Mojang Drops New Capes For Dungeons II With Main Game Crossovers

Five new capes announced as the September 29 launch approaches, including two that work in Java and Bedrock. Gamescom hands-on also showed deeper crafting, a hub town, and the brutal Copper Monstrosity boss.

Minecraft Dungeons II launches in a month and Mojang is not being subtle about it. On the heels of the Gamescom 2026 event they have revealed five new capes and given hands-on details that go beyond the earlier Xbox showcase. Two of those capes are usable in mainline Minecraft, which is the part that will actually move the needle for most players.

The Five New Capes and How to Get Them

  • Hero Cape: Play Minecraft Dungeons then log into Dungeons II before December 31 2026. Works in both Java and Bedrock.
  • Twisted Cape: Pre-order the standard edition of Dungeons II. Also crosses over to main Minecraft.
  • Soul Cape: Part of the Deluxe Edition purchase.
  • Corrupted Creeper Cape: Promotional reward available at Gamescom booth or via online events. Creeper face with glowing blue eyes.
  • Special Cape: Details still unknown.

The crossover angle is smart. Requiring a quick login to the original Minecraft Dungeons for the Hero Cape gets lapsed players back in the ecosystem. Pre-ordering for the Twisted Cape is the more obvious monetization play but at least it delivers something visible in the main game people actually play every day.

This is textbook pre-launch marketing. Drive engagement with the first game, push pre-orders and deluxe editions, hand out limited cosmetics at Gamescom to manufacture FOMO. The real test is whether the new crafting smiths and boss fights make the sequel worth the $30 instead of just another loot grinder.

What Gamescom Actually Showed

The Xbox Wire hands-on went hands-on in the hub town Brave Haven and highlighted two smiths: the familiar Blacksmith for gear upgrades and the new Enchantsmith for build experimentation. Players got a minecart fast travel system, expanded inventory tools, and a boss fight against the Copper Monstrosity. That boss uses lightning attacks, arena dashes, and looks like it punishes passive play.

The demo also touched on quality of life improvements aimed at both casual couch co-op groups and hardcore ARPG fans. Minecraft Dungeons II lands on Game Pass at launch, so the capes and promo push make sense as customer acquisition. Whether the new systems fix the repetitive loop of the first game remains to be seen when it drops September 29.
