This is the origin story of the Minecraft wandering trader. Imagine you are a wandering trader. You were once a despised nitwit in the village. Nitwits can’t do much in Minecraft. Villagers make fun of you and tease you. The nitwits couldn’t make anything of value for The village so they are alienated. It’s not your fault you were born a nitwit, right? The nitwits got bullied. You decide to stand up for yourself. You’ve had enough, you don’t want to be the outcasts of villager society anymore. There has recently been drama in the village of a group Of villagers who call themselves the illagers. They were expelled from the village due to working on their nefarious magical experiments. Some known as witches left too. The villagers wanted to live simple lives and not deal with magic. You, the nitwit, realize that this could Finally be your chance to create a better future for yourself. You decide to do something drastic. You decide that you will live the life of a nomad, an adventurer. You pack your bags. You sneak out of the village at night. Luckily, nobody noticed you leaving. You’re all alone now, By yourself. You’re not sure what to do now. The illagers ask you to join their clan but you don’t want to join those violent, cult-like illagers. You quickly run away without hesitation. You’re wondering what you will want to trade, you don’t really have any crafting or smithing skills. Anyways, you meet with a witch in the swamp. Both the wandering trader and witch live in isolation and have knowledge of potions, meaning that they probably worked together temporarily. In the witch huts, the nitwit collected slimeballs that he might be able to trade later. You, A wandering trader, learn all kinds of magic from the witch. You learn about how to make potions. You also get your hands on glowstone, another item you could trade with for later. (The witch is kind Of like the sensei of this story.) You eventually leave the witch’s hut and thank her for the help. You figure out what you want to trade, you decide that you will trade exotic materials from far and wide. Since you were a nitwit, you had no skills to craft anything, the best you Could do is collect raw goods that are “somewhat” rare. You need a disguise though. You don’t want to be known as a nitwit anymore. You’re a lone wanderer, a wandering trader. You dye a robe blue and decorate your llamas with blue. You don’t want to be green anymore- a color associated with Nitwits. You can still see the wandering traders’ green shirt if you look closely. You had gone everywhere to collect exotic things to trade with. You somehow manage to collect blocks like coral blocks and sea pickles. You try to sell your goods. Fingers crossed, Business goes well… But business is not booming, who would want to buy an oak sapling for five emeralds?! You decide to test your luck by trading with the new people- the player. You humbly offer your trades to the player. “…” He thanks you for the two leads. After leaving the village to pursue A better life, learning from the witch, wearing a new outfit, traveling far and wide for months, you were just murdered to obtain… two leads. All of that for two leads… Let’s go into further analysis of the unknown origin story of the wandering trader in Minecraft. Let’s come up with a Minecraft theory. The first question is: why do they wear a blue hoodie that covers their face? It seems like the wandering trader is trying to hide something from us. First, we need to clarify who the wandering traders are. Are they villagers, illagers, Or maybe even an entirely different species or something? We can quickly rule out the idea that wandering traders are illagers. Illagers will attack wandering traders without hesitation- just like how they would attack a normal villager. It’s also unlikely that the wandering traders Are working together with the illagers. The wandering traders seem to not have any connection with the illagers. The wandering trader is probably not a different species since it looks so similar to the villager. The wandering trader has green eyes, a definitive trait of a villager. Illagers don’t have green eyes. If the wandering trader is in fact a villager, why did they desert the villagers to live by themselves? Leaving the village opens the wandering traders to being vulnerable to attacks. There are no iron golems to protect them, meaning that they have To fend for themselves against the zombies of the night. My theory is that the wandering trader made a conscious choice to live alone by himself. There is one clue in Minecraft that reveals a lot About the wandering trader- and it is the fountain of my theory. If we look at the wandering trader’s texture file, we can see what is behind the blue robes. He wears a green shirt. It’s a tiny detail- But it’s very important later. You can also see his green shirt here if you look carefully. His green shirt is barely visible because of the blue robe covering it. If our assumption is correct that wandering traders