around in it like this we also have a little bit better vision underwater when we drunk the fire resistance potion now we have this immunity for as long as we’ve drunk the potion that’s quite a nice effect because if you have fallen in lava then you won’t actually die Whereas you usually would very quickly die although your items still will certainly burn so it’s very good idea not to just throw them in there like i just did there a potion of water breathing is made with a netherwart and a puffer fish now putting in the netherward of course again like every Other potion gives us the awkward potion the pufferfish converts that potion into a water breathing potion we’ll try that right here this is our potion of water breathing we’ll drink that and then maybe we’ll go under water in the water here where we’ve been filling up our Potion bottles just like this and you can see here when i go into survival that my little bubbles there at the bottom of the screen are not going down at all as they usually would if i had not drunk the water breathing potion in fact i’ll drink the milk bucket right Here so you can see these would usually go down like this as they are right now when i drink the potion of water breathing those will stay where they are wherever i drunk it so for instance if i was low already in oxygen it would just Stay at that level and it gives me this really nice water breathing effect for as long as it lasts which is awesome for ocean exploration maybe fighting an ocean monument or just anything you want to do to be underwater for a long amount of time the potion of night vision is Made with a nether wart and a golden carrot so putting the nether wart in the brewing stand gives us the awkward potion the golden carrot converts that into a potion of night vision now this is a very useful potion because when drinking this it basically makes everything be at full brightness sort of Like you can do by modifying the client when we drink this here you can see it’s at night vision three and when we go over here in spectator mode we’ll go down here and you can see every single cave is completely lit up now if we go Into one of these caves to show how bright they are like down into this one right here you can see of course everything’s at full brightness when we drink the milk bucket it’ll go to how it actually is which is quite dark like this potions of night vision are really Useful if you are exploring a cave maybe if you’re exploring underwater or maybe kind of looking into the water from above as the effect doesn’t work perfectly if you’re underwater but overall whatever use you have for having night vision in the game of minecraft this is a perfect potion and of course As the name suggests this would be great for seeing at night time as well a potion of invisibility is made with a nether wart a golden carrot and then it is corrupted by a fermented spider eye so we would brew this by putting in the netherwart into the brewing stand making Our awkward potion the golden carrot will give us the potion of night vision and then the fermented spider eye will corrupt that into a potion of invisibility let’s try out this potion effect right now i would say this is probably the most fun potion effect There is so here we are right now i’ll actually do this in f5 move like this if i drink the potion well i’m invisible i think it’s sort of a cartoonish and fun potion effect but super useful for things like for instance sneaking up on a player you can even sneak around mobs With this mobs will not see you with a potion of invisibility if you have no armor or tools equipped however armors and tools that you do have equipped will be visible so it’s important to make sure that you don’t have any of those equipped you can have them in your Inventory just not on one of your active slots the legendary potion of the turtle master is made with netherwart and a turtle shell helmet now turtleshell helmet is made with scoots now scoots are dropped by baby turtles when they convert from baby to adult that drops one scoot and five scoots crafted like You would a normal helmet make a turtle shell helmet so this is definitely not a cheap brewing recipe putting in the netherwork gives us the awkward potion and then the turtle shell gives us the potion of the turtle master potions of the turtle master unlike every other Potion in the game actually give you two separate effects it gives you slowness 4 and resistance 3. however adding glowstone dust to this makes it incredibly overpowered making a potion of the turtle master 2 giving you slowness 6 and resistance 4 that implies negative 90 percent speed compared to The 60 speed so drinking this one is absolutely crazy you basically can’t move your fov it goes absolutely crazy you can actually see the speed i’m going at sprint jumping kind of affects this a little bit but it’s absolutely crazy and resistance 4 is incredibly overpowered So if you’re in pvp or getting damaged that’ll certainly make you very resistant to those attacks for the short amount of time this lasts so certainly a novelty potion but if you do have a large amount of turtle shell helmets why not use it potions of slow falling are Obtained by getting a nether wart and a phantom membrane putting the netherwort in the brewing stand making our awkward potion and then taking the phantom membrane and converting the awkward potion into a potion of slow falling now potions of slow falling are incredibly cool potion and they’re actually quite Overpowered as well because when drinking one and i’ll actually go into survival just to prove this when jumping off a cliff will actually descend very very slowly like this it’s almost comical to see this and it’s quite useful because if you’re jumping off a massive mountain let’s say a crazy 1.18 Mountain or if you’re just trying to not die