eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant noted that nine in ten Australian children aged eight to 17 play online games. She warned that predatory adults deliberately target these social spaces, often transitioning contact from in-game chats to encrypted messaging apps where moderation is harder. Real-time voice and text features common in Minecraft servers make automated detection especially challenging.
