Crimson & Warped Fungus Farm! ▫ Minecraft Survival Guide (1.18 Tutorial Let’s Play) [S2 E61]

Hello everyone my name is pixariffs and welcome back to the minecraft survival guide i hope you’re all having a good day i’m having a great one although the legs on my crane still don’t reach the ground we have a couple other materials that i would like to gather in service

Of continuing this build and doing a couple of other things around this mine because i like the fact that warped wood stands out a whole bunch against the background of this crane in fact we need a bit more color around here and maybe a bit more saturated color because right

Now a lot of this is looking very gray and a little drab with all of the drip stone around i know i’ve kind of made my own bed here at this point i think i’ve i’ve kind of shot myself in the foot if i wanted color moving into a cave

Environment with this basically everywhere but that’s why we get to move the color in we get to add a few more accents around the place and i think the amethyst geode portal is a great example of this as are the lamp posts with all of the copper accents which have now

Started to age to the fullest we’ve got one here that’s fully oxidized basically i think there’s one here that is mostly oxidized it’s it’s still on the kind of weathered copper stage this one is still exposed copper and then the ones on the outsides are starting their aging process so i’m

Going to decide where we want to leave these honestly i think we’re going to go with a mix of different copper blocks but the lightning rods aren’t ever going to age so it kind of makes sense that we’ll keep some of these as full shiny

Copper and then wax all of them with wax from our beehive but anyway i want to focus today on acquiring the two types of nether wood we got warped wood over there we have crimson wood to work with as well and i think both are good at

Providing pops of color in an otherwise fairly natural looking color palette the warped woods kind of stand out against the other woods so we’re going to return to the nether grab a little bit of the stuff that we need to get hold of renewable warped and crimson wood and

We’ll go into a few more of the mechanics of how those work so first of all if you regularly find yourself in the nether you’re going to encounter a crimson biome or a warped biome and you will need to find the corresponding biomes to get hold of the corresponding

Woods not just for the first time you encounter them but also renewably first of all the nether trees or more accurately huge nether fungi can be found growing in the crimson warp forests naturally we’re getting crimson wood here and it will get warped wood from a warped forest like overworld

Trees they are made of a central trunk and a canopy of some other type of block although in this case the wart blocks that form the leaves of these trees do not decay when you take down the trunk they don’t actually have to be attached

To the trunk in the same way that leaves do they won’t decay they’ll just hang there in the air so it’s often a good idea to bring a hoe with you since that’s the preferred tool for taking down warped and crimson warts and i’m calling it crimson ward but actually

That’s not entirely accurate i just think of it as crimson wart because it’s attached to the crimson trees in fact it’s called netherwart block and you can get hold of blocks of this by combining nine netherwart in a three by three crafting interface but you don’t really

Need to do that because once you come through to the nether the trees themselves are basically everywhere also everywhere in these forests you will find a carpet of what’s called nylium these nether blocks are effectively near the rack equivalents of grass although there are two different kinds crimson

Nilium here in the crimson forest and warp nilium in the warped forest you’ll notice that you can’t acquire this using regular tools you will need a silk touch pickaxe in order to break this and breaking it without one of those will just yield netherrack but if you end up

Breaking it and turning it into netherrack it’s not the end of the world because if we break down some bones into bone meal and right click on netherrack adjacent to some nilium you can actually grow the nylon back over these blocks of netherrack so by bone mealing the

Netherrack not the nylium itself it is possible to regenerate blocks of nylon meaning that if you can silk touch one block of nylon and bring it with you you can convert a bunch of netherrack and that’s a supply of nylon sorted for the foreseeable future alternatively you can

Just use your silk touch pickaxe to bring as much of it home as you want to growing on the aforementioned nylon you will find a couple of different plants you’ll find crimson roots which don’t require any kind of shears or anything like that to break unlike grass from the

Overworld you can just break them with your hand or break the block that’s supporting them and they will drop as an item you can plant these on nilium and dirt variants but not on netherrax so kind of unusually you can’t really plant this on the nethers equivalent of dirt

Because netherrack is a different sort of block than that you’ll also find small crimson fungi growing and if we bone meal one of those eventually it will grow into a large crimson fungus this comes complete with the stem a couple of shroom lights tucked up in

There a whole bunch more of the nether wart blocks and weeping vines weeping vines much like regular vines from the overworld and the glowberry bearing cave vines are climable so we can jump into this and climb upwards although it has to be suspended from something so you