from fall damage and let’s say a pvp fight or in any other application then it’s a super useful effect you can also kind of move in a very strange way with this and when combined with elytra you can have this very strange slow flying Effect with it and overall just a very useful potion for a lot of different things especially with all the different fall damage dangers of minecraft 1.18 in both the caves and the cliffs this potion is a must-have if you want to avoid dying from fall damage in your Survival world last but certainly not least is the potion of weakness this does not start with another wart in fact the only thing it needs is a fermented spider eye putting in the fermented spider eye into the brewing stand will convert our water bottle directly into a Potion of weakness now the potion of weakness here that we just brewed has two distinct uses the first one is when converting it to a splash potion and throwing it at a zombie villager and then feeding that zombie villager a golden apple that will convert that villager from a zombie into a standard Villagers that’s made with the splash version of weakness the other use of it is of course weakening your opponents or other mobs you’re fighting when you’re attacking them so now i have weakness in fact what’s interesting is if you do have weakness you can actually not punch End crystals to make them explode and a couple other very very useful features like that as well of course it also makes your attack damage much lower as you’d assume by the broken sword icon and overall just a very nice potion to have for converting villagers or for Weakening your opponents in battles now you know how to use all these ingredients to craft every single type of potion in minecraft except for two other potions one called a thick potion and one called a mundane potion we have them right here now they’re sort of like The awkward potion made of course with the netherwort that has no effects except for the fact that there’s nothing you can actually do with them once they’ve been brewed so the thick potion is made with glowstone dust being added directly to water and there’s literally No point to make it unless you just like that name and the mundane potion is made with either redstone dust or some of these secondary items being added to the brewing stand right to water and that gives you a mundane potion so these are the only kind of useless potions you can Make well there might be something interesting to have and it’s good to know if you’ve brewed something wrong you’ll know because you’ll have a mundane or a thick potion now the brewing stands a very nice item because it’s very easy to automate and you can actually automate every single part of It putting a hopper into the top of it we’ll add ingredients to this top part right here putting hopper into one side just like this doesn’t actually matter which side but one side if you have blaze powder in that it’ll make it go right into the fuel slot there just like That you see it’s going into there a hopper into the other side or just any other side just like this doesn’t matter which side is which and putting water bottles in there these water bottles will fill up into the bottom like this and putting a hopper out of the bottom Just like this will convert whatever is in here into the hopper right here it’s just important to remember that if you actually want to make a system that has a hopper below here you’ll need to lock the hopper until the potion is done brewing you can use this to automate Certain things for instance having automatic water bottle or blaze powder refilling which is quite useful maybe even kind of queuing up a potion so a really nice thing you can do is you can do what i call cubing up a potion which is basically getting your potion brewing Stand right here and then getting every single ingredient for your potion kind of ready so let’s say a very complicated potion is what we want to make let’s say one of night vision we’ll grab our nether wart then we’ll grab our golden carrot then we’ll grab some redstone Dust to extend the effect and let’s say we want to make it a lingering potion so we’ll add gunpowder and we’ll add dragon’s breath what we can do is we can just go to this item hopper and put those items in order into the hopper just like this and they’ll just sit There and then one after the other will go into here after the first one is done brewing so let me put these in here like this once this would be done brewing let’s say it’s just done brewing then the next item will go in brew next item Will go in brew next item will go in brew next item will go in brew until the items are all done brewing which is nice because each stage of brewing takes exactly 20 seconds so it could take over a minute to brew some complicated potions and kind of cueing up items in a Hopper like this can be a very good way of speeding up that process or at least making it so that you don’t have to sit there and manually place in the next item time after time now these are quite simple but useful ways of automating brewing over here i’ve made a full Automated potion brewer now this is super useful especially in a late game survival world because then whatever potion you want you can just press the button and it’ll brew up for you this is actually incredibly simple to make a lot more than you might think let’s say we Want ourselves a healing potion we’ll right click on this button now what this does is this is a dropper back here and a dropper will spit the item into the hopper up here it won’t actually follow it as an item like it won’t go out like this it’ll literally just go Directly into the hopper what’s really nice about that is that what it also does is there’s a button here that goes into this repeater that goes into a redstone signal over to here so what’s happening