Mojang dropped a chunky Bedrock update loaded with bug fixes and the first playable slice of the Third Drop 2026. Players can now explore abandoned camps and the new rust toned forest packed with poplar trees and weird mushrooms.
While most players were still digesting the last drop, Mojang rolled out Bedrock Edition 26.40 on August 4 and made sure the experimental toggle now includes the opening batch of Third Drop content. The headline addition is the Dappled Forest, a cold biome variant featuring three colors of poplar trees, shelf mushrooms growing on logs, and red shrubs dotting the ground.

- Abandoned camps generate in 19 different biomes complete with chests, barrels, explorer maps to structures, and straw beds
- Poplar trees in red orange and yellow variants with matching logs, wood, stripped versions, and saplings
- Cushions in all 16 wool colors that let you sit without claiming a bed

The non experimental side of 26.40 cleans up a bunch of annoyances. Boats now break with fewer hits, minecarts behave again, arrow damage scales properly, and a pile of crash and UI bugs got swept away. Accessibility options improved with better narration and a new screen distortion slider. Nothing earth shattering but the kind of maintenance that keeps servers stable.
The Third Drop itself still lacks an official name but early looks point toward exploration, adventure, and better multiplayer hooks. The dappled forest and its passive mobs fit that brief. If you enable the experimental toggle you can start building with the new blocks and scouting for camps today.

Server owners running Bedrock Dedicated Servers should update promptly. The patch list includes stability fixes that matter when dozens of players are online. For everyone else it is a low risk chance to play with the next biome before it lands for real.
