Minecraft’s forgotten Custom Dimensions feature…

Move hey so you joined a Minecraft server and after about two minutes of failing at the lobby parkour and getting bored of survival you decide it’s time to try out some different game modes this kind of sucks it just completely a musician the flow of the game there’s no

Tangible Link Between Worlds of play and the entire experience feels really disconnected there’s a couple different ways that people have thought of to swap between or you know try different game modes but they’re all just so clunky and don’t really feel immersive I propose a solution today I would like to introduce

You a couple data packs that I’ve been working on that makes a vanilla experience with you and your friends just add a little bit more engaging and adds a couple game modes immersive Skyblock and immersive creative There’s a criminally underutilized feature in Minecraft data pack system which allows you to add New Dimensions to a vanilla world and with a couple extra modifications you can make a really really smooth immersive completely free server for you and your friends to play on it’s just it’s just

So much better so this here is a portal 2 Skyblock it uses fully oxidized copper for the frame and basically the inventory that we have here as well as the hunger and any other properties instantly get swapped over thermometer across this threshold so I can pick up

This lava bucket and I see a start of my let’s play you know all that good stuff nice and then when I decide I want to head back to the Overworld what do I do walk on through I can build a creative portal here and then if I fly over to

Castle I think is here I create another portal and these portals are the same distance in the Overworld and in Creative this means that any Redstone tests or block parts that you use will immediately be placed in the relevant place in the Overworld and you can just hop on through it’s

Smooth it’s clean it’s just great it’s actually really reliable as well you can sit right on the edge Teeter back and forth and it just works under the hood all these data packs do is add a new dimension and World Generation for SkyBlock and creative meaning that if the water pack

Ever breaks for some reason or I don’t update it all you need to do is just keep playing your world stays the same and worst case the portals disappear until immersive portals updates to the current version and then it’ll work again now let’s go over some of the features of Skylock

Immersive Skyblock includes a regular void generating world that goes on forever the classic starter Island was an oak tree lava and water a nice little baby nether island with every single block you need for pretty much a full nether experience and of course a fully featured end system so you can bite that

Dragon but it is Skyblock so the only thing that generates are the pillars and the exit portal yeah good luck with that one and cities generate with only ever a ship so you can obtain that elytra and shulker boxes but it’s a big big challenge you’ll probably need to get

Some ice highways going or something and few technical players out there Monument bounding boxes slime chunks swamp huts and Nether fortresses all generates just make sure you use the SkyBlock tag before locating a structure if you want to challenge Yourself by starting off in Sky Block and then building a drowned

Farm in order to get the copper to make your way back to the Overworld all you need to do is build what I call a ritual portal and for this all you need to do is an anesite frame lava on the inside and then I know this is Blasphemous but

You have to throw a block of diamond in this one is always placed over the island and you can just hop on in and you can’t get through again until you make a drowned Farm to get the copper enough to build the portal back to the Overworld at least portals can be

Any shapes you can have a nice square like so and Skyblock portals can be lit from either side all interactions between dimensions are disabled in order to prevent exploits so you can’t just throw items across stuff like that unfortunately for now I’m limited by the technology of my time so items will just

Disappear if you throw them through the portal as well as entities so if you have a favorite Pig maybe don’t let him get too close to the portal otherwise he will immediately disappear there is an update that’s coming to the API of immersive portals which can prevent this so that won’t be

For long and there will be constant improvements and little tidbits as this mod pack progresses I am still kind of a little new to developing stuff so you got to forgive me a bit here now it took a lot of thought to make sure that the creative portal wouldn’t cause any

Movement exploits or any block placing or you know mining exploits but I think I’ve landed on a pretty balanced method of getting to and from creative creative portals can only be built from survival and require a gold frame of any size of course and another starter line this makes them about equivalent in

Progression to a beacon or something of the sort so you would build one of these either at your base or whenever you have a huge build project going on so that you can you know hop over to creative and quickly you know test some stuff build some stuff it’s it’s a it’s a

Smooth way of transitioning but you don’t want people just building portals willy-nilly so they can like get out of a mine or something now at first glance it seems really broken that you can just go into creative and then fly elsewhere but the thing is once you’ve got another

Star you can probably get an elytra and flying in Creative is just as fast as flying in survival with an elytra so there’s not really any movement gained from building these portals on top of that they’re actually really difficult to build being constructed with another star so they’re not the sort of thing

That you just built as a throwaway to get to a location faster and once again there is no block placement or anything through the portals you can’t throw anything through you can’t you know place a diamond block on the other side to give yourself stuff when you’re in