Need to have somewhere to step off the top of a weeping vine they can also be grown further downwards with bone meal and will grow several stages with one piece of bone meal harvesting weeping vines with a single punch is not a guarantee although we’re getting lucky

With some of these pieces they won’t always drop every single section that breaks so one way of getting around that is to use shears because shias will actually gather each piece of the weeping vine we’ll probably look at how to farm these in future because in some applications they can be pretty useful

But aside from the abundance of nether wood which can be a pretty nice building block we also get access to shroom lights which are a light level 15 block in much the same way that glowstone is but another significant difference between these trees and the trees of the

Overworld is that the blocks when broken do not drop any kind of sapling you end up just acquiring the block even if you don’t mine it with the preferred type of tool we’re using a hoe using our fists we always end up with a nether wart

Block so how do we acquire more of these mushrooms do we eventually just run out well no because if we bone meal the nilium itself remember earlier we were bonemealing the netherrack to spread the nilium if we bonemeal the nylium it will grow a bunch of crimson roots and there

Is a chance for it to grow a crimson fungus so in order to get hold of a few more crimson fungus all we need to do is apply a little bit more bone meal to the nylium and we’ll be able to bring a few of these home with us netherfungus can

Be grown in the overworld as well so all we need to do is bring some nylon back to the overworld and we can harvest it without the slightly more dangerous environment here in the nether as you’re exploring your crimson forest you may occasionally encounter a fungus of another kind and the warped fungus

Can be found here in the crimson forest in the same way crimson fungus can be found occasionally in warped forests in fact you may sometimes end up relying on the warped fungus being here since hoglands don’t like it very much and will run away from it if it is placed in

One of these biomes nearby them but we’re going to grab this one and we’re going to pill her up here and run away because i want to get away from the hoglands and demonstrate something about warped fungus while the warped fungus can be planted on crimson nylon much

Like some of the other roots and stuff here it can be planted on dirt type blocks netherrack is not included in that it cannot be grown on crimson nileum in fact as i right click on this with my shield in my hand kind of flailing wildly to demonstrate that i am

Right clicking it won’t let me use meal on it because it’s not on the corresponding type of nylium warped fungus needs to be grown on warped nylium in much the same way as crimson fungus needs to be grown on crimson nylon which means if we want to grow a

Few more warped trees we’ll need to take a trip to the warped forest our local warped forest in fact the one that i got all of the warped wood that i used in that crane build is over here by the bastion remember these are the bottoms

Where we can find endermen we can find tall warped trees all around us we can find a different type of wart block which unlike the nether wart block is warped wart and is not craftable in any way you can’t transform near the wall blocks into this stuff these are only

Acquirable through farming them from warped trees these also provide warped stem blocks and shroom lights kind of similar to the way the crimson trees work and you’ll notice at the base of these we have some crimson roots and some crimson fungus growing but once again we cannot bone meal this in order

To grow it it’s just not going to happen instead if we bone meal of the nilum around here the warped nilium will find these warped roots growing and occasionally nether sprouts which are kind of a category all of their own really they are the inert grass of the

Nether they don’t really have much of a purpose and unlike the warped roots these must be sheared in order to acquire them they’ll appear in your inventory as near the sprouts while these appear as warped and crimson roots and there’s not really a great deal else

We can do with them we can use them for a little bit of harmless decoration here and there they can also be composted as can pretty much all of the foliage from the nether with the exception of the wood itself but what we are here for is

The nylon so we’re gonna grab a few more blocks of this although we don’t need to bring too much of it back with us because i’ve got tons of netherrack already from digging out these tunnels so what i think i’m going to do is use the nylon that i brought with me to

Convert some of the netherrack i’ve already gathered into more nilium saving having to tear up this biome when it’s one of the only ones we’ve found so far one other thing you’ll notice while you’re here is that the vines in these biomes do not grow downwards from the

Trees in the same way that weeping vines do instead twisting vines grow from the nylon carpet around here and they grow upwards if we bone meal this we can actually grow it even taller and it’s effectively become a ladder of sorts we can climb these in much the same way as

We could something like scaffolding although there is of course a little bit less of a guarantee that you’ll be caught if you fall off of this like the weeping vines we can break these we will not get every single block as we saw we just got three from that massive tall

Tower but it is also possible to break your fall with weeping vines although it’s a much more precise thing you have to land dead center in the center of the vine and yeah sometimes you just don’t place it in time gotta say my uh my mlg

