After the initial tease earlier this summer the release date for native Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2 is finally here: October 27. The announcement confirms what many expected. The new hardware gets a proper optimized build instead of a straight port.
Vibrant Visuals becomes the baseline
On Switch 2 Minecraft will ship with Vibrant Visuals enabled by default. That means better lighting shadow effects and overall visual fidelity whenever the hardware can handle it. The feature was shown off before but now it is the standard experience rather than an optional toggle.
The Super Mario Mash Up pack is also getting refreshed to take advantage of the new visuals. If you already own it the update should roll out with the new version. Details on exact changes remain light but expect the pack to look noticeably sharper.
Upgrade path for current owners
Anyone who bought Minecraft on the original Switch will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version digitally. Exact pricing and process were not spelled out in the announcement but the precedent from other cross gen titles suggests it will not be a full price repurchase.
