Minecraft SMP Scam Hits Creator Discords Again

Minecraft SMP Scam Hits Creator Discords Again

Fresh warnings this week show compromised accounts DMing players with invites to exclusive modded servers that require downloading malware laced modpacks. One VTuber says Jettsetgaming is the latest victim in an ongoing wave.

If you receive a DM from a Minecraft friend or creator suddenly inviting you to a modded SMP and asking you to download a modpack, delete it. A fresh round of these scams is circulating right now with at least one confirmed creator account compromised.

On July 14 VTuber Mallow posted a warning that Jettsetgaming‘s Discord had been hit by the “Minecraft SMP” scam. The pattern is familiar: the hacked account sends messages about a private server and directs victims to download files that contain malware. A similar alert on July 10 showed the same tactic hitting multiple people in quick succession.

How the current scam operates

  • Compromised Discord accounts DM friends or followers with hype about an invite-only modded Minecraft SMP.
  • They pressure the recipient to download a custom modpack or launcher file immediately.
  • The downloaded content installs trojans that can steal Discord tokens, browser data, Steam sessions and more.
  • Once infected, the victim's own account can be used to spread the scam further creating a chain reaction.
These scams keep working because Minecraft players are desperate to join hyped private servers. That eagerness overrides basic caution when the message appears to come from someone they already follow.

This is not a new tactic but the volume appears to have spiked again in early July 2026. Previous outbreaks have led to lost accounts, stolen credentials and in some cases wiped Discord servers. The advice remains the same: never download random files from Discord DMs even if the sender seems legitimate. Verify through another platform or voice chat before clicking anything.

If you think you have been targeted or infected, change passwords immediately, run malware scans, and revoke any active Discord sessions. Minecraft itself is not vulnerable here. The game is simply the lure.

Had 3 dm me already. Be safe.

The July 10 warning that received over 100 likes shows the community is paying attention but the scam clearly still has legs. With summer break in full swing more new or returning players are online and therefore more potential victims.