is this redstone signal is going over here to tell this dropper to dispense another word and This dropper will dispense another word before it dispenses the item that we put in there and everything i said there basically just means that this will automatically kind of cue up the items you need so now it’s actually had just made an awkward potion here and it’s now Going to brew into a healing potion what you can do with this which is super useful as well as of course put back here a hopper connected to a whole bunch of water bottles and you can fill this up with blaze powder you can cue this up Into a very complicated potion so let’s say we want a lingering potion of harming now that’s kind of a complicated motion to make what we have to do is press the right buttons and it’ll brew it for us so a potion of harming is made by converting a different type of potion We’ll do converting the poison potion so we’ll press this now once we’ve done that we’re going to convert it so these are the convert buttons these do not connect up to dispensing another netherwart we’ll press this here so that’ll corrupt then we want to extend the duration then we Want to make this splash and then we want to make this lingering just like this now what’s going to happen in a minute here is we’re going to look in this item hopper and you’re gonna see all the items we put in there cue up into the Hopper like that and what’s awesome is they’ll just brew through there automatically if you wanna know how to make this it’s super simple literally just put down a line of iron blocks like this you would put a button on it just like that that button is going to Connect up to a dropper just like this the dropper will then go into sideways facing hoppers that are leading into the brewing stand like this and if it’s one of the items that connects up to the another word right here so it automatically comes out all we have to Do is just right behind it so where the button input is we would just put a redstone repeater and a piece of redstone dust so from here right back here we’ll put down a repeater we’ll put down the dust and go around here like this into this dropper here to dispense Right like that automatically and for me personally i like marking the modifying potion ingredients here with the warp button and the normal ingredients here at the crimson button just so i can remember the fact that these ones automatically put out the nether wart and that these ones don’t and of course If i did want to make a weakness potion i would just press this button here even though it’s not technically one that would dispense another word because i don’t need netherwart for this potion and it looks like i forgot that you can’t extend the duration of a damaged Potion instead you’d actually want to be putting in a piece of glowstone dust but either way as much as it could it is brewing the potions up here just like this for us and then we can just automatically grab them out whenever ready to have them so that’s a brief Explanation of how to make an automatic potion brewing machine just like this of course you want this on maybe the wall of your base or something and i just put down the iron block so it sort of looks like maybe a vending machine or just kind of sort of like a lab equipment Type of idea now one of my favorite things about brewing potions is the fact that once you have your potion and you’ve drunk it as long as it’s not a lingering potion or a splash potion you actually have this glass bottle back which i think is really cool because you Can reuse it recycle it sort of a really cool thing to have a little bit of recycling in minecraft so first of all you don’t actually have to craft anymore but also just really nice to have that kind of item flow like that one more amazing thing you can do with any type Of potion you want is to make them into tipped arrows that means that when the arrow hits someone it’ll apply the potion effect to them and if you want to learn how to make those i have an i card on the screen right now that will link To a video where i explain all of that another really funny effect is that healing and harming potions are reversed for undead mobs that’s right so let’s get ourselves maybe a husk something that won’t burn up in the sunlight just like this and we’re gonna get ourselves A potion of instant harming so we’ll get ourselves that ocean of instant harming of course this can be the splash potion here and we’re gonna do is we’re gonna make ourselves a little pit like this put in the husk so we have it right there it’s undead mobs so we’re gonna Throw this at their instant damage too it’s actually gonna heal it you’ll notice it’s not getting hurt at all of course if i went in here i would get quite hurt if we get a splash potion of healing though here’s the crazy part splash potions of healing like this or Of health will actually hurt this you can see here it’s hurting it there that’s because of course as an undead mob if we’re making it more alive that’s actually killing it if it’s dead make it more dead would give it more health in a way so it’s kind of a funny little Dynamic that’s really important to remember when you’re trying to attack mobs with either harming or healing so healing will kill the mobs and harming will actually help them also when you are brewing potions you can actually do certain things out of order so for instance you can use the fermented Spider eye on a potion that’s already had an increased duration or an increased effect and it’ll still convert the potion to its negative form of course i generally try and do that before i add the other modifiers but you can certainly do that afterwards if You’d like to as well and that was the ultimate minecraft 1.18 potion brewing guide if you enjoyed this video make sure to press the like button subscribe comment