Vine game needs a little bit of work but there we go we managed to land one there so instead of getting twisting vines from growing the trees we actually get them from bone mealing the nylon itself and you’ll find them here and they’re growing on blocks other than nylon they

Can be placed on blocks other than nilium in this case but if we want to farm more of them we get them from bonemealing nilium either here in the overworld or even in the end if you want to go there so as far as near the

Foliage goes i think we’ve got a decent starter pack so let’s head on back to the overworld and let’s see if we can farm some of these in the comfort of our drip stone cave so now we’re back in the drip stone cave i figured we could set

Up an area somewhere down here where we could farm a little bit of the warped and crimson wood and we’ll need quite a tall area to set these up because crimson and warp trees can grow to pretty enormous heights luckily for us we’re in a massive cavern and while we

Could grow these out on the surface i think it’s kind of novel that we can grow these inside of a cave system like this we also have a couple of pieces of nylon here already and a good chunk of netherrack so i’m gonna grab some of that we’ll probably stash a few extra

Things in here the cooked pork chops that we’ve been getting from the hoglands here and there and we’ll put these to work farming up a little bit more warped nylon because i didn’t bring as much of that with me i’m going to do the tree farming part manually for now

Because farming trees with any kind of automated process usually takes a lot of tnt and right now i haven’t really got to the point where i’ve got enough sand to mass produce tnt on a regular basis but we’re probably going to find a way of automating the process of acquiring

The crimson roots crimson fungi warped roots and a warped fungi because bone mailing and collecting this stuff manually while it is one approach we can take feels like something we could automate to make the task a little simpler it’s also something that i feel would fit in quite well with the level

Of industry that we have going on in this cave and so i feel like we’re gonna take up some of this nilium and we’re gonna build a shifting floor here that’s going to grow all of the stuff with bone meal and then break it instantly by

Moving the floor from side to side very quickly we’re gonna need a decent amount of redstone components for this so back here at the base i’m preparing the materials for a bunch of pistons i think 48 will probably do in addition to that we’ll need some redstone dust some

Redstone repeaters which are always great to craft in larger quantities we’ll probably bring a couple of hoppers with us as well and we will need two dispensers i’m also going to bring over a bunch of the bones we’ve been farming up at our mob farm but to do that i’m

Going to condense them all down into bone blocks by first breaking them down into bone meal which is going to take a minute here and then crafting them all into bone blocks in the three by three of our crafting table one stack of bone blocks will fill up the entirety of a

Dispenser when broken back down into bone meal because it’s nine stacks of bone meal so it makes a lot of sense to bring these together in stacks of 64 that way you’ll end up with enough to fill a dispenser every time you make a contraption like this all of that’s

Going to pack down into a shulker box and will return to the cave so we’re going to build our first farm over here we’re going to make this one the crimson nilium farm and there’s a good reason for that which i’ll explain a little bit later the first thing we’re

Going to do is put a dispenser basically face up in the floor that’s what’s going to dispense the bone meal to a floor of nylon we’re going to be building around it so before we do anything else we should break down all of those bone blocks back into bone meal fill up the

Dispenser as you can see completely stacked full of bone meal and naturally if we wanted to we could feed some hoppers into this to make sure that we could supply it with bone meal for the foreseeable future but in this case we are not going to worry about that right

Now we might add that in a little later for the moment we’re going to be building a 6×5 area of nylon around the top of this the main reason being that if we use the dispenser once it’s going to bone meal a block of nylon from below

Which will still grow the crimson roots and fungus on top of here in fact the largest area that a single bone meal can have an effect on nilium is a 5×5 area much like this one but of course then the farm is going to be shifted over one

Block so we’re actually going to add another row of nylon right here making sure that each time the bone meal is used it’s going to affect the largest possible area along this row over here we’re going to place pistons flat against the face of the nearest block of

Nilium since this is the side that’s going to be pushed over first we’ll lay another row of pistons with one block of space between them and the nylon just to make sure that the nylon can be pushed over without displacing the pistons and then i’m going to craft some stone into

Stone brick and arrange that on top of the pistons on both sides we’ll connect that around here in the center and ideally we want to make sure that there are solid blocks on this side underneath the farm and on this side underneath the farm just to make sure that none of the

Crimson roots and fungus and stuff falls down into this gap we’ll also close it off at the back here so they don’t just pop out the sides as far as the collection mechanism for this farm we are going to be collecting it manually because it’s simple enough for the

