Hi my name is watchana and today we’re going to be looking at how to set up your own modded or vanilla Minecraft server using the pterodactyl panel now this tutorial does assume that you have already got the pterodactyl panel installed onto your Linux or Windows Server if you do need somebody to help Set that up for you I will leave a link to my Discord down below where we give any kind of java pterodactyl admin Minecraft any kind of back end or front-end support you may need and I can give you um a name for somebody that I Use to set up these panels that is really really good and trustworthy so we’re going to want to click admin up here and then we’re going to go straight down here on the left to nodes and this is the node that is running now if this little green heart here is not green Something’s wrong now you can see we’ve got a dedicated server how much memory it has we’ve got 128 gigabytes on here how much disk space we have Etc if it’s SSL if it’s public blah blah blah we’re going to click into this here we’re going to go to allocation And then we’re going to go to our iip address add that in I’m going to leave the Alias blank but that’s up to you and I’m going to add some more ports I’m going to add 25586 and I’m also two five five eight seven I’m going to click that submit and That’s going to open up these two ports for us to use I always use two ports in case you want to Recon in or anything like that you can always unlock and add more ports and assignees to your already set up servers at a later date that is also absolutely fine We’re then going to go to servers and over here in the top right we’re going to click create new I’m going to call it after myself and then this is the node it’s on so the nodes from in here and then you can see here the default Allocation so let’s do the one we just set up and I’m also going to put in the other one we just set up it is going to default the IP that you’re going to join with on this Minecraft server to here application feature limits now this is Going to say how many databases can you have the allocation limit so how many allocations of ports is This Server allowed and how many backups can it use now this is specifically backups within the pterodactyl panel that will sit on your hard drive not if you have a Plug-in or a mod like Feed the Beast backups that will sit within your actual container like folders this will sit outside of that if you have a lot of disk space you could even do both under Resource Management we can pin CPU threads and give a limit to how many CPU Threads This Server can use we can add a memory limit xero is unlimited which I would not recommend I’m going to give this server 15 gigabytes of RAM and then how much disk space does it use I always put this to zero because I wanted to use As much disk space as it needs with no limit now you can enable the out of memory killer that will terminate a server if it breaches the memory limits enabling the out of memory killer may cause server processes to exit unexpectedly I never generally tick this Because if it’s going to get out of memory then you know it’s generally going to crash anyway the only thing is you do want to make sure you never run out of disk space because then your servers are really you know it’s it’s going to be an emergency and I hope you Got backups The Nest is Minecraft the egg as I’m doing modded as an example here it will be Forge Minecraft now you can also do paper or bungee cord Etc but we’re doing Forge today and then the docker image now if it is Minecraft 1.18 and above Use Java 17 if it is below 1.18 use Java 8. the one we’re doing today as an example is a 1.16 server and we’re going to use Java 8. this is different if it’s on your single player or for the client I would advise using Java 17 for 1.16 and above but for the servers I always only use Java 17 for 1.18 and above here you then have your Java command your Java arguments Java arguments are going to change how much RAM is used etc etc this is the default you may want to Leave this this actually runs fine however if you do want to start playing around with these I would advise that you know what you’re doing a bit more and I will leave a link down below to a guide on GitHub that I used to use when I was new to running servers as well but again this default one is absolutely fine it’s basically just going to use 95 of your RAM maximum Etc then we’re going to go down to the service variables and this is going to say server jar file you’re going to Leave that alone unless you’re using a custom jar build typo always leave as recommended the Minecraft version I actually leave this as latest even though we’re not going to be using the latest because on the forge version we’re going to put 1.16.5 Dash 36.2.39 this bit here the 36.2.39 is specifically the forge Version I’m then going to click create server we can then exit the admin panel and you can see here that this new server is now installing this is installing Forge onto This Server now this is literally at here this is the new server here is the IP we can click into it and we can see how much of the CPU is it using except the Euler how much memory is it using how much disk space is it using the network you have a graph here you could set up as many servers as you want On a pterodactyl panel okay it’s not like multicraft where you have to pay a license per server once you get pterodactyl which is open source you can stop as many as you like on that you just install it onto your server onto a dedicated server you can see here Now this is the console and the server is now up and running we can go into files here and look at the files this is where you would drag in you know your your mods your config Etc all into here databases if you have set up a database for the server Schedules now schedules you can create a schedule and this is going to go in you know restarts it does use um Chrome job syntax so I’d recommend Googling how to use that but this is basically saying you know how often do we want it to be Um do you want to execute it only when the server is online this is how you would set up automatic restarts automated commands throughout the day now users if you have administrators or staff working for you on this server you’d click new user and this will go Through the permissions you put in their email address here and you can tick whole categories to give them access but you know can they stop and start the server can they update other users do they have fire access Etc and the list goes on this is where your pterodactyl Backups will go and you can download these here network shows you the ports allocated to This Server the primary Port is the server IP that you’re going to join the server on when you’re playing and any secondary ones are for Recon Etc startup shows the starting up Java arguments the server file and the forge version Etc and what Docker image you’re on so settings this is going to give you SFTP details these are your login details so the server address the port will always be 2022 and your username and the password for your SFTP is going To be the password that you use to log in to this panel and this is for you know filezilla Etc that you may use to add add files to your server you can then see the node and the server ID you can reinstall the whole server if you Want activity is then actually going to show you whatever anyone has done so if you have again people working for you or with you on the server you can see everything they look at and touch if I go to files and I look in the Euler file And then I want to look in the mods file folder I go and default contents I’ve looked in there I’m going to go into server.properties I’m going to change the world’s name like that if we go to activity you can see that I viewed the contents of server.properties and then I Wrote new content and you can see here that I have actually changed something in that file so it’s a pure audit log of anyone looking or touching anything this will then pop it out to a new screen you can go here to getting a dashboard admin takes you to back where We were your account settings Etc again admin servers this is the new server we have just set up you can click on this and you can see all about it from the back end of you to amend anything with it you could have got the overview the details The build configuration is where you can assign additional ports once it’s already set up change your backup limit and database limit your CPU and Max Ram Etc sometimes on my servers I have to give it more RAM or less Ram I will change that in here startup again you Can change the Java arguments in here if you do mess up these Java arguments and your server doesn’t start the default ones are here that you can always just copy and paste back into here you can save modifications to save everything in this file you then get again the server jar file Etc the forged version and the docker image if you want to change all of this databases that you may have connected to your server mounts which you probably wouldn’t use manage will reinstall the server or suspend it Etc and then you can also delete it for example I Have This e6e Server I don’t need any more I’m going to delete it delete that entire server has now been deleted from your hard drive so that was the tutorial and I really hope that was useful for you guys I couldn’t find anything like this myself when I was learning it so I am really Hoping this helps you guys out if you do have any further questions or I’ve missed anything out please do join my Discord and I’d be really happy to help you or you can leave a comment down below and I can try and help that way but joining my Discord is probably the Best way because you can show me a lot more um again my Discord server we will help you with any Java issues Java crashes server crashes setting up servers anything administrative mod packs you know anything to do with that a specifically modded Minecraft and some vanilla stuff we can help with Everything we also run a plethora of different modded servers at the time of this video we run all the mods eight Vault Hunters Pixelmon um theopolis 2 Roblox adventures and dungeons too so if you want to play on any of those there’s no white list again just join the Discord down below and There will also be a another tutorial on this showing you how to update mod packs using the pterodactyl panel so if you have a server set up onto on a mod pack and then you need to update that mod pack I will be doing a tutorial on how To do that don’t forget to subscribe and thanks for watching guys Video Information