are villagers, I believe then that the wandering traders are nitwits. Does the green shirt really mean that the wandering trader is a nitwit? Is it really an important detail? Well, if you look at all Minecraft villager variations of the nitwits, the defining feature of nitwits is their green shirt. I get that this theory is only supported By the fact that they wear green shirts, but the origin story of the wandering trader really makes sense with this Minecraft nitwit theory as the foundation. With that out of the way, let’s continue. The nitwits are like the neglected waifs of the village. They can’t trade, they have no Skills, they are basically the homeless people of a village, the neglected. If we could understand villager talk, I bet villagers make rude jokes about the nitwits. They were probably bullied too. It’s unfair to the poor nitwits, they have always been nitwits since birth. If mobs had emotions, Nitwits would probably be depressed, lonely, and unfulfilled. What if the nitwits could do more with lives- and find their calling or something. Well luckily for them, there’s a golden opportunity. And in our short little story at the beginning of the video- you, the Soon-to-be wandering trader, answered the call. So when did some of the nitwits leave the village? There was most likely a point when the illagers and witch broke off from the village to do their own thing. This was probably due to the fact that they worked on nefarious experiments that were Banned in the village. The illagers and witches experimented with magic and potions. The illagers and witches were probably once villagers; and when they left, they became what they look like today. The nitwits of the villages saw these other villagers leave to go their own separate ways. What if they could do the same? A few nitwits feel that this is their calling- a chance to prove themselves. Some nitwits left to live alone. The trades that the wandering traders have gives us clues on what they did. They traveled through many biomes and swam in the oceans to obtain Coral. One thing to notice about their trades is that they trade only raw materials and items. These items don’t require any skills to make or obtain. Nitwits are villagers with no skills or talents so these trades make sense. Wandering traders only trade raw materials, They don’t have the skills to craft anything. We can assume the wandering traders went all around the world to collect items he hoped would sell. By the way, somewhere along his journeys, the wandering trader brought two llamas with him to carry items. In my opinion, the two Llamas that the wandering trader brings with him aren’t too important in the story. The llamas the wandering traders bring don’t carry a chest so they are basically useless. Maybe the wandering trader keeps llamas around to give himself company. People often go insane when living By themselves for too long. Can you relate? There are still some more mysterious characteristics about the wandering trader. For one, they can turn themselves invisible when in danger. And two, why do they wear a blue robe? Is it because they are cold or something? Here Is my theory for both of these questions. When the nitwits left the village, they probably learned a lot from the witches. Both mobs are remarkably similar, they both are villager variants that live by themselves. They both can do some level of magic. The wandering traders probably learned Their magical abilities from the witch. This could also be where the glowstone trade comes from. This is why they wear a blue robe. No villagers would take the nitwit seriously when they saw his green shirt, they knew he was a nitwit. The wandering traders hid their green shirts with a Blue robe to hide their true identity. They don’t want people to know their original identity. At this point in time, they didn’t feel like part of a village anymore, they were independent nomads. But let’s be honest though, their trades are pretty trash. Who in their right mind would buy An oak sapling for five emeralds?! I guess that’s why nitwits never could trade items- they never understood how to give good trades. If you have ever wondered why wandering villager’s trades are so bad, now you know. The wandering traders wander the world, looking for players or villagers to Trade with. But be honest, when was the last time you traded with these guys? The wandering traders didn’t end up being too successful after all, but they’re doing the best they can. If you want a more happy ending, maybe the wandering traders ended up very wealthy from trading with the Villagers. It’s hard to say whether the wandering trader has been successful or not. Perhaps we treat the wandering traders too harshly. #WanderingTraderLivesMatter or something- but now that you know the wandering traders’ backstory, please think twice before killing them for those Two leads. Even though they have pretty useless trades, at least give them some pity; and don’t just kill them to get two leads.