Player to just run around on here as the farm is working to activate the farm we’ll need a couple of observers so it’s back to the nether for me to get some quartz and to get this working we’re going to use an observer clock which is one of the faster redstone clocks that

You can make all you need to do is place an observer facing into another observer and both ends will flash with redstone power they sort of create a loop between the two because each one is detecting when the other one gets an update and it gets an update every time it decides

That it’s powered so it just kind of goes back and forth constantly most notably alternating then with the slime that we got the other day we’re going to make at least one sticky piston we’re going to place this piston facing downwards two blocks up on this back

Wall and we’re going to place the two observers facing into each other right here these two observers are going to be broadcasting redstone signals to the pistons on either side of this and that’s what’s going to cause them to push although right now you’ll notice that they’re not pushing alternately one

Side is kind of dominating the other one and if we pull the observer out of the circuit using the sticky piston the whole thing gets a little quieter and it’s about to get really noisy again because if we reactivate this you’ll notice that’s now moving twice as fast something about the piston pushing

The observer into place facing the other observer actually doubles the speed of the clock or roughly doubles it i think but in order to sync up these pistons so they fire alternately we do need to make sure that one side has a little bit more delay which is why over here we’re going

To add a redstone repeater now when we switch the farm on the floor alternates shifting side to side and it still makes a heck of a lot of noise but every time it shifts if there are crimson roots or crimson fungus on top of here it’s going to

Break them allowing us to pick them up as items the last thing we need to do is dig on underneath here to find that dispenser again and it’s right there so of course we can place a block in front of that which will still allow it to receive redstone power we’re gonna make

Sure each block down here is stone brick as well so that we place redstone dust on this and we’ll notice it if we start digging around and we’ll have the redstone dust simply connect up to the line that’s coming out of this redstone clock and now when we activate it

Instant chaos in the few seconds i was running the farm just then we acquired a whole bunch of crimson roots and crimson fungus let me just throw all of this stuff in a shulker box for a second we’ll get my inventory a little bit more empty and we’ll start this farm up one

More time and look how quickly the stack of items accumulates in my hot bar and watch when i open my inventory how many we have after running around for this very very brief time yep we’ve got a whole bunch of crimson roots and we’ve got almost a stack well

We’ve got half a stack there of crimson fungus there’s a bunch more laying around on the ground this stuff is all going to be popped up as the blocks end up being pushed over it there’s even some falling out of the front as well yeah in total that was five stacks of

Crimson roots almost a stack of crimson fungus and a handful of warped fungus as well and so that is why i have brought a couple of hoppers because we need to turn this whole thing into a composter pretty quickly we’ll craft some slabs out of these dark oak planks we’ll turn

Those into two composters and we’re gonna set up a chest here on one side of the farm with hoppers running into it from the side like so we’ll put our two composters on top of that we’ll run a couple more hoppers into the composters and have a double chest over the top of

It and now from here any of the crimson roots that we put into here are just going to be composted because frankly i don’t have a better use for them right now we could use them for aesthetic things but we get way more of them from

The farm than we do with the crimson fungus and the fungus is really what we’re after here naturally this means all of those crimson roots are going to be broken down into bone meal and it almost makes this farm self-sustaining because this bone meal can simply be fed

Back via hopper line into the dispenser in the center the time being i might just do that manually because it’s easy enough to open up the dispenser just by breaking a hole in the floor of the farm and as you can see it’s only used up a

Small amount of each of these stacks at a time we’ve got 52 in this bottom corner but 5758 basically everywhere else now that the composters are done composting all of those crimson roots we have 31 bone meal which if i spread them evenly throughout the rest of these that

Almost makes up the deficit there’s only two or three missing from each of these stacks now and most importantly we have over a stack of crimson fungus which would look kind of cool if we could plant it anywhere else in this cave but unfortunately it can only really be

Planted on dirt type blocks like the crimson nilium there’s a little patch of dirt over here by this drip stone pillar and as you can see we can place the crimson fungus on the dirt blocks as well although once again it needs to be on crimson nilium in order to grow into

A huge fungus which was part of the point of this exercise so i’m just going to propagate a little more nilium by grabbing it from the edge of this breaking that and placing a little bit more netherax so we can have a decent growing platform for our crimson fungus

And then over here where there’s a little bit more space around it we’re gonna plant a three by three i think of our crimson nilium and we’ll just grow the crimson fungus dead center on these our first tree ended up a little bit small but that’s totally fine we can