Creative it just it doesn’t work now I know what you’re saying yes this is slightly more inconvenient than the regular slash commands but the thing about that is you actually get engaged in the game it’s not just a Mindless thing where you type in a command it

Feels real you can build the portal and the only thing that removes you from the game is the loading screen when the portal first renders it’s smooth come on get out of that water you’re scared this bloke I swear now where it was just like in regular vanilla Minecraft your respawn point is

Wherever you set it in any Dimension so if I die to this zombie over here I want to respawn next to this bed this means that you can choose where in any Dimension that you spawn and personally I’m gonna go with creative in a place

Next to my base all right now the real question how difficult is it to set up and that’s the best bit I mean it’s kind of evolved but like yeah I’d do like a five out of ten it’s not to work now for installation I highly recommend my custom-made Multiverse super vanilla mod

Pack for the best experience it’s been thoroughly tested and contains about as many performance enhancing mods as you can cram into immersive portals without it breaking anything and it also has some nice little quality Life mods like little tweaks and a good collection of shaders but all you do technically need

To have for this to work is immersive portals and dimensional inventories if you don’t know how to install a mod pack that’s sort of outside of the scope of this video there’s plenty of tutorials out there but honestly modern’s documentation here is pretty damn good

Um yeah multi MC or prism is probably my favorite launcher but whatever your preferences once you have that mod pack or those two mods installed just head over to my GitHub repository here the link will be in the description head over to releases snag the source code

ZIP file and then head over to your Minecraft installation I’m going to create a completely fresh World here just for demo purposes ah beautiful we love to see it so first things first you are going to want to select the world that you want to install this on hit

Edit and make a backup I cannot State how important this is no matter what no matter what you’re doing in Minecraft make frequent backups you never want to lose a world once the backup’s complete head on back into the edit page and open that world folder next head on down to

Downloads open up that zip file and drag over data packs and dimensional inventories they’ll ask you if you want to replace this dimensional pools file do that you haven’t configured it yet next time you boot up that world it’ll give you this warning which says it’s using experimental settings which

That’s true this is an experimental data pack this isn’t the official Moen release of Skyblock as much as this data pack doesn’t touch your vanilla World gen and shouldn’t create any problems you never ever know and backups don’t hurt and then after a tiny bit of world loading lag start to start your

Immersive playthrough and just like that you can get yourself quarterly wait a second if you hit open to LAN with the Modpack enabled it starts hosting a server and you can give this link to your friends toddy awesome goodies included if you’re not a big fan

Of modded and you just want the SkyBlock experience but want it separated from your world we got you covered as well this data pack is what I like to call vanilla first which means that first of all it runs on a vanilla installation you won’t get lots of the rich features

You’ll have inventory swapping and the portals won’t work between Dimensions with that being said in order to install it on a vanilla world all you need to do is head over to that GitHub release simply snag creative and immersive zip files these are the direct data packs

And then drag these directly into data packs folder when you build up that Minecraft world hey leave that warning again create the backup and you have an installation which has the worlds but you can’t really get them I like it you can still get to Skyblock with the following

Command which will be in the video description but there’s no inventory swapping no game mode swapping and it’s just not really immersive it’s still there but I mean I don’t know it’s it’s just it’s just vanilla I would love to be able to implement inventory swapping through data packs and portals through data

Packs but unfortunately I’m a bit limited by the technology of my time and with moyang’s current implementation of custom dimensions and custom worlds there’s not really a feasible way to do it without some really really hacky things and I I want to keep this reliable I want to keep this simple

Um and so I’m just going to have to recommend using that mod pack it’s it’s so much better anyway I mean look at these Graphics it’s not it I’m gonna give a special thanks to quote for immersive portals and thumbelists for dimensional inventories he actually helped me with a little bug report which

Wouldn’t have been this whole thing wouldn’t be impossible without it and most of all thank you so much to Blue Psycho Ranger for this amazing Skyblock generator which I adapted for making it its custom Dimension um not that good occurred and I would not have been able to do it without his

And potentially there’s a huge opportunity for more you could totally add a mini game you could totally add a bunch of other things and having it seamlessly integrated into your Minecraft world is just such a nice way to do it I don’t know why it’s just so

Satisfying to me being able to walk between them on top of that it means you don’t have to manage any custom portals it’s all in built your players and your friends just make the world itself it’s very organic I really like it very soon I’m going to be continuing a let’s play
