You might remember the minecraft handbooks and you might even still own some from when you were younger for those of you who don’t know what the handbooks are these four books were the original tutorials for minecraft when it was still in its early years and in this Video we’re going to be looking at their history how they led the way for all other minecraft books and at the end of the video we’ll see whether the tips in these handbooks still hold up today so let’s begin in march of 2013 it was announced that four minecraft books Would be released by a publisher called eggman which had recently made a publishing deal with mojang this marked the first time that mojang would release any official minecraft books at the time no one really knew what to expect and there wasn’t much news about the handbooks until the first one finally Came out later that year the first of the four handbooks came out in november of 2013. this handbook was simply called the minecraft essential handbook otherwise known as the beginner’s handbook the concept of the essential handbook was simple it was a guide for beginners on how to survive the first Few days how to make shelter craft tools and find resources the first few pages of the handbook were all about introducing the game to someone who’s never played it there’s even a timeline of minecraft’s history from 2009 to 2013 which lists every update the rest of the pages introduced the mobs and everything Else you’d encounter in the game the essential handbook was a simple concept but it became extremely popular and it was described as flying off the shelves by sellers there were no other handbooks until much of the following year but the sales of the first handbook was still growing when the redstone handbook was Released this book gave information on redstone circuits along with construction ideas and redstone tips from the developers unlike the essential handbook the redstone handbook was a good buy for both beginners and experienced players as it had helpful guides to secret piston doors traps and even advanced redstone elevators again This book was a huge success and it made people more excited for the other two handbooks that were coming out later that year the last two handbooks were both released in august of 2014. the first was the construction handbook which supposedly contained step-by-step instructions on how to build various buildings and contraptions including Favorite ones from the developers but in reality this handbook was more useful as inspiration for building rather than a step-by-step guide because you’d have much more success if you watched building tutorials on youtube rather than looking at pictures from the book but overall the construction handbook was still a good source of inspiration By showing some impressive builds from the community the last handbook to come out was the combat handbook which contained information about armor and weapons as well as tips on how to defeat certain mobs in the game while this handbook gave an in-depth guide on mobile weaknesses and pvp strategies it Also became the most outdated of the handbooks by far when the new combat mechanics came out after all the handbooks were released a collection bundle was also made to buy them all at the same time the success of these four handbooks encouraged mojang to create new types of minecraft books one of These was the minecraft blockopedia which released at the end of 2014 and quickly rose to the best selling charts the blockopedia wasn’t one of their handbooks so i won’t go too much into it but it was the first other minecraft book to be released after the success of The handbooks overall the original four handbooks were a wild success and sold over 6 million copies in less than a year as time went on the handbooks became outdated and only a year later in july of 2015 they were all revised to include the newest features this wasn’t A complete change to the handbooks but there were small additions like new blocks and updated tips by 2015 over 17 million copies of the handbooks had been printed in total the extreme success of the handbooks and the blockopedia paved the way for what became minecraft’s bookmarket throughout 2015-2021 lots of other minecraft guides Novels and spin-offs were released but only the original four books were still considered actual handbooks that was until september of 2021 when the all-new minecraft combat handbook was released this was the only one of the original four handbooks to be updated a second time and it was because of the new Weapons armor and pvp mechanics which had changed massively since 2015. two other new handbooks were released as well the survival and creative handbooks these new handbooks are popular but with a large selection of other minecraft books and guides to choose from they aren’t nearly as big as they were in 2014. now for the question do the original four handbooks still hold up today well yes and no the essential redstone and construction handbooks could still be relevant to new players since the basic mechanics of minecraft haven’t changed much if you’ve never played minecraft in your life and you Used the first three handbooks then you’d still be able to understand the tips and there’s even some tips that experienced players may not know about like being able to put dogs on leashes with a fishing rod but as for the combat handbook it’s the most outdated by far The tips in the book don’t make sense by today’s standards for example slimes don’t sink to the bottom of swamps anymore and minecraft combat is completely different but either way for those who own these handbooks it’s fun to look back and see how minecraft used to be thanks for watching and i’ll see You in the