Take down all of the netherwart blocks and grow another one we can even grow these in a three by three of the crimson fungus if we want to because these trees are perfectly fine being grown next to each other although you potentially miss out on some of the netherwart blocks

Growing side by side they’ll end up growing through each other and you won’t get as many of them which only really matters because the nether wart blocks are also compostable and they are a pretty effective compost too which makes the process of growing these warped and crimson trees pretty much renewable as

You can see occasionally the crimson trees get a little bit too big for their boots and will grow to more than average height at which point it’s useful to have maybe an ender pearl a couple of fireworks or some scaffolding in the nearby area or perhaps even we can make

Use of some of these ladders that we built in the previous episode because as with any tall trees they are much easier to take down from the top down than they are from the ground up let’s throw all of these nether wart blocks in the composter and one other thing to keep in

Mind here is that whenever we grow one of these trees there is a chance that it’s going to turn the nilium back into netherax so it’s helpful to have a couple more bone meal on hand just so that we can regrow the nylon onto the netherrack nearby alternatively as

You’re growing your crimson fungi like so it’s usually a good idea to knock out the bottom most block of each of these so that it has the least amount of time to turn the nylon below into netherrack the process is sometimes instantaneous but it can save you the one piece of

Bone meal and the extra time it would take converting that netherrack back into nilium so having turned that 3×3 of crimson fungus into a pretty solid mess of crimson trees we can take the whole thing down for a bunch more renewable bone meal a few extra stream lights and

A bunch of crimson wood and gosh that took a while to take down and that was a lot of work and nether wart blocks are not the fastest thing to farm at least not right now we might be able to work on that a little bit later

In the series for now though we have still basically a stack of crimson fungus we’ve got a handful of nether wart blocks all churning down into bone meal to continue powering this farm we can do exactly the same for warp nilum if we want to get hold of more warped

Fungus in the meantime we are still getting it from this farm just in slightly reduced numbers seeing as the crimson fungus gets priority for growing on crimson nilium now we get to do a whole bunch more with crimson wood and crimson stem which much like the overworld woods can be turned into a

Six-sided bark block which is called hyphae instead of just wood it can also be stripped it can be turned into planks and then the planks can still be made into all of the stuff you’d expect to make out of planks including things like fences and fence gates there’s also a

Crimson door which looks pretty cool people don’t tend to use these a whole lot but i don’t know why i kind of like them and i think where i want to use crimson wood is in some of the more industrial looking builds around here i think it’s going to pair quite well with

All of that polished deep slate so i think we’re going to scaffold up there and get a bit more of this crane built before we wrap up today’s episode but wait a second i’ve just remembered something it actually doesn’t matter what the majority of the farm around

Here is made out of when you bone meal it because the bone meal actually just takes its cues from the surface block that it’s bone mealing in the first place so if we bone meal this this is something i haven’t done for a while honestly so i’d kind of forgotten this

Was a thing even though it is surrounded by crimson nilium this is going to grow all of the warped foliage it can grow on crimson nylon in fact we could turn the rest of this platform aside from these two central blocks into grass and it would work just as well naturally we

Need to shear some of the nether sprouts so we’re only going to get a couple of those just by shearing them manually at the end of these processes but in future we can do a farm that will help us gather a lot more of those and is a

Little bit more manual kind of involves the player afk but i’ve built them before and they’re pretty successful in the meantime though we can just have one square of the warp nilium in here and the farm will produce equal parts warped and crimson foliage i’ll be honest until that moment i’d completely

Forgotten that that was a thing but it is a thing and as you can see we have an equal number of warped and crimson fungus coincidentally yeah that honestly slipped my mind and i’m sorry for not mentioning that sooner but hopefully you folks get the idea and now that we’ve

Gotten this far into the episode you’ll have watched to the point where you understand how this farm works and you’ll be able to gather both types of foliage regardless of the approach you take anyway done with that farm now back to the crane yeah i think the crimson

Wood actually blends into the crane really well i need to do a little bit more detail work around here i’m probably going to do a couple of revisions on some of the design elements but i think it’s all looking pretty good so far and we had a very very brief

Thunderstorm here that has just cleared up out of nowhere so that’s actually pretty funny i thought i was going to have a dramatic outro but then it turned out that no the weather’s just going to clear up well that’s fine that’s where we’re going to leave it for this episode

Of the minecraft survival guide i’ve been doing a little bit more aesthetic work around there trying to make this area look a bit more industrial but i’ve still got a couple of things to figure out in that regard so that’s where we’ll leave it for today hope you’ve enjoyed
